Any tips on buying an old E90?

Is £5500 too cheap?

I don't mind going for some entry level 320, I just want a stylish looking commute car

Should I just go for an older E46 instead?

Buy an E46 m8, pref a petrol 6 cylinder so 325 or 330. More reliable than the E90.

Avoid paki owned too.

My mate and I bought old 3 series about 8 months ago.

He got an E90 316i from 2007 for 10k EUR
I got an E46 316i from 2000 for 2.3k EUR

Parts for my car are definately cheaper, and it's much easier to work on.

Because of the age tho, I have already had to fix alot of shit.
But again, it's (relatively) easy and cheap to do and I like the experience of fixing my own car.

In the end tho, even with all the repairs, mine will still cost less than half of his.
If you think the design is worth double the cost, and you don't wanna work on your car: get the E90

Otherwise get the E46.

I actually prefer mine in terms of handling. It's just a little more of a driver's car I think.

Pic related, it's my baby (before and after pics. I spent around 1500eur to make it look like this)

Niggers buy 320i/d and debadge them.

>More reliable than the E90

Really? In what ways?

>>14672540
Looks pretty nice
£5k could probably get a half decent E46 right?
>>
>>14672545
5k???? i'm looking to buy one and the ones in the better condition are about 3k euro, for 5k pounds you can have a prestine one, although i'd buy one for around 3k and use the 2k to fix whats wrong or touch it up

Depends on wether you're getting a sedan or a coupe. The coupes are much more expensive.

3K could buy you an okay 318i sedan
an okay 318ci coupe will run you 5K.

My advice though would be to not get the 4cylinders. They are irritatingly slow, and the 6cylinders aren't all that expensive.

I'm from the Netherlands by the way, so prices may vary depending on where you live.

I'd say 5 or 6K will definately get you a good 325i sedan and they drive like an absolute dream!

E90's look a little more modern for sure, but the E46 is holding up really really great dispite it's age. If you spend a small amount of money on the exterior you will look better than stock E90's.

pic related is both of our cars.
I have to say, his looks extraorinarily good for a stock E90. You don't find em like this very often. Not over here at least. Factory tint and everything.
>>
>>14672558
Yeah I love the modern looks but don't want to get myself into a financial hole if they are less reliable and more expensive to fix.

How many miles would you say is too much when looking at preowned BMW's?

Anything else I should look out for?
>>
>>14672574

I don't know about the E90, but the E46 can do over 300K kilometres easy IF maintained properly.

It all depends on how the previous owner(s) maintained it.
>>
>>14672588
Yeah figures as much, what about transmission? It'ssurprising how hard it seems to be able to find a decent manual in the UK

How's the automatic transmission on the 325 / 330 e46?
>>
>>14672596

I used to drive my dads e46 330d automatic before I bought my 316i.

He had to actually get the tranny revised for about 3k. After that it broke down again but he still had waranty. Now it seems to be doing fine.

Apart from the times it died it drives pretty damn great
>>
e46 and save/wait for the f30 to hit your range
>>
>>14672515

Don't buy an E90 without a warranty. And if it's a none BMW one, then make sure it covers FUCKING EVERYTHING.
>>
>>14672515
E46 is way better. E90 doesn't have a dipstick.
>>
>>14672515
Barring stupid crossovers the E90 was one of the worst BMWs ever made, conversely the E46 is one of the best. You figure the rest out.
>>
>still buying high mileage / old ass BMWs
>2016

You people never fucking learn do you? I guess you can take the Turk out of Turkey but you can't take Turkey out of the Turk.

You get what you deserve if you buy one of these pieces of shit, and that is horrendous repair costs every few thousand km.
>>
>>14672752
how much do you think is too high mileage?
There's plenty advertised online at reasonable prices for 50,000 - 80,000 miles which isn't even half of the cars lifespan

Buying brand new cars is the real scam, the moment you drive off the parking lot your car just decreased in value by thousands of dollars
>>
>>14672760
>how much do you think is too high mileage?

People in Germany who can afford to buy these cars brand new start giving them away when they hit 100.000km, and there is a reason why.

One of my colleagues recently bought a 3 year old 520d with 45.000km (ex leasing/company car).

The clutch AND gearbox was fucked after a few months. He got both replaced under warranty but that should just give you some idea of how
>people treat their BMWs
>BMWs cope with being treated like that

They start falling the fuck apart.
>>
>>14672596

I used to own a 320 automatic, for a dd/commuter its perfect, they handle great and the automatic is a tiptronic so you can still change gears manually. Don't expect alot of power though...

In no ways. E90 is better in every way. That's a fact. E46 fanatics are the rudest, most ignorant fanbase in the bmw community. Go ahead and check.
>>
>>14677674

This is true. I've owned e90's since the 2006 330Xi to a 2011 328Xi and never had a single issue. Maintenance isn't that bad. Pretty sick of the "E46 was the last good BMW" bs spewed from non BMW owners. the E90 is better in every way.

Since he`s in the UK an E90 worth 5500 gbp would be like a car worth 10k euros in Europe. Cars in UK are cheap. OP look at 330d m sports, decent reliability, decent mpgs, decent power, nice handling.
>>
>>14672769
>People in Germany who can afford to buy these cars brand new start giving them away when they hit 100.000km, and there is a reason why.
The reason is that the warranty often voids at 100k and the people don`t want to bother if anything ever fails on their cars.
My mate bought a 2010 VW passat with just over 120k km`s on the clock, the warranty had ran out in Germany. He did a timing belt replacement for 400 euros and that`s it, he`s owned the car for 3 years with no issues.

If you don't even know what CSL's are, how the fuck would ever be able to tell they're fake?

Don't act like you know anything when you're really a fucking doofus
