Civic is an economy car. you are literally throwing money at it to get mediocre power, it is an economy car and a terrible platform to do anything with. The fact of the matter is you are wasting your time and money it's a front wheel drive econo box with 2 feet of engine bay. There are literally thousands of better and cheaper options, with 4k and a sbc you could get 400hp easy hell if you do it right you could get a car and and engine for it for 4k and I am sure a lot of guys here could tell you a thousand other options to do if you don't want a v8.
And BTW his "opinion" is pretty much a fact the only people that do anything to civics is if they don't know shit about cars or they literally can't afford anything more then a civic and a cold air intake

Get a gt they aren't bad stock and doing some upgrades is easy you wouldn't have to change everything in it you could still use a lot of the stock components and not have to swap unless you really wanted to

ive owned several gt's. and if by easy to upgrade you mean having to replace the block if making any sort of real power and blowing up stock t5's with anything over stock power levels and the soft understeering you into a tree suspension but once you do all that its pretty good.

I like small cars more then sedan type cars. a silvia (s13) is probably largest I'd go sedan wise (they look smaller in real life then they do in pictures as well). mostly I just like the hatchback shape of cars
I only like the EK and EF civics though. EF is my favourite and what I'm looking at to buy, but I've read engine swapping them is harder unless it's already got non-carb engine.
Other hatchback I have in mind is a mirage ... which engine swap with 4g63 or 4g92 or something, and then can also turn into a 'cyborg' AWD mirage eventually but that would take a lot of time to do properly with my skills atm. even swapping the engine from reading seems like it can be hard compared to swapping a b16 or something in an ek civic. people turbo the 4g15 engines that come in them stock as well, which wouldn't be too difficult but I don't know how well they can go with that
KP60 Starlet is other car, which is RWD hatchback. but most of them are in pretty shitty condition being old and it would be hard to get it 'legal' here (since it only came stock with shitty engines, unlike civics which came with b16 so you can get them 'legal' without having to pay for a modplate). as well I think the KP60 would just go up in price, like the ae86s have... they're pretty cheap in new zealend to buy compared to an ae86, and can go just as good

Knew a guy who did they same thing op wants to do ,spent about 9k of his grandma's money on his 90s civic every single thing was replaced never got it dynod but "dude 250 hp to the wheels dude" beat him in my 149hp Ranger, friend embarrassed him in his 06 accord hybrid pretty much made a slightly faster civic, 3 months later he sold it for 6k and with all his grandma's money he could of went any other route but he went the civic route cause "dude it's so sick "
