Is there any reason not to cop? Apart from the body looking like a civic.

What else should I look at, if I'm looking for a new ricerocket around 30k? I drove the golf gti yesterday and it was utter garbage.

is that 0.2 seconds and pigfat worth 5000 bucks? BRZ is your answer my boy
>>
Where are you located m8?

Off the top of my head: Golf R, Focus RS, a45 AMG, M235, 135i, and possibly the Fiesta ST might all be better choices, depending on what you're looking for.
>>
Maybe an older model?
>>
>>14609934
shut up and buy a cheap civic.
>>
>>14609946
I would, but one of my close buddies own a 15 FR-S. I'd feel like a goon getting the same car as him, you know?

>>14609954
Canada. I'd rather avoid domestics but I'll look into some of those euros, thanks.
>>
>>14609946
Looooool BRZ doesn't even compare.

But either way I wouldn't buy a modern Subaru. I've been working for Subaru in a parts warehouse for shipping and receiving since '05. Back then, we used to send out cosmetic parts primarily. Our transmissions, headers, manifolds, and other large parts would sit on our shelves so long that we had to send loads back whenever changes to a model came around.

That changed a couple years ago. Since about late 2012, we've seen a MASSIVE spike for almost all major engine components. We are now moving more transmissions per month than we used to in a year. Same goes for turbo'd and suspension parts. I don't know what happened to Subaru tier reliability, but it sure as hell went out the window.

Don't sleep on the domestics m8, they're pretty brilliant.

If you can find it, a used CTS-V would be the tits.

Just bad experience. Had both a Rendezvous and SRX fall apart within a few years of being new (in my family, not me). I haven't really known anyone with a sporty domestic though. Maybe I'll go have a look today, thanks anon.
>>
>>14610014
Quality has skyrocketed in american autos in the past 5 years or so, depreciation hasn't caught up with the reliability or quality yet so they can be found pretty cheap still.
>>
>>14609980
That's when Subaru got popular.
>>
>>14609972
Out of those cars, I'd choose the Focus RS or M235i. However those are both more than $30k (you're looking at around $45-55k Canadian depending on options).

The main reasons are insurance and getting boyraced at every stoplight, if those aren't a problem for you go ahead
>>
Insurance is probably the worst thing going for it. I love the new WRX but I cant help but imagine how much better the STI version will be when they finally update the motor. If your price range is 30k and you can afford the insurance get the WRX. If your budget it 40 wait for them to update the STI
>>
>>14610382
I hope they, never update the STi. EJ or bust. Love the look/ sound of ejs. Guck the new motor it's ass and fuck you. STI is plenty fast out of the box fuck it needs a new motor for fuck you
>>
>>14610382
You're an idiot
>>
>>14609934
Why is it so slow? $30k will easily get you into the 400+ hp range and 4.x 0-60s.
>>
>>14610447
Post some examples?

I'm in the same boat as OP. I have a hard 30k budget and I want a fast car. I don't know shit about cars, someone direct me.
>>
>>14610012
Lpok at the tread wear rating bro. The wrx fucking dominates the frs unless you pit racing tires on the frs and some used bald tires with wires showing on the wrx.

What this graph shows is that the frs/brz is fucking garbage and must have an unfair advantage and modifications to even remain competitive with base model cars on stock equipment.
>>
>>14610457

See >>14609954

If you're looking for used cheap speed: E90/92 M3s are about that price range now, whatever Porsche's (2007/8 Cayman maybe?) are about that price now, Z06 Corvette, CTS-V etc.
>>
>>14610457
Virtually anything domestic will suffice.

My STI was 32k new and intake, exhaust, tune (2.5k dollars later) she does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. And she sits 5, has awd and tons of cargo space..

Subaru tax, econobox interior, yadayada, they do hold value fairly well.

If you want new under 30k you're pretty much considering the Ford STs or Boostang, the Mustang GT, the WRX, a toyobaru, or Miata.

Or something more expensive that has depreciated to your budget from use.

What if I want a solid base car that can be used for upgrades. I don't want to be that dude who upgrades a Honda Civic im not in highschool anymore. WRX is a good starting point for that is it not?
>>
>>14609934
pigfat as fuck, overpriced
>>
>>14610608
It's ok. Like the others have stated here, you're going to get boy raced at every stop light. Not to mention the new WRX uses the FA20 engine which hasn't been out nearly as long, and has a smaller aftermarket than for the traditional EJ257 engine still found in the STI variant.

It's a super popular platform so you should have no problem tuning it, but this goes for most of the modern hot econoboxes now.

Can you tune a FA20 to 400hp if you want to spend enough money, or will it blow up
>>
>>14610721
Just some basic googling revealed that it's not going to be a fun time getting 400awhp out of it. Seems like you're looking at around $10k-$12k to do it right, and that's just parts.
>>
>>14610745
Also, a 400+awhp subaru would be a terrible daily driver.

What are some options that have more tunability than the WRX, I'm not opposed to buying used to stay in budget if its something that has more potential. Not domestic, 4cyl or 6cyl turbo.

>>
>>14610012
Haha, someone doesn't know how to read the table! If you had any idea what those stats meant you wouldn't have used it to try to prove the BRZ is comparable.
>>
>>14610402
Hold on to that hope. I hope you never procreate.

The motor is shit by todays standards and it was stupid to begin with. Why was the car that used rally racing to sell the car have a non legal size motor for the sport. The US spec STI is a phoney. Buying an STI just gives Japan a reason to laugh at Americans. Ha ha ha look at those stupid Americans with their inefficient laggy pig motors. Theyll buy anything.
>>
It appears the new Subaru WRX is simply a Corolla with AWD. Especially more so than ever before, considering Subaru introduced it with a new CVT option, aside from all the design changes that took the soul out of this car. Essentially, this will be a commuter car for inclement weather regions.
At least that's where Subaru appears to be heading with this.
>>
>>14610524
You're so stupid it's incomprehensible. Stay mad that a v6 stang AND camaro smoke its competition
>>
>>14612804
Why do Americans behave in such a querulous temper when someone says they don't like to drive American cars? It's quite pathetic to see.
>>

>>
>>14612834

>>
The newest gen of imprezas are ugly as sin.
>>
>>14609980
subaru has had more year on year growth than most car companies in the United states over the last 5 years or so, i think it was like 2014 when they sold the most amount of cars ever. Its not surprising that more parts are going out. I wouldn't go on that as indicator alone.
>>
>>14612853
They have decent performance, and they're cheap. But, from my experience, they have a tendency to start incurring major repairs riiiight as the warranty (100k usually) wraps up.
>>
>>14612683
You don't have to get CVT. It's like a corolla with a slightly better engineered engine, factory turbo, AWD, and race suspension.

On a side note, how the hell does Subaru run 18psi on that turbo? Most aftermarket turbos (afaik) are like 4-8psi. That seems insanely high.
>>
>>14612878
Tru. WRX is detached from impreza now though, it's its own model.

I thought around 18psi is normal?

My 1986 Saab 900 tops out at 18psi on the ancient garret non-water cooled turbo.
>>

>What else should I look at, if I'm looking for a new ricerocket around 30k
Nothing. This is the best ricerocket out of new $30k ricerockets. Huge aftermarket support too and enough cheap bolt-on options to bankrupt Bill Gates if he tried to go through it all.
>>
>>14614605
>>14614634

Boost pressure does not dictate performance. Flow does.

Larger turbos flow more air for a given boost pressure.

A stock WRX turbo at 18 PSI is not the same thing as a GT28 on the same motor pushing 18psi
