V8 or gtfo

Unfortunately v6, but also free so I can't complain
Do a full fluid swap.
Otherwise should be okay. Might have to research some common issues.
They are nice cars imho. Do a good clean, polish, and wax. It should make for a nice comfy-boat.

You can complain. Sell that boring shit and get something fun.

Should I still do the fluid swap if its coming from a close family member that I know takes care of his cars?

Unless you can confirm the mileage the stuff has been done. Fluid swaps are only a good thing for used cars. Sometimes unnecessary.
If you can confirm it's up to date, follow the user manual for service intervals. Should be fine otherwise.
Just thought of this, on these huge boatmobiles (lincoln, mercury, old jags, etc), get a good look at the suspension. springs like to break after 100k.

100k miles or km?
I think its at 136k km
>>14670155
Miles, should have specified.
They have crazy huge curb weights, so suspension takes a pretty hard hit.

Would that be a good time to give it some sort of upgrade? If so, what would I do?
Also what should I look for when I look at it to know that the springs are going to break soon?

It's free. He can sell it for money to get a fun car. That means, basically, he got money for free.
What's to complain about?

Honestly I would just go with aftermarket stock replacements.
Performance upgrades are kind of pointless on these types of cars unless you are going the muscle car direction; straight line power, can't into turns. But that murders the already lacking MPGees
Creature comforts are what I did on my old Sable LS:
Better headunit and speakers, full interior detail, floormats, LED map light swap, and tint.
Was a comfy fucking car. I miss it

Holy fuck. Unless flushes have been performed on this vehicle on a regular basis, a flush will basically set a death sentence for your car

I've heard of that happening on a transmission before, but not on something with 84k miles dude. It's probably due in 15k miles for that anyway.
