Well, the joke started at the filename, which was "When a V6 literally bores you to death", and then the video capitalized on that joke when the driver of the mustang passed out on the road and smashed into a fence and spun out on the grass, later to wake up. What major thing have you replaced so far and how many mines? I'm curious of a base E90's reliability
>>
>>14677368
I bought it with 103k miles on it.

Had to replace the water pump and thermostat. Most of the bolts to the oil pan were broken and needed to be drilled out and replaced. I replaced the front drive shaft since xi. I need to replace the centerbearing and guibo for my driveshaft. My suspension is fucked and I have to replace all 4 shocks. Im having an issue with brake wobble. So its either all my control arm bushings are fucked and need to be replaced. Or my rotors are warped because the people I bought it from didnt put oem rotors on.

Im not gonna be delusional and say theyre reliable machines, but once they reach high mileage and you replace every part in the car itll go for another 100k until the electrics shit the bed. Its one of the best driving experiences behind a porche or supercar when everything works right and I wouldnt trade it in for anything except for a clean rx7 or miata.

oh and my door trim on the passenger side is disintegrating and you need fire and brimstone to replace it.

I want an S just because 200~ hp on a car that light isnt really special (rsx is cheaper, more reliable, same power using just 87 octane).

Also why the fuck does Porsche love huge steering wheels?

I keep thinking I should just save up more and get a bugeye 911 because they're cheap.

They're pretty cheap too, a little more expensive than a Boxster S from the same generation
Thought they have more power they're also heavier, and not to mention that the Boxster and 911 handle completely differently

Reliability compared to what?

Am not the anon questioned, however am maintaining a 2006 E90 330xi. The vehicle received basic maintenance for over 100K -- engine oil changes, pads & rotors, a coil pack, rear dampers, tires but is both due and over-due for service where applicable as the car is original. Since striving to maintain the vehicle to last as long as possible, have replaced the following under maintenance, necessary repairs for the owner --

>replace front, rear hard brake lines from ASC/ABS pump; corrosion - rust belt symptom
>replace front, rear soft hydraulic hoses & clutch hose -- dryrotting, cracked
>replace front struts, bump stops, bellows -- worn, brittle
>rebuild front, rear brake calipers -- maintenance
>flush asc/abs system -- maintenance
>replace front driveshaft -- failed u-joint
>replace starter -- failed unit
>replace intake, crank position sensor, cam sensors, vanos solenoids, VVT motor, oil cap, intake-manifold-sensors, oil return pipe gaskets & o-rings -- maintenance
>replace crank case breather oil separator, hoses -- maintenance, broken hoses upon handling
>replace oil filter housing gasket -- leaking
>new rotors, pads, wear-sensors front & rear -- maintenance
>replace serpentine belt, tensioner, idler -- maintenance
>replace upper radiator hose -- worn
>replace front, rear differential, transmission, transfer-case, power steering fluids -- maintenance
>replace heater core supply, return hoses -- maintenance
>lubricate hinges
>replace HVAC filter cover -- broken
>replace battery -- worn

Additionally, the vehicle is due for additional maintenance to maintain its reliability --

>full cooling system refresh
>crank-case oil pan gasket - leaking
>possible bed-plate reseal
>rear main seal - while in there
>drive shaft flex-discs, center support bearing - cracked rubber
>air filter
>cabin filter
>front differential seals -- while in there - oil pan gasket
>tie rod ends -- cracked boots
>front thrust arm bushings -- worn

Jesus fucking Christ, I know /o/ likes to shit on econoboxes like the Cavalier but you could drive one of those for 250,000 miles and have a list of repairs done to the car that'd be half that long.

And it's only a 2006! You've damn near had to give it a complete mechanical restoration.

Continued -- Maintenance due -

>spark plugs - worn
>re-coat headlights, fog-lights -- hazy, pitted
>clutch assembly, transmission, transfer-case seals -- while in there - rear main seal
>transfer-case mount bushing -- cracked
>touch-up paint -- chips
>oxygen sensors -- maintenance
>slave-cylinder hard-line -- damaged from failed front-driveshaft
>hood, trunk hydraulic struts -- worn
>head-unit lcd screen -- burnt out pixels
>lubricate seat rails -- dry
>diagnose driver's seat intermittent no power, heat functions
>paint correction -- wear, maintenance
>fluid-film chassis -- maintenance

The maintenance items that are due are both preventative measures and overdue in routine service.

Likewise, the particular vehicle will last as long as its maintained and requires appropriate maintenance to perform as a luxury-performance vehicle accurately. The upkeep is proportional to the technology, equipment, performance the machine was created to offer accurately.

>arguing a logical fallacy

If the goal were to spend as little money as possible an E90 would last just as long, if not longer, than a comparable economy-vehicle of the same era -- they are well made machines of high quality. However doing so eliminates the performance & capability that the BMW was designed to offer and these changes become distinct.

So in order to maintain "the performance & capability that the BMW was designed to offer" you essentially have to do a complete mechanical restoration on it it every 100k miles?

My roommate has a 2006 G35 6MT coupe. A car that arguably was designed to compete against the 3-series. It has 122k miles on it right now.

Repairs done:
>replace LF balljoint
>replace RF seatbelt pretensioner
>replace battery
>warranty service of satnav system
>replace pads and rotors once
>replace pads only, once
>replace RR wheel bearing, twice
>replace all 4 struts
>replace clutch and flywheel
>repair broken exhaust flex pipe
>retime both window motors
>standard oil changes, belt service, tire replacements, tuneups

Repairs currently needed to get it to 100% show room condition
>install TPMS sensors
>repair feeling leather on driver's seat and shift boot
>repair hinge on pop-up satnav screen
>replace parts damaged by hitting raccoon in -15F weather (front bumper, lower core support, washer fluid bottle)
>repair damage from deer running into car (L fender, L door, L 1/4 panel)
>replace the rest of the bushings in the car

I used to think his car was junk because of how much he's had to replace, but you've shown it in a whole new light. Compared to the competition, he's had to replace a lot less.

Although similarly categorized, a G35-coupe and a 330xi-sedan -- each 6MT -- are individual vehicles with different technologies, seeking to fulfill like performance, luxury characteristics desired by consumers but will not be equal in subjective comparison of maintenance goals, frequency when both driving habits and the environment a car is exposed to are unique to their owner & previous owners. However, objectively, the maintenance, and cost of repairs for a 2006 G35-coupe, 6MT is going to be less -- in money & frequency -- because that car offered less to begin with.
