So they had to buy old cars and have the family fix them up...
One family member would repaint it, another would fix the interior... this made them stand out compared to other cars on the road as they were fixed up with creativity rather than factory parts.
These fixed up mexican cars often were filled with too many people as they had large families making them sit low to the ground.
People made fun of this..
But Mexican people were like 'you know what I am proud to be mexican, I am proud to make due of what I have and have a fixed up old car that sits low to the ground'
So they started lowering the cars with sand bags and chopped springs just to show society that they aren't ashamed and are actually proud.
This became a trend and eventually the idea of fitting hydraulics to raise the car when needed came along...
