Are rotary engines and pop up headlights in consumer cars unviable in today's auto market?
>>14611551
100% yes
popups are pointless wastes of money
rotaries are too unless its in some niche track car
>>14611551
Unfortunately yes, though I appreciate the throwback with the faux pop-up DRLs
>>14611566
>popups are pointless wastes of money
But they look cool, and that's all that matters, even if they fuck the aerodynamics.
>>14611593
they ruin the looks of the car while adding unnecessary complication and weight
they only look cool to underage kids
>>14611593
They'd looking fucking terrible on any modern car barring maybe the ND.
ya
>>14611551
I hope those eyelid things end up doing something on the production model. Maybe slide back and recess into the hood?
>>14611658
those wont even make it into production most likely
this render gets good idea of what to expect imo
>>14611679
>hood that long
>to hold a twin rotor
Is there going to be a trunk in front of it or something?
>>14612069
They want you to put as many rotors in there as possible.
>>14612082
12 rotor maybe?
>pull out of driveway
>out of gas
>overheated
>hole in ozone layer
>>14611679
>those windows
>>14612423
I really hope Mazda doesn't go full Chevy Camaro retard levels of visibility . . . . c'mon, your current de facto halo car is a friggen convertible.
>implying a new RX will ever see the light of day
>>14611551
Americans made the rotary good so its probably viable again
>>14612447
I mean, they're already used in UAVs and aircraft and snowmobiles . . . .
>>14612446
What are you talking about? It already happened.
Mazda isnt a big company like toyota or gm or ford etc. They dont have the money to make concepts to just show off and leave it at that. It will have to go somewhere...
>>14612473
hey now
>>14611551
I would go into a lot of debt for a new rotary engined car with popups. Unfortunately it's unlikely that one will ever exist again. If I could get an FD in like-new condition for under $20k I might but they're all either much more than that, trashed riceboxes, or don't have an engine/have an LS.
>>14612617
Same, I just wish that emissions and safety regs could disappear for a year and car companies could remake all their cars. I would dish out the 50K+ for a factory new FD.
>>14612617
>mfw
You can't have pop-ups any more because of laws that have to do with pedestrian safety
>>14612069
theyre shortening the hood you know
>>14612866
But is there some other method of moveable headlights which don't have safety concerns?
>>14611619
>underage kids
>only people 25+ remember or care about them
>>14611679
they could probably do something that imitates the 'popup' effect
>>14611551
Not to me.
Looks better than 100% of the soulless soap bars that everyone keeps pumping out.
>>14611551
Rotaries no, considering mazda was still making them in the last decade
Popups yes, they are out of style, affects mpg, and I'm not 100% sure this is true but they are banned due to safety laws
>>14616159
I don't think they're explicitly banned, so much as extremely difficult and a waste of money to pull off with current pedestrian safety laws.
>>14612090
10/10
>>14616173
This is correct. Also, it really wouldn't work with a modern design. Not to mention even back then it only looked good on a few cars, mostly super sports. On shitboxes it looked ...well, shit. With a few exceptions of course. Miata and aw11 pulled it off nicely.
can't sell rotaries, they don't meet MPG or emission requirements anymore due to oil burning
I kind of want to see fwd ANGRY MODERN COROLLA racing the RX Vision concept down Akina
popup headlights were a product of the era they were found in. There was no other way to keep the headlights within the limits allowed by regulations without raising the hood and front bumper to modern-tier retard levels. There was no such thing as low-profile LED headlights in the 80s. Now that regulations dictate such high bumpers and lights themselves have been made smaller, there is no other reason for popups than nostalgia factor.
I still like them, though.

Mazda has been spending ressources on rotary development to this day. If they say they're planning on selling a new rotary sports car you would think they've figured out a way to sell them.
