3rd
Rolling for transmission failure.

2nd and 3rd are my favourite gears, 4th is an under appreciated gear by people around where I live, 5th serves its purpose on highways, and 4th helps me get it there, but I find 5th, 4th and 1st mostly unused on the kind of back roads I blast down. 5 speed gearbox here btw :)
Shifting into and out of it has always been smooth
Use it all the time driving around town and even on the highway when passing other cars
4th gear = waifu
My favorite gear is 3rd. It's optimal for cruising around the town.

4th. Smoothest on my car
>>14674433
that think looks ultimate cool man
2nd gear baby
1st, it's the only one that redlines before the speed limit
>>14674433
Seconding 4th
>1st
starting and parking lots
>2nd
tight corners
>3rd
cruising, skidz, wider corners
>4th
passing on the highway
>5th
mileage and 100+ runs
Probably 3rd.

post pics, always cool to see another diesel
I drive a 2002 Mustang GT. 4th is my favorite in this car. All the roads in my area are 35-45mph so I just keep it in 4th because 5th has no torque at that low rpm. If I need to slow down for a turn I just shift into 3rd. Only use 2nd when turning into a neighborhood
I'd say second gear in my 1.8t
Gears...?
I only know of peak tq all the time
>>14674392
Gotta agree with you. 4th is a lovely gear, either for cruising at low rpm in the city or for gunning it on the highways.
2nd is usually kekworthy on turbodiesels, good from 5 to 70 km/h
first gear is my favorite. My gs400 usually takes off in second but when i give it like over halfthrottle itll use first and thousand times folded chassis actually thrusts forward
>>14674562
>thousands # chassis being pulled forward by bands

Top gear
>>14674702
3rd, great for pulls on longer streets in my area where the speed limit is about 45, especially in my datsun 510, best feeling ever
1st gear
No matter the load or how steep the hill the bitch can carry 8 tons up it one time.
2nd
>>14674008
Reverse
>same state as my life

4th. Its the widest range gear. Gets me from 35mph to 80mph without passing 3.5k rpm
>>14674415
>>14674562
>When you hit that first big bump and the cvt explodes
>>14674008

>>14674019
This guy knows. Love it when the VVTL-i in my Corolla XRS kicks in.
It's a tie between 3rd and 4th, with 4th being a bit higher. I just love switching between the two.
>>14675482
Only way to drive for me. You get the best torque and it just makes driving a whole lot of fun
I don't know, maybe 4th.
But I do know for sure that's the worst reverse placement for RHD vehicles. Fuck that shit
Favorite gear is always the highest for them that there Em-pee-gees. The main draw of a manual for me is efficiency, rather than rely on a dumb, blind machine to decide how the machine functions.
If I can roll around at 45mph down some country road in 6th or 5th gear at 1200 rpms I'm a content driver.
>>14675688
But you'll have to slow down for curves or other cars. Why not just go in 4th gear at 1800-2000 RPM? You'll have to downshift either way
In my commodore, I like first. It has huge pick up in first, and nothing in the other gears.
the one I get to pick
Also, 4th because closest to 1:1
>favorite gear
Drive
>>14675834
You know what I like the most with automatics? Since you don't have to actually operate the gear selector while the car is moving, you can have fun putting in or out of park by sitting on it like a dildo and wiggling your ass.
I only have a 4 speed auto atm.
Third gear, on my 4-speed.

>>14674008
2nd. flat from first is sort of....meh and linear. But mashing the pedal at 2000 in 2nd makes me laugh every time. Dat lag and when it finally kicks in....the crazy acceleration gets me every time.
FiST btw
>>14674008
Whatever the highest gear is in a manual, because I don't have to shift up again because it's hard.
Otherwise based D.
>>14675701
No, I slow down for curves or stop on country roads by depressing the clutch pedal.
Manuals are extremely efficient if driven correctly in ideal conditions, eg, country roads at moderate speeds and no traffic or stops.
They suck in heavy traffic and are approximately equal on high-speed highways, the top gear being equal respectfully.
I get 46mpg out of my 1998 Honda Civic because I drive very sedately and I optimize my driving for the road conditions and I live off a mostly disused paved two lane highway.
>tfw semi truck so anything up to 4 will be ok
I guess 9th gear on a 10 speed for dat acceleration.
>>14676005
>5
Sheeeeeiiiiiit, guess I better drop my trailer.
OD>D>R>N>L>P>S
4th cause it just slides right in
3rd
When I need to pass I downshift to 4th, then pull out and hit 3rd, vroom till 120kph and fly
>the sound of the redline
1st and 2nd through the car parks because exhaust leaks.
If you drive a 5 speed and you don't say 4th you're a faggot
Rolling for a fucked-up clutch
Second gear because fast
Fourth gear because mpg
3rd, great thing is has the most fucked synchro of the lot.
>>14674008
3rd is the magic gear, powerful pulls for normal driving speeds, and drifting.
>>14676481
10/10 m8
>>14675911
Not him, but in my mustang 4th gear is literally 1.00:1
City - 3rd - Excellent responsiveness for noise and passing, along with decent economy, even in crawl speeds on the highway
Anything else - 4th - also relatively decent economy with great passing power on the highway
3rd is probably my favorite.
I only need 2nd gear for really slow, narrow turns and 5th and 6th for cruising and downhill coasting.

2nd
It's low enough to make my shitbox actually feel like it's moving when I give it throttle, but it's also tall enough that it doesn't wind out too quickly
>>14677082
My Lexus has a 1.00:1 5th gear (6 gears in total)
>>14674562
I have a cvt but i'm always afraid its going to somehow just explode or something. I tend to drive it in sequential on occasion using the paddles, but for general driving cvt is just easier, bit of throttle then just backing off once you reach the road speed. It also makes keeping speed ridiculously easy once you get up to a speed its just a minimal amount of throttle input, though up hills maintaining a speed can be a bit annoying as it tends to drop a bit of speed on steeper hills unless you use a fair bit more throttle overall, but tends to settle at the speed or close to it, usually a little bit over.
>>14674008
3rd for sudden acceleration and sound
5th for cruising around town.
>dat V6 Diesel torqs
>>14674544
It's a Punto, so nothing that special.
reverse ....straight cut gear whine ftw
3rd is the only gear that sometimes makes my car feel like it has power.
>>14679127
5th all the way
>>14674021
>pic
wtf happened here, holy shit
>>14674008
5th, because it means I'm cruising at high efficiency and covering ground at a good rate.
As long as I'm going above 45, anyway. Below that, it has no power. Stupid efficient at that speed, though, so I just have to remember to downshift before accelerating.
1st is my least favourite. It's literally only useful for starting up, and even then it's geared for starting uphill.
>>14674433
came here to say this
4th gear at about 32 MPH in my car makes a super nice whining noise
>>14674636
>missing a shift

4th sounds best on my '91 Nissan truck. Plus it feels best when you pull down instead on push up on the shifter

>>14674008
Probably 6th? Mostly because it means I'm going somewhere. Like to a vacation destination, or just on a long road trip with some of my favorite people. It means getting away, heading for fun. 6th gear is freedom from monotony, it's freedom from everything that isn't happiness.
But if we're talking when I was 16, first. Because launches and tire smoke.
5th because cruising from 40 to 200kmh.
Diesel masterrace.
>>14674008
2nd is where most boost comes on, 3rd gear is also nice but will mean I've lost my licence
3rd, doing 60 on the highway drop to 3rd, hit like 5k with 2500 to play with.
I need new synchros though for 1-2 and 2-3 so i havent used 2nd in a few weeks.
