Alright, what do I need to get to read the error codes on an ABS system?

It came on after I was washing the shit out of my undercarriage and I thought it would dry out and go off, but now it's 2 days later and it's back on. Haven't checked fuses yet but let's assume I have. it went off a day later than came back on.

'05 Focus.

Pull out ABS-connections, blow clean and spray some WD40 in them. Let dry before reconnecting

A factory computer tool, or one of those ones garages buy because they're poor and don't actually care about your car.

Your alternator is dying. My car did the exact same thing just prior to it giving out for good.|

When it gets dark out, start up your car, turn on your radio, all of your lights, including inside. After that turn your AC on to full, if the lights dim it's for sure your alternator.
>>
>ABS
Thank the god of automobiles that he decided to smite your ABS.
>>
>>14555381
I've driven it at night with the compressor, fan on high, rear defroster, headlights, and radio all on, never had a problem.
>>
>>14555610
>I've driven
Have you done it since this started happening?

Have you turned the A/C after you had the lights on? Do it in that order, don't be a bitch. It's better to test it under control then go off your faggot ass memory.

>>
>>14555381
Absolutely horrible advice.
>>
>>14555790
It's not horrible. If his lights dim, it means he isn't putting out enough amps on his alternator. Which means it's about to die.
>>
>>14555381
What? No..

You probably just knocked something loose. Check/clean the abs sensor connections.
>>
>>14555850
Or, you know, he's adding an electrical load to the electrical system.
>>
>>14555850
You're not basing this on anything but assumptions. OP needs to do an actual diagnosis. Ergo, it's horrible advice.
>>
>>14555862
No amount of electrical load on the car(factory electronics) will be enough to dim lights if the alternator is working properly.

>>14555863
There is no assumption, if his lights dim once he turns on the A/C he isn't getting enough amps. At idle speeds there should be no dimming on all factory equipment.

Either his alternator is dying or there is a huge power draw fucking it up.

When the last alternator went out in my vehicle the first thing that would come on was the ABS light, for a few days at that, then lights dimming while driving with no additional load. And then the car not being able to start at all.
>>
>>14555878
Nothing you say is true. Inrush current pretty much guarantees a dimming. Also the AC compressor isn't driven electrically.
>>
>>14555921
>the compressor isn't driven
The blower is though you faggot.
>>
>>14555664
You are an angry helpful person.
>allow me to hold the door for you,WHORE!
>>
>>14555974
>The blower is though you faggot.
It draws a constant amount of current outside of inrush.
>>
>>14555974
You mean the same blower that I can just turn on high and will draw the same amount of current of the compressor is on or not? I've had that on high on the way home.
>>
>>14556189
Except it won't. Turning on the A/C causes a draw on the serp belt, this draw causes a friction drop on the other pullies, meaning the alternator will not be spinning at the rpm range you expect it to be.

Meaning, that you probably need to replace your belt for 1, but your alternator is bad and not providing it's amps under system load.
>>

The ABS System light being on in Ford's usually it means it is disabled. When a fault is detected, ABS gets disabled to prevent shit from happening.

Ignore, the light and just bust hectic skids everywhere. Just be aware that ABS is disabled, and will not save you. Live dangerously, my friend. No need to worry as long as you aren't a woman who slams the brakes.

Either a really nice OBDII code scanner, or a factory scan tool like pic related
>>

That's not a factory scan tool.
>>
>>14555878
You need to go lay down. You're wrong. Stop.

>>14557452
There is nothing wrong with that, It's a fact if you apply to much power draw to the alternator others will stop or not work.

Faggot tripfag. No surprise you are wrong.

the autel system is a factory level scan tool.....

Remove your god damn trip, ABS lights coming on for no apparent reason, or flickering is a well known cause of Alternator failure in many vehicles.

>>14557496
radio will turn off, lights will dim, that sort of stuff.
>>
>>14557503
It likely cannot and, if it did, that wouldn't make it a factory scan tool. Stop arguing for your boyfriend, now.
>>
>>14557504

You have no fucking idea what the reason could be. You aren't there.

How are you defining 'flickering'? Who said ANYTHING about flickering besides you?

Seeing as it actual does more than a Mercedes STAR computer can do, in a much nicer package, I would say it's better than a factory scan tool
>>
>>14557525
You can say that, but you can't say it is one.

I find that very hard to believe, however.
>>
>>14557561
Fine, it's a 'factory level' level scan tool, if that triggers your autism less

And you can find it hard to believe, but it's true. I've used a Mercedes STAR system, plus several other factory level scan tools like Snap-ons version of the Autel system. I would take the Maxisys tablet over any actual manufacturer's system I have ever had to deal with

Or dealership switched over to these tablets because of how nice they are, and how drastically it reduced the amount of shit we had to send off lot to actual dealerships (basically just recall repairs now)

Plus, you have a fully functional android tablet underneath, that you can pull up alldata/chrome/whatever you need to do.

Hell, I have used it to clone/copy smart keys for several friends and family members now.

>And you can find it hard to believe, but it's true.
Can you prove that? Can you prove your 3rd party computer tool is more capable than the factory one? Not prettier, not more user friendly, but more capable?
>>
>>14557732
shop fag her, but he is right. shops get systems like that because they do everything, and more often than not more, than a dealer scan tool can do at a fraction of the price.

like everything else dealership related, you are paying a premium for the name on case, not the actual capability. you can take a tablet like that and actual look at real time data as you drive the car, which is something you can't do with most dealership scan tools.

Compressor on, internal lights on, external lights on, compressor on, rear defroster on, BOTH seat warmers on, radio blasting eurobeat, no ABS light. I know my alternator is working but I loaded my alternator anyway just to prove that that is stupid advice because my belt tensioner needs to be replaced cause when the crankshaft pully gets soaked it slips completely loose and that's when everything gets really dim trying to run off battery.

And it didn't come on at all today. I'm gonna just disconnect and clean out the contacts for the wheel speed sensors.
>>
>>14557747
You're wrong, though. I can't help but think you're confusing scanners with computer tools. They're meant to come together, as a kit.

>>

>>14555262
Ignore all this damn bickering.

As a fellow 05 Focus owner I can say that it is in all likelihood a loose cable or broken plastic clip the PO broke when removing a connector somewhere if you bought it used.

It COULD be an alternator but your charging/battery light would probably be coming on then. I had to replace mine due to the battery light not ABS. I did not get any ABS lights..probably due to ABS not..existing on my car. So while I won't say it's not the alternator, it's PROBABLY not. I don't think it's a common issue on these cars but maybe it is, I blame my specific case on the doofus PO hooking up his negrotastic sound system and overloading the rated current of the alternator and frying something internal.

Seriously, it's a Ford. We have two first gen Focii. It's a cheap car. It's probably a connector somewhere or a sensor shitting out. Check out everything that goes to that system before you start throwing too much money into it. Great cars but they are truly cheap cars. Lovable? Yes. Reliable? Sure. Overbuilt? Never. But that's why we love them.

>>14560631
Good. Until you check that and verify that the problem is persistent that will be my current prescription.

>>14557423
Technically the ABS code resides elsewhere than the OBD system, I believe. Doesn't the OBD system really only provide fault codes for the CEL? Not that ABS doesn't provide a different readable fault code, just that it technically isn't under OBD.....Right?

To be honest on that one I'm just parroting what I've read but it makes sense to me.
>>
>>14562470
No, ABS codes are not part of the OBD standard.
