I work at an insurance auction in the northwest. Hundreds of cars come through here every day to be sold for parts. Some of these are pretty dangerous to work with (heroin addicts leaving needles in the car, blood splatters, sharp shit in general). Thankfully we do most of the handling with fuckhuge Volvo fork-trucks.
Here are some of the more /o/ tier vehicles I saw today, as well as some really gnarly wrecks in general. May they rest in piece.
First up we have a teenager slipping his meme car into a semi trailer.

Yeah, we get lots of arsons/insurance scam fires. The whole front lot is toasted RVs that people can't make payments on, as well as a horse trailer that was set on fire full of race horses to get their life insurance policies. (Yes, they do those for race horses.)

An agent will investigate the case and just give their educated opinion. When the car has no damage as is the case with that Ram, it'll usually be treated as a scam.

The most scummy thing that happens here is that Somali, Arab, and Russian buy-here-pay-here lot owners will buy several wrecked copies of a certain model, and build a functioning car out of the parts and resell it under a salvage title. Single moms and dumb teenagers get scammed into buying lemons.

Just wondering. I have no plans for insurance fraud. My car isn't worth anything as is and I have more intelligence than to enter into a binding agreement which I can't afford.

That'd probably work if you just said the other guy smashed into you and ran away. But it'd be hard to fake a collision that would cause a fire in a modern car. You'd need to buy a Pinto and drive 30mph in reverse into your car.

Not OP but I used to work for a (now subsidiary of KAR Auction) company that sold insurance write-offs, theft recovered, and non-salvage cars.
I've seen a smashed up Lamborghini (Gallardo? Not sure at all now) almost sell for £105k but the seller pulled out, ended up going for £80k ish kek.
I've also seen a newish Ferrari that was smashed up, and a newish Bentley that was damaged. Damned if I know how much they sold for or what models they were though.

Figures, was just wondering as there's this one small scrap yard pretty close to me that has an extremely conveniently placed hole in the wall and the owner of that place just happens to forget to turn on the yard camera every friday from 2100 to 0100.
The cars over there are usually stripped from everything valuable and the rest is sold for scrap metal, probably the same thing you guys are running there but in a smaller scale, if I am not completely mistaken on your joint there.
The owner of that small yard is quite the bro I must say, saved me and my meager income countless of times when I was in a pinch and needed some hard to come by part.
