Dumb question but what's the protocol for transporting a car you buy to your house in the UK?
Say I buy from a private seller 50+ miles away, I need to insure it fully before moving it to my place?
Don't you have transfer plates in the UK?

Typically if you buy a car you'll just take the licence plate that's already on that car, the licence plate laws here are more strict.
>tfw someone saved that pic
mang you didn't even save my good interior pic from that car.

You can get trade plates for your car from the dealer but that's risky considering second-hand dealers tend to be slippery bastards.
I say "Better safe then sorry", get the car insured the day before you move it, get it taxed for six months and then year on year so you're not pissing all the money at once. After all that, you should be kosher.

I like that very much

so:
1. visit car to see if interested in it
2. buy the car from owner without taking it home (no idea how this works legally, if I have to have him give me the cars reg book before I can insure or whatever)
3. insure it from my house over phone
4. make sure it's taxed
5. pick it up from owner

BMW M1 is always a good shot.

You can leave a deposit to show you want to buy the car but not right now.
I said to my insurer I don't own the car yet but I'll be picking on that date so the insurance can start can it did.
Get it insured and then tax it online. That's it.
You and the seller both need to fill in and sign the V5 and he has give you the small green part, which acts as your registration document until you get the new V5 in the post.
Here in Canada you can get a point a to point b permit to move the vehicle.

So I can insure it without having the V5 already?
>>14635639
Yep, that's what I did
>>14635660
Ah alright, thanks for the info.
>>14635639
Yes, you can. The last car I bought I insured and taxed on my phone in the car park when I picked it up

Really? Every time I've renewed my insurance I've been put on hold for at least half an hour
