Thinking about driving big rigs when I get out of high school. Looks like they make good money with benefits if you do OTR, whihc I want to. What am I getting myself into?

Also, getting a Class A right out of high school will be tough because most companies want you to be 21 or 23 to drive their trucks because of insurance regs and shit. It is hard to find decent jobs under 21. And I think basically anything interstate is 21+.

It isn't just interstate. Even local companies rarely hire under 21 or 23. It's all because of their insurance policies. Costs a shit ton to insure an 18 year old driving a commercial truck.
Go get some computer certifications or something instead. Driving trucks isn't that great. Most of is are only doing it because we fucked up earlier in life.

Also there is the pay situation.
OTR company drivers make like $35k-$45k a year. Which isn't shit for having to live in a damn truck. You can make $40k-$50k doing bullshit local jobs like me but it is bust ass work. Eventually you can get on a fuel tanker or something decent local and try to make like $60k, but it will take years to get there and you will still work a shit ton of hours.
Only real way to make good money is owning your own truck. And even then if you want to make real money, you are still living in a truck.

I like driving too which is why I ended up doing it. Wanted to be a pilot but fucked that up early. But then you will figure out driving isn't all that it's cracked up to be. There is a lot of other stress and bullshit that comes with it and the money isn't always worth it.
You got a couple years before you can really do it anyway. You should seriously try and get some trade school or community college shit in first. If you still hate those paths by the time you are 22, go get a CDL. There are lots of other career fields with more room for growth and promotions compared to trucking.
