Chevy says they will put 10 speed automatic transmission on 8 cars by 2018
http://www.autoblog.com/2016/03/16/2017-chevy-camaro-zl1-first-look-3487537/
It's on the camaro zl1, but what the fuck else could it be on?
>Corvette Stingray
>Corvette Z06
>Corvette Grand Sport
>Chevy SS
>camaro
That's 6 vehicles.
What 2 other vehicles could GM put a 10 speed auto on?

Something that will be recalled.

impalla ss
idk maybe europeen cars?
probably the trucks but
>Wanting a 10 speed transmission
>ever
call it the CST: the Continuously Shifting Transmission
>>14658090
That's a fwd turd box. By the looks of it this transmission can only fit in cars with a properly mounted engine.

>Implying all those high rpm shifts will slow it down compared to only a few at lower RPMs
>>14658151
you have 640 lb-ft of torque. you don't need to micromanage the powertrain at that speed. odds are that 3 or 4 of those gears are purely highway cruising gears. 7 speeds is still a shitload, but kind of reasonable with 5 acceleration gears and 2 highway gears. 10 speeds? why not just make a stronger CVT at that point.
Just let the manuel cuck mission die already faggots

Everything will be recalled my good friend.
Escalade, Yukon/Tahoe, Silverado/Sierra
Their 8 speed auto has two overdrive, this will have 3 at least.

Longevity, and CVTs aren't able to handle heavy loads at speed.
A 10 speed can be geared to keep the vehicle at an Economical RPM across a wider range of speeds while being able to deal with stress.
A proven technology further matures, while the CVT is still in its infancy.

Sierra/Silverado
Tahoe/Yukon
Suburban/Yukon XL

>while the CVT is still in its infancy.
But the Prius is one of the few cars in the world that can easily clock 200,000 miles without an issue.
>>14658075
Corvette
Camaro
SS
Silverado
Suburban/Tahoe
ATS
CTS
I'm missing number 8 here. Maybe Silverado HD?
>>14658433
>>14658433
Priuses also have very low power and torque.
>>14658075
At some point you gotta think the benefits of having so many gears would be out weighed by the amount lost when shifting.
Acceleration (1-3) you only really need 3 or 4 geared to best mpg at certain common speed limits (one for 55, one for 75, one for 105)
Not only time lost shifting but wouldn't of also put a lot more strain on solenoids inside the box too?
>>14658095
>he doesn't like shifing up through as many gears as possible
>he doesn't wish he could shift up indefinitely as the rpms keep going up, then down, then up again as the needle on the speedo keeps going higher, as time melts into a haze of automotive ecstasy
come on m8.
>>14658435
Only limited to Chevy m8
>>14658095
Imagine a 10 speed with 80s/90s shift programming.
>>14658460
>>14658460
Been following the 10-speed and they absolutely have not said that. They're definitely going to put it in the trucks which already brings in GMC, and if they do it to a GMC Denali, then theyre doing it to an escalade.
So we have Chevy, GMC, likely Cadillac. Maybe theyre bringing a RWD Buick out?
>>14658433
I said CVTs are in their infancy, the Prius is a low power vehicle, we are finally just starting to see CVTs in more powerful vehicles.
Your new WRX with a CVT will probably be fine after 250K miles of commuting, a Super Duty truck on the other hand that is twice the gross weight, hauling tons of material for long periods of time will destroy current CVT tech.

>>14658460
Same guy btw, but I hope Ford uses this 10-spd to bring back a RWD Lincoln. A new Town Car variant, perhaps.
>>14658487
now turn your 80s/90s cruise control on, and it is a Chrysler.
>Start to climb hill
>Drops 6 gears
>Moneyshifts itself
