The Golf GTI is worth getting because compared to its competition, it is more mature and comfortable.
The Golf R isn't worth getting because of the exact opposite reasons. The cars in this price range are expected to have that mature comfort, but then they get the power that you want. 300hp at this price point is abismal.
If you're spending $30k on a used vehicle, you can do MUCH better.

One reason above all is that mark 6 Golf came with faulty/born bad DSG transmission.
It is a known defect, if you buy a car with that transmission you can be 100% sure that at some point it will break.
Be prepared to pay $5-6000.
This is a top notch reason not to buy unreliable german shit, also lap times are for 12 years old people. Just buy what you like based on your feelings when driving the car.
