How would a subaru impreza sedan or legacy be for this?

shut up and buy a civic for <5k. 90% as good as an econobox from 2014 and less than 25% of the money.
>>
>>14620735
I don't need a shit car for $5k. I need an effective car for $16-20k that will last a long time with minimal maintenence. Basically imagine a car that a dad would buy, except it needs to be standard and perform in a blizzard on top of a mountain, because that's the exact situation it will be in

I have a civic. In the 2 years i've had it it's been to the shop 3 times. valve cover gasket, thermostat, power steering rack. Less than $1k in repairs. Bought it for 2k.
>>
>>14620774
It got new tires too but any car would need that.
>>
>>14620774
My current car is an 06 altima I've had since '10 and it has been in the shop once in that time for $450 in repairs. Is that abnormal?
>>
>>14620774
Not counting tires
>>
>>14620632
Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic. Get a set of snow tires, mandatory.

If you're willing to pay more, get any Subaru, but you MUST buy snow tires as well. AWD by itself doesn't help.
>>
>>14620798
A little. It probably needs suspension work. Bushings, strut tops, sway bar links, etc...
>>
>>14620817
I've only heard good things about subaru and I'm willing to pay for it. And I'm not going to only bank on AWD, I know snow tires are necessary. But which model makes the most sense for this?

They're all shit. If you get a good trim level or the optional engine they all have shitty CVTs. The Impreza (and Crosstrek) are gutless.
>>
>>14620823
I think the clutch is starting to slip a bit but I think besides that it seems to be in good shape. But I haven't looked really into it, nor do I know how to. But I'm looking to trade the car in at this point so I'm not all that worried about it I guess
>>
>>14620838
I wasn't not expecting problems. That's why a said less than 5k. You can get a perfect one for 3500-5k
>>
>>14620827
Oh, you replied. I didn't notice.

For comfort, a Legacy will do better than an Impreza. I guess the market in North America only has 2.5 models, so get one of those. Any turbo version will be more costly to maintain.
>>
>>14620827
impreza is the perfect car for what you described, but any model will fit the bill

>>14620845
Just fix it. 1k-1200 and your car is perfect

>>14620864
It's not perfect. It's slow at sea level and terrible at altitude.
>>
>>14620858
>>14620864
Honestly the legacy looks more attractive to me, I'm not trying to look like I'm the guy with a cool car. I've just heard that subaru has better cars for what I want. My main concern is that the car will have room and be able to handle in really bad weather, which is my main problem with my altima
>>

>It's not perfect
well, thats like, your opinion man

3:16 13 seconds to 60 at a mile above sea level.

>>14620887
snow tires and git gud.
>>
So it seems like the consensus is subaru legacy vs subaru impreza. What is the comparison between the two?
>>
>>14620940
Can't really say desu senpai. I only know that the Impreza is a little bit more plebeian spec than the Legacy; it was like that from the beggining.

Search for reviews and comparisons dude, there's the whole internet. Good luck.

Ford Ranger

It's pretty much the official hockey bro vehicle.

Using the whole interwebs is good advice to narrow it down. Thanks /o/

You missed the point

>3:16 13 seconds to 60
I have never driven the 2.0L model, I have a 2.5i 09, So I really cant say

>>14620887
>handle in really bad weather
I look forward to the bad weather days (not the crazy bad weather tho) once you get used to the handling its super fun
>>
>>14620751
What the hell do you mean effective? Is this just a way to justify wanting to look wealthier than you are? If my civic gets me to work in the same time as your 2014 shitheap, is it any less effective?

There are many ~20 year old civics getting around that have never had more than routine maintenance spent on then.
