How important is it to follow the service intervals on changing spark plugs? My manual says every 3 years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first. My car is going to turn 6 years old in October, so I was curious if I should bother.
>>
what the fuck car has a 40k spark plug interval?
>>
>>14645149

not until one fails
>>
>>14645149
You should replace them twice to make up for the time you didn't replace them when you were recommended to.
>>
>>14645169
Luxury brands or high powered sports cars.

I think E39 M5's intervals are the same.
>>
>>14645169
>>14645169

Euro cars tend to.
>>
>>14645198
huh. guess that makes sense.

OP, if they're in an easy place to check you can pull one out and inspect it. compare it to a 'bad spark plug' chart online and if it seems bad, go ahead and replace it.

but it depends on how difficult it is to do so. normally I'd recommend doing ignition coils and wires at the same time but I was thinking an interval closer to 100k.
>>
>>14645149
Jesus Christ......stop being poor. Change your god damned plugs.
>>
>>14645169

It's an Audi A4.

>>14645178

They were replaced in 2013, as I had not yet hit 40,000 miles by that service.
>>
>>14645228
This. They're $2 a piece and it's a 30min job on even the worst engine layout.
>>
>>14645169

Hell my father's truck has a 60k interval
>>
>>14645238
Christ son have you only worked on longitudinal V engines?
>>
>>14645238

> 30 minutes on worst layout
> He hasn't seen the worst layouts
>>
>>14645242
>>14645243
Apparently I haven't seen shit. What cars take longer than that?
>>
>>14645248
f bodies
2001 expeditions and f150's
Subaru
dodge trucks and vans
>>
>>14645248
Boxers, FWD V6's/V8's, shit that requires you to unbolt the engine off the mounts to get to.
>>
>>14645238
On certain engines you have to roll the engine forward to have access to some plugs lad

they always seem to snap on these. i wouldn't change them on a f150 for anything.
>>
>>14645238

>>
>>14646481
companies like Lexus use an Iridium plug from the factory. those are $10 a pop +
>>
>>14646519
Jesus, for six plugs at that price I could get an entire kit with plugs, cap, rotor and wires AND a fucking air and oil filter.
>>
>>14645330

Never had to drop the engine for a 95 z28. It was tight, but no where near that bad.
>>
>transverse v6 fwd
