I'm looking for an alternative to this baby. I want a fun car to use on the side. Budget is about €15-30 euro.
Some rules:
>If younger than 25 years maximum is a 2.5l engine (tax reasons)
coupe
>coupe/roadster
>no significant depreciation anymore
>rwd (awd acceptable, fwd not)
>as light as possible
>able to fit in when you're 2m

There's suprisingly little cars that fit this description. The opel speedster would be perfect but my insurance wants €3500 a year to insure it which is to much for a car I could only use 50 days a year.
Another alternative is the lotus esprit or porsche 911 but really there should be better alternatives out there.

current company car is a vw golf gtd, fun car should not necesarilly be faster but it should be more fun

Already have a golf gtd see no reason why I would also want my fun-car to be one...

>>14672661
Miata is not what I am looking for, firstly elbows bang the door, I just can't fit comfortably, secondly the new ones still will depreciate a lot and the older ones are to cheap. The car should 'store' some of my money.
>>
>>14672621
M3
>>
>>14672680
They are heavy cars, not very interesting. They are above 2.5L and not old enough.
The e30 M3 is more expensive than 30k for a decent one.

I like them even though engine swaps are not legal here...
It's not a bad car but not exactly what I'm looking for. Could be a plan B type of car (but then I'm better of with an elise)

Fuck off.

OP, Elise sounds perfect for you. Or maybe look into Japanese cars? An rx7 or s2000 perhaps.
>>
>>14672764
a 2.5 younger than 25yrs costs about €1.2k a year in tax anything above will easily go to 3k and more. Quite expensive for a toy I can only use a few days a year. Just not cost effective anymore to own, then I better just rent a porsche 10 times a year for a day.
>>
>>14672621
Can't you make one of those insurance where they charge you for the amount of km you make rather than a flat rate? If you want to use it a few days of a year, it seems the best solution
>>

if you want an open top and can't spring for a Boxster due to tax reasons, what about this trio? Not as darty as the Speedster but still pretty good drives all of them.
>>
Vauxhall VX220
>>
>15-30€

Burago has some neat stuff
>>
>>14672858

The Z4 is heavy, but a good drivers car. Only it is still depreciating a lot. Good suggestion though!
I love the concept of the SLK but it is not a nice ride. The audi tt is sort of crappy, just as the alfa brera.
>>
>>14672621
What about a Z3? Didn't they also make a Vauxhall that was basically the same car? Or Elise, Toyota MR2 or MRS (whatever it's called). You guys never got the Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Sky, did you?
>>
>>14672895

Vauxhall is RHD, so not an option, the insurance issue would be just the same I imagine.

I don't like the Z3, it is basically like the mx5 but only more expensive. I'm looking for a car with some value, to put some money into and to get back in 5 years or so.

The mr2 I like it, I need to find out what the insurance thinks, I hope it has abs and airbags etc. since it is to young to insure cheaply as an oldtimer. Though then I'm still stuck with a heap of unspend cash.

But if you really have a budget that big, why not get a decent boxster? As long as you don't put a million miles on it, you should still be able to get some decent money back when you get bored of it.

Or an early 90s 911. I would love one of those.

What about Elise? Taxed to shit like its sibling Speedster?

S2 Elises can be had for a reasonable price and S1 cars are actually currently appreciating in value
>>
>>14672922

I love the boxster my GF's mom has one. If I was able to use the car every day I would dislike paying the high taxes but still do so. However I can only drive it only like 50 days a year.
I could live with high maintenance costs, but the high taxes, high insurance fees would mean the car costs me €200 or so per day I use it. That's more expensive than renting a boxster, and a lot more expensive than having my GF borrow her moms boxster.

I'm looking more in the line of either a recent gem that I forgot about (with a decent but small motor) or something a little older (big motor allowed) but incredibly cool. It must be more interesting that a lotus esprit of porsche 911 because that are at this moment the most sensible cars for me to buy.
>>
>>14672948
Will a Supra or RX-7 hold its value like they are doing in the US? RX-7 has that hella low displacement too.

