I think part of the reason is because stance breaches so many aspects of legality and compliance when it comes to vehicles on the road here. Like, having excessive camber will get you a defect notice. Having wheels and tyres protruding beyond the edge of the wheel well will get you defected. Being lower than 10cm off the ground will get you defected by a copper with one of those little rollers on wheels that they love to use.
Yet there seems to be no law against having body kits that make your eyes sore, fart cannon exhausts (so long as it's below 90dB), altezza lights, 19" chrome wheels, and bumpers that aren't the same colour as the rest of the body. Which describes probably half the Lancers, Mirages, and Supras that I see on the road these days. Why ricers love base model Mitsubishis, I have no idea.
