Hi /o/, I would post this is the /dbt/ but this isn't a sportsbike.

I've been driving cars for many years now. I've been toying with the idea of recreationally riding a motorcycle on Sunday mornings.

Now as I've never ridden one before, I'm currently looking at the Honda CBR125. I'm between buying a 2004/2006 CBR125. I'm looking to spend less than £900 on the bike.

Any tips or advice about which bike to get or what I should do to improve my experience would be appreciated.

Just post in /dbt/. The sportsbike thing is a joke.

get a harley, thats what all the harley riders do. also dont be scared of a little bike between your legs. unless you're a female whose 90lbs when soaking wet, dont get a 125, thats literally a bike for children. if you like sports bikes and hondas get a 600 and call it a day, you'll be satisfied for years with the bike and if you can't handle learning on a bike with a bit of power, you can't handle a bike at all. it only goes as fast as you tell it too, and throttle control is important on any bike you ride.

these learner bikes are great for learning but thats about it. when you figure out how to ride the bike after a week or so, you will get sick of the gutless 125. its arguable that its more dangerous than a bigger bike because no power to pass cars or get out of bad situations.

also, most importantly, take MSF course

Many thanks. My intention is to buy a Harley Davidson. However, in the UK, the law states that I have to learn on a 125cc bike before I go to the bigger bikes.

I'm 26 so I am old enough to ride anything, but as I've never used a bike before, I just wanted a nice cheap learner bike.

Harleys are the definition of uninformed consumerism.

I'm open to suggestions. Remember, I'm new to all this.
>>
I guess it depends what you want it for, if you're going to learn on it then do a test and move up you can get away with a pretty bog standard bike like a ybr125 or cg125 or something. But if you want to keep it for a while then look to spend a bit more. The Honda Grom is a pretty good and cheap option, depends if you like the style or not. Why the cbr125 over an R125?

It's the cheapest 125 I could find. I don't know a whole lot about makes and models. However I do know that Honda bikes are well received and there's a Honda dealership not too far from me.
>>
you don't need to buy a learner bike fool
CBT and DAS are done on rental bikes, then you're free to ride whatever.

I spent a year on one of these and it was pretty good. Very skinny bike, so great for getting past traffic, handles really well because it's so tiny and has a good amount of tourqe for such a small machine. I will say that the seat is rather hard and you need a lot of room to pass others on the road. I did 200 miles around the lake district on mine, and on roads like that I was just as fast as my dad's ZZR600 and faster than the ZZR14s that came up behind us on our way round. You don't need a 100+bhp supersport for your first bike, I've just picked up a VFR400 with ~55bhp as my fourth bike and the speed is very thrilling on that after 3 years on the road.

I don't know man. I've never seen someone keep a 125 for long. I learned on a 650r and it was perfectly fine. I had ridden dirt bikes a little bit before getting the ninja but not that much. I was able to screw up a lot and never really have to worry. 70hp wasn't enough that if you slipped the throttle it'd try to kill you.
If you're just gonna buy one used and resell it for what you paid sure but make sure you don't even consider buying new. Fuck the fancy fairing just buy the cheapest one you can and learn to ride and then sell it for what you paid

Pretty much this. I had a 125 for a few months and it was mostly shit. Sold it and got a hornet 250 and loved it. 250 is the minimum for doing anything more than delivering pizza imo.

There's no need for name calling. Allow me to clarify what I'm doing. I have 0 experience riding a motorcycle. I am going to get the CBT and then use the 125 until I become competent enough to do the DAS.

I'd have to be a fool to jump straight into the DAS without experience. I'd waste £700-£1k and still not have a licence that permits me to ride anything bigger than 125cc.

it's cool, go at your own pace

when you take the test you'll be underwhelmed by the difficulty. compared to a tescos car park, mod 1 ain't shit. mod 2 is literally a commute. the clicky-video test will give you more trouble

don't listen to this fagot
a 600 cc supersport is going to terrify you or worse

i've been riding for years and have/had many bikes

my fave is a 250, it's quicker than most cars and great around town

harley is great for long trips on open roads

i even have a little 175 for a winter beater, it's fun to around town and on trails

small bikes are dope