What years are you thinking for a 911? I think that would be awesome. And have you called around for insurance quotes? That seems ridiculous for that Boxster when it won't even be a DD.

What about classics like older Z cars?
>>
>>14672918
Yeah I'm trying to have a car that I could sell for about the same (win or loose a few €1000) as I pay for it in a few years. Also adding a turbo/supercharger is illegal where I live.

>>14672930
E36 -> engine to big & not old enough (I also think that is an extremely uninteresting car)
Z3 -> coupe is nice but engines to big, roaster is an expensive mx5
S2000 -> good suggestion, they are very rare to find unmollested though
SC400 -> they don't exist here, and they are heavy, not sporty, and the engine is to big and they are to young...
mx-5 to small for me
rx-7 I have yet to see one in real life
SLK, I don't like the way it drives, it is very heavy, to heavy. I do love the concept though.
Nissan 300zx -> engine to big (not old enough) and old ones are pure rust, also they are to cheap
Nissan s13 -> if only they were sold here, would be nice.
Toyota ae-86 I don't think they exist here, never seen one.
Toyota supra -> old ones are 100% rust, new ones have a 3l engine and are not yet 25yrs old.
MG F most crappy car that exists, I will not go near it.
Porsche 986 -> not 25 years old yet
MR2 -> yep on the list, going to ask what the insurance would be
3000 gt don't think they exist here, also very heavy and engine to big for that age.
>>
>>14672954
Dunno about the on the continent but in the UK in the rx-7 is taxed as a 2.6 and the rx-8 is in the same tax band as a supercharged range rover
>>
>>14672954
Late 70's and 80's 911s in a decent but less than perfect conditions do come up for around €30k, and even 964s but 993s are ussualy to expensive.

996 are cheaper but they are to expensive in taxes & insurance.

The RX-7 is almost nonexistent. I would now what the price for it is since there is not enough of them around, also wouldn't know were to get parts. I'm staying away from that one for that reason.

Older nissans are just piles of rust. There's also no market for them. I would consider a decent one though.
>>
>>14672940

They are about twice as expensive as an opel speedster. Insurance will be high (no abs/esp/airbags) but the tax is lower. However the only ones within my price range are the rover K-series engines with high mileage or unclear history. Nice ones are usualy still to expensive. However it is one I am searching actively for.

comming from what probably is an american who lives in a country with higher wages, lower income tax and where the roadtax on a 7L chevy is probably lower than our roadtax on a 650cc smart, not to mention that cars are on average 50% cheaper there ...

So yeah I do care about taxes and depreciation.

Lotus sounds perfect for you OP, as previously mentioned, the toyota powered elise and exige are awesome little cars, they are like go karts, have a feeling of urgency about them, and they grip round corners like you wouldn't believe, also i personally think they look incredible, its that sort of massively aggressive and cute combination look... also you shouldn't have many rust problems since the few metal body components which it has are aluminium.

GT86/BRZ & WRX are awesome cars but seeing they already lost that much of their value compared to the newprice I see them loosing even a lot more in the next five years. Would be great to own though...

The opel GT is a horrible car, it has nothing to do with the awesome speedster.

Plenty of choice on the older side of the market.

Fiat 124 Sport Coupe/Spider
Alfa 2000 GTV or Spider or 1600GT
Peugeot 504 Coupe
Ford Escort or Capri or Sierra Cosworth
Porsche 928 or 944

And older cars are much easier to fit properly in because flat door cards, small dashboards, and narrow steering column.

How about a Porsche Cayman ? It has good interior, it is good looking and is RWD and mid-engined so you get 2 boots, also comes in both manual and 7 speed PDK.

Just because a new tax is added, doesn't mean the old one goes away.

When the CO2 emission laws came in, they kept the CC laws too.
