A lot of them have a button that just applies the regular brakes. It's pretty dumb. If you hit it while moving it kind of just slows you down like if you rested your foot firmly on the brakes. I don't even know if it works with the car off.

Where does he specially say to only use the handbrake for hills?

He said it's an option for steep hills if you don't want to roll back. Here is a little secret:

don't roll back.
>>

>needing ebrake for a hill start
If you're really that bad though, most cars with electric ebrakes have hill assist and holds the ebrake on until you start moving.

I managed to never roll back on a fucking 1.4i with 100Nm I used to drive before, without using the handbrake a single time.
Git gud burgers.
>>

jesus, even on steepest hills in 70 kw shitbox you can rev to 4k and dump clutch and take off if you are unable to do it smoothly. A lot of wear but you don't have to use handbrake. Most old used cheap as fuck cars in my area dont have those in working order anyway

The only time I have ever smoked a clutch was when I was 17 and I was showing off for a girl at a red light on perfectly flat ground.

Electronic. There's a switch somewhere.
>>14654803
Automatic, supposedly.

I got the lowdown on the whole electronic handbrake meme when I was shopping for my current car. I sat in one of the cars on my list, adjusted the seat, and looked around to check where the controls where.
Then my mouth engaged itself without informing my brain, and I asked the salesman where the handbrake was. 'Oh, it's electronic' and he launched into a sales pitch on all the bells and whistles it did.

I settled for a car with a proper handbrake instead.

> Autofags saying you don't need handbrake for hill starts
You don't really, but I'd rather trust it while sat there on an incline than the regular brakes. I seldom actually use it to push off from because I know how to fucking drive, though. I can figure out what the engine's doing from the noises it's making and the vibrations on the pedals and through the seat.

There are babbies on /o/ who can't drive a stick without a tach. Remember when tachs were the option that your dad (and all the jews you bought used cars from) was too cheap to get?
>>
this has become such a meme

starting on a hill with a handbrake isn't that bad, and it's super easy

starting on a hill with fancy heel-toe stuff isn't that hard, so don't feel so superior about it

>Remember when tachs were the option that your dad (and all the jews you bought used cars from) was too cheap to get?

No. I remember my mother's car didn't have one when I was a kid, but it was a shitbox Peugeot with a Leyland gearbox that caused me to learn most of my swearwords.
And my family were well-off enough to own new cars that weren't absolute base models.
And I'm british. We don't have a lot of shitty cars here these days. They all got turned in under the scrappage scheme a few years ago and turned into spare parts for enthusiasts who fixed the major issues.

Even my shitbox £700 first car was a '99 model year.

>No handbrake, no heel-and-toe, no sitting at the friction point for more than a second
>Never roll backwards
>Never rev more than 1500-2000 on a hill start
>Just smoothly take off by slowly engaging the clutch and gently accelerating

My car had the clutch replaced at 100,000km when my sister originally owned it, and it's still completely fine at 185,000km now, so whatever I'm doing can't be wearing it out too badly.
>>
>>14660589
Nothing wrong with using the handbrake if you're driving normally and end up on a hill. Not everyone wants to sit on a near vertical hill in gear for several minutes, and using the handbrake at least prevents you from being liable if some dickshit automatic driver decides to let go of their breaks and creeps into the back of your car.

OK there Steve McQueen, teach us more about what a slick badass you are with your dope clutch skills.

Holy fuck you people are intolerable, using the handbrake is literally the best method for hill starts. It puts the least wear on your clutch.

You all talk like a bunch of ridiculous Miata fags with your notorque shitboxes that probably eat clutches every 10,000 miles.

I guarantee I'm a better driver than 99% of you idiots and I use the handbrake for steep hill starts.
