my Father is stocking up on cars at our home in france. i wont get too deep into the details but we're getting a decent collection
one of the cars he wants to get is a 911, but he wants to spend >20,000 euros and its got to be a convertible.
he found a 99' 996 convertible for 20,000 and i found a 84' 964 converibtle for 17,000. i dont have a link to the 996, but hes the 964

okay, but whats the deal with servicing on a 964? my brother is an engineer, i'm an apprentice mechanic and we have a complete machine shop at our estate. neither of us know shit about electronics but we're good with mechanics.

The 964 was Porsche's first all-new 911 in more than 20 years. It was actually a more dramatic departure, engineering-wise, than the 996 was from the 993. It's not the "same deal."
The SC or 3.2 cars are wonderful. They're a bit pricey at least in the U.S. thanks to the bubble, but they are expected to hold their value.
That said, the 996 will have fewer problems, more comfort and convenience, and significantly more performance potential than one of these. Have your dad drive both and see which one he likes more.
