Is a solar car possible, if you only travel
20M (32KM) a day
The average travel time to work in the United States is 25.4 minutes.??
It could sit and charge all day at your job, then you drive home.
I work nights and have a garage
It would have to be light , I read that somebody got their Geo Metro down to 1560lbs.

Have you seen solar cars? They're slow as fuck even with all the low drag aero>
>>14674604
> made me laugh -fucker-
This wouldn't be for everybody....
>>14674626
Yes , but it would have a very small range.
It would look like this..
2204.62lbs (1 tonne)
Or... like this

i don't understand the point at all. you're just mounting the solar panel on the car instead of your garage roof, but the effect is the same. it still routes power through a battery that the car has. might as well just power it from solar being produced at a solar field 30 miles away.
if you really want solar, get an obama grant and put solar on your house's roof and buy an ev.

Good point...(Apartment or Renting... it's already on the car so you don't have to pay to have it installed)
Still, good point.

>Chinese made
That's going to work and be reliable.
Just get a motorcycle
Seriously there is no reason to put solar on a car. Its always going to be the better option to pull from stationary solar or the grid.

Because it just sits there sits 90% of the time,
Buy a horse and feed it on grass.

In the UK we got the Metro with what Americans would consider some pretty high levels of kit; front fog lights, big bucket seats, central locking, electric windows, electric mirrors, boot spoiler etc all on one car. 1560lbs is less than 100lbs lighter than one of those cars so with the mega simple ones over there that doesn't seem like a whole lot of weight to loose.

So add a 180 lb battery =1740lb 0.78tonne
The 4.4kWh lithium-ion battery developed for the Prius Plug-in fits under the rear cargo floor and weighs 80 kg (180 lb). this is good for 20miles
We already have high efficiency solar panels and electric cars that work. The problem is the design and expectations. They keep building electric cars like sedans. Full size and full of comforts instead of a single person econo box which is what it needs to be. One seat, 1200 lbs or less. Ultra small, a non standard vehicle.

1200lb I think would be too light, unless it where a trike (reverse Trike)
