Bought a '94 Caprice 9C1 edition for $1400. Runs awesome, just needs a new windshield because a tree branch fell and cracked it. Previous owner installed remote electric locks and trunk button, installed export German t84 headlights, and a rear axle from an Impala ss. Plus the spotlight works.

d-did I do good, /o/?

Also, Caprice thread I guess. I want some ideas on things to with it once I start working on it.

Swap in a manual transmission like that guy did to his Roadmaster on Regular Cars.

Alternately, repaint it and make it look as much like a police as you can.
>>
>>14548899
I am considering it honestly, I saw that video as well. Just need to track down the appropriate transmission.

I wanna keep it goldish though, it matches my bro's Buick that we are also working on right now. Pic related. Gonna try to race them once they are both on the road.

You did good.

Only thing I'd jump on is that rust. Sand it out and prime it if you have to for the time being. Just don't let it get any worse.
>>
>>14548879
Good shit, my dad had a 93 LTZ and he sold it about 10 years ago, what's the odo at?
>>
>>14549152
Yeah, the under body is alright as it is, the previous owner has been getting it undercoated. but the rust spots on the body are definitely high priority when I start working on it.

In general, how much would getting a new coat of paint cost? Some parts of the car paint are pretty faded. I just want to make it nice and shiny again.
>>
>>14549168
Just over 206,000. But the guy I'm buying it from used it for work and needed it to be in top shape so he took good care of it.

More than you can afford pal.

No, seriously though. For a halfway decent paintjob, you'll be spending more than you did on the car itself. I'd look into a DIY roll on paintjob. That's what I'll be doing to my Vic this spring.

Unless you really have dreams of keeping this car forever and building it into something super special, just enjoy the cheap shitbox barge life for what it is. Never put more money into it than you'll get out of it.

>Unless you really have dreams of keeping this car forever and building it into something super special.

Somewhat true. I plan on just riding it out, putting come change into it here and there while I'm still in college. But once I graduate I'm either gonna put some real cash in it, or pull the LT1 engine and tranny, get it rebuilt and drop it in something else. not sure, gotta see how the cards play out.

Might just be a challenge to not blow out the engine doing sick burnouts and shit...
>>
You should get a trunk spoiler from an impala and put it on. It really makes the rear end look less bulbous.

Protip, check the window rollers if you're bored and change them if they're very worn. They can break and cause your window to break.

Good buy though. I love 91-96 caprices and have a 95 impala as my daily currently.

If its just rust spots and minor touch ups, see if a local paint shop can mix up a spray can version of your paint based on your paint code, sand and primer the spots, apply paint and a couple layers of clear coat, wet sand with 2000, then polish the whole car.

Lots of work, but for like 200-300 bucks with all the supplies involved, it will likely produce alright results.

I was considering putting something on the back, I got some wings I pulled off a junkyard limo a few years ago. Pic related. I painted it white and put it on my shitty impala because I was bored, but I could repaint it and use it to cover the antenna hole on the trunk of my caprice.

The owner is throwing in some new window motors, he was gonna do them himself before the tree branch fell on the windows, so that was a score as well.

The guy I got it from babied it, it's already worse than when I got it a couple few months ago. Pic related is the reason I bought it
>>
>>14549369

If I recall correctly plugs are made to cover antenna holes left by police equipment, but most departments don't bother buying them because they don't care about the car once they don't own it.

Also, if you ever need to know how to do anything on the car, the impala ss forum is a great resource for these cars. Someone on there has probably had the same issue you had with it and someone else has told them how to fix it.

And anon, please don't molest the car. It's hard enough to find them in running condition and not with some hood fixes on everything and riding on 26" wykked sykk rims.
>>
>>14549496
damn that's clean! how do you do it?
>>
>>14549502
Bought it like that, just spray it down every once in a while
>>
>>14549500
Oh god no, dont worry. I plan to keep this car as sensible as possible. I prefer the sleeper look to the hood bullshit anyway.

>>14549510
what do you use?
>>
>>14549527
Just a pressure washer so far. If it's actually dirty though I'd get at it with degreaser first.
>>
>>14549542

You can't really do that to OP's car though. 94-96 caprices used the LT1 motor that had the optispark system, which absolutely hates water. Some cars will refuse to run in the rain if there sealing around the opti is fucked enough. If OP wants to clean his engine bay just use damp or soapy towels and degreaser. Don't try an pressure wash or hose it out.
