What does /o/ think of a 94 bmw 318is
worth the money? would it make a fun daily/ something i can enjoy on the weekends
pic related, the one im thinking about getting
>>
do it bro

e36s handle great

plus there's zillions of DIY support
>>
>>14664756
BMW make shit 4 cylinder cars, you won't be enjoying anything because they're as gutless as they are cheap, go for a 320i or a 325i
>>
>>14664773
are the 4 bangers reliable
i know they arent hard to fix
>>
>>14664795
I don't have any experience with the M4X engines, but I have owned a 320i with an M50 and currently own a 328i with an alloy M52. Both have been very reliable so far and easy to work on. IMO any E36 below the 325i is wasted money.
>>
>>14664756
If you're going with the 4-cyl get the 318ti.
>>
>>14664795
I was looking to buy a e36 recently and test drove nearly 10 different cars ranging from the 318 to the m3, ended up settling for my miata but even that has more power than a 318, which says alot because miata are notoriously slow
>>
>>14664795
This, also how similar are the z3 do e36 things apply to them or no

somewhat on both counts, the sixes are far better in every way.

Bump up to a 323 for dat long ratio gearbox

>>
>>14668034
You can do most of that on your own easily.

Why are there people on this board who don't have their own code reader and the initiative to take care of their own cars?
>>
>>14668034
I'm buying a i4 not i6
>>
>>14668523
>said by the guy whose transmission died
>>
>>14668646
true, although that's an inevitability on the automatics and isn't really apparent in a ppi
really wish the 540i wagons came as manual in the states
>>
>>14668641
The i4s are notoriously worse for maintenance.
>>
i've owned an e36 316i and recently bought my gf a 318i. Both cars had a fuckload of miles on them but they were running like new. 4cyl e36's are incredibly slow but they are lighter than the 6cyl e36's and they can still be plenty fun. Just enough power to rip skids but you won't be winning many dragraces with it.
>>
>>14668905
Just to be fair, you won't be winning any drag races with the 6 cyl either.

it's like this isn't /o/

Why the fuck did you buy a new valve cover. NEW mind you. Not used.

How do you spend $1200 changing rotors and pads front and rear.
>>
>>14668963
in all fairness, good rotors are expensive, but the OE rotors are way fucking overpriced for what they are, i could totally see a full set of OE pads and rotors being $1000
>>
>>14668911
Yeah I forgot America got cucked with the M3. The euro 321hp m3 kicks ass
>>
>>14668905
I don't plan on racing I want something that can do 80 -100 and can corner and is overall fun to drive
>>
>>14669489
Yeah it's quite fun to drive. Spins tyres on 2nd gear so you can do some mad skids. Kind of like a miata, low on power, 50/50 weight split but more practical, more comfortable and also heavier.
>>
>>14664756
good/light engine, fat car
this explains why the 1990 318 is so expensive (same engine a few hundred pounds less)
>>
>>14664756
I have an E30 318is, it was fun to toss around stock, but painfully slow. The E36 318is is heavier and makes barely any more power, so it will be less fun. If you're going to get an E36, get an M3. Don't bother with any other E36.

I turbocharged my 318is, now it is fun in the straights and the corners.
>>
>>14669885
What mods did you do with the turbo
Studs?
I was thinking of turboing it
>>
>>14669917
ARP studs, MLS head gasket, obvious fuel system supporting mods. T3/T4 50 trim, 18psi of boost.
>>
>>14669926
What turbo

Anything in particular I should look for or listens for when I look at the car

I have a '92 318i I bought for $700... Defog and wipers didn't work and the stock suspension was pogo sticks. $400 and a few weekends later and it's a great car. Despite not having had an oil change for 2 years before i bought it, lol
