Nothing.

It's arguably one of the best supercars made in the last few decades. It's fast, it's rare, it fun to drive, it looks exotic, and (unlike most supercars) it was raced and was fairly successful at it.
>>
>>14578403
Ugly and sounds like a crying baby. Other than that it's decent

the designer was high on brake dust. otherwise not much.

any AMG V8 Biturbo, really. fuck V10s.

so much that it lost money with every sale

If I was going to go apeshit and joyride in a car, it'd have to be the LFA.
>>
I don't get why people like the sound. It sounds like a lazy f1 engine that couldn't make the cut.

The only thing wrong about it to me is the price.

We cant have it all in life :(
>>
>>14578729
3200lbs isn't lightweight.
560hp was a lot of power in the early 2000's, but it isn't anymore.
A DOHC V10 isn't compact.
>>
>auto
>>
>>14578736

>3200lbs isn't light weight

Guess no Corvettes are light weight
Guess most 911's other then the first aren't light weight
Guess no Ferrari's are light weight.

Most sports cars are on the 3200 mark, they aren't fucking miata's and fwd ecocars.
>>
>>14578751
All of thosea re sportscars, but they aren't lightweight sportscars.
>>
>>14578403
This car sounds annoying and whiney as fuck. Clarkson said it sounded something like a dying animal
>>
>>14578772
He meant that in a good way though, he was referring to the induction whine.

Do you stupid fucknugget know that LFA's V10 is sized like a V8 and weights like a V6?
>>
>>14578762

So what is a lightweight sports car.

Cause seems to be only light weight sports car is miata, FRS, And the lotus (even the new lotus evora weighs 3200)
>>
>>14578788
compared to american engines maybe
>>
>>14578861

Yes compared to american engines, because the america LS is one of the smallest v8's
>>
>>14578793
Lightweight is below 3200 lbs.
Between 3200 and 3600 is regular sportscar
Above 3800is fat, above 4000 is pigfat.

>>14578788
It is pretty light, but I'm having a hard time believing that it's going to be smaller then the F136 used in the 458. Similar displacement, similar if not more power, but I doubt it'll be smaller. 5 88mm bores (LFA) should be bigger than 4 94mm bores (458), 440 total bore spacing versus 376 respectively. Maybe, just maybe the V10 is narrower thanks to that 72 degree bank angle, and they'll probably be just as high given the similar stroke, but it's sure as hell going to be longer, and that's a pain in the butt as far as packaging is concerned.

>>14578861
Actually, American all-aluminium engines are pretty damn compact and lightweight, because of their pushrod valvetrain layout.

They are. Doesn't mean that's a bad thing, but they are pigfat.
>>
>>14578403
Took too long and too much money to come to fruition. The japs aren't good and making supercars. See how long it took for the new nsx.
>>
>>14579173

>Everything but economy cars and 2 or 3 cars are pigfat

no thats stupid.
>>
>>14578686
This. It was double what competing cars were, so it naturally got put up a couple of brackets, where it was outmatched.

It's in the tier of the 458, Aventador and maybe like the GT3RS (that might be a stretch) but it costed 1/3 more than the Ferrari, 1/8 more than the LP700 (750?) And it was arguably worse in every way, from the benchracing to the track.

Don't get me wrong, that red line and that v10 put it in my top 10 cars, but I can see why it wasn't a big success. Didn't even have cup holders.

What went wrong...
- The transmission: It's a single-clutch auto.
- The price: $375,000
- The contract: Lexus made buyers sign a Ferrari-like contract limiting their rights to modify or resell the car.
>>
>>14579297
>limiting their rights to modify or resell the car.
Only in the US and only for the first year of ownership to stop people flipping them
>>
>>14578403
It's plain.

A supercar with a supercar price should not look like one step above a Scion.
>>
>>14579297
>single-clutch
>auto

And with that, you lose all credibility in all things automotive.
>>
>>14578890
>P R N D
>>
>>14579347
he meant semi-auto (paddles) you faggot, those things have clutches, but usually twin or triple plate
>>
Three times the price of the GTR and just barely out performs it in a few metrics.

They only made so many.
>>
Problem is the price itself; nstead of going with the 3UR-FE, they went for some experimental engine and transmission.

Why did Toyota spent so much money carbon fiber? they would have been better with aluminum
>>
>>14578686
>Price

Not really an issue for a limited production sportscar. It's pretty much guaranteed appreciate in value on the collectors' market.
>>
>>14579409
Toyoda-san wanted it that way.

They had finished the car in aluminium. Then he comes in and said to remake it carbon.
>>
>>14579409
>Why did Toyota spent so much money carbon fibre
tech demo of their loom system
>they would have been better with aluminium
aluminium is old hat
>some experimental engine and transmission.
>experimental chassis
>normal engine
who would buy that
>>
>>14579391
>semi-auto (paddles)

That's not what you call a sequential manual, dummy.
>>
>>14579424
I will never understand why they decided to pick the most complicated carbon making loom methods

>>14579431
The chassis would have been fine if done in aluminum mounted on a well known engine
>>
>>14579439
It was an Engineering Exercise that they sold some copies of at a loss. It doesn't have to make sense. It just have to be an awesome car.

The problem is that the Nissan GTR is just as awesome. While being less expensive, made of common materials, and more practical.
>>
>>14579439
they wanted to up their game to another level not just wallow in mediocrity and output a car that pretty much any company can build
>>
>>14579391
>>14579433
Paddles (DCT or not) are automatic and nothing more, will you tards stop trying to overcomplicate thubgs
>>
>>14579474
Things. Fuck.
>>
>>14579474
When talking in the context of transmission "automatic" implies the use of a torque converter.
>>
>>14579519
>torque converter
m8 that's an automatic clutch
>>
>>14579519
No it doesn't, not in the modern world. That's why people refer to some transmissions as semi-auto even though they are still very much auto
>>
>>14579526
>automatic clutch
Nobody in the industry calls a torque converter that. A mechanical clutch and TC are fundamentally different.
>>
Considering it's the antithesis to bench racing, I'd say nothing.
>>
>>14579534

There is a big difference between a sequential manual and an automatic with a manual mode. One has a clutch, the other has a torque converter.
>>
Theres nothing wrong with it. It was what the designers wanted it to be and its great. Just because its not the fastest or highest HP doesnt mean its not a great car.
>>
>>14578403
Litreally fucking nothing. Stop spreading shit around by asking shit questions. The LFA is the greatest supercar ever mad and Toyota itself cannot make an another one greater than that.
