I've been wanting to buy an ae86 for a while now, and being that my shitbox is on its way out, I'm thinking I should start looking. What would be a reasonable price for an ae86 hatchback in good condition? 10k?

The one I'm looking at is going for 14k, but I talked the owner down to 12k. It's fully restored, but it's like a 5 hour drive. As long as I'm driving away in it I don't care, but would 12k be a little too much?
>>
>>14546816
Is it the one in Lancaster, PA? It looks good, but it is the only one I could find. Supply and demand yo. He's supplying it, you demand it, he sets whatever price.
>>
>>14546816
Also, consider every other car you can get fr 12,000. That money can buy a lot of better cars. Shit, you could three excellent condition moat as for that. Just some perspective.
>>
>>14546829
Fucking apple products suck. *for, *miatas
>>
>>14546816
If you want an 86 that's not a bad price, but >>14546829 puts a good point in if there's any doubt
>>
If you truly love the Hachiroku that much we arnt gonna stop you but like the other anon stated, consider the others you could buy for cheaper, tune up and pay for repairs with that kind of money
>>
>>14546823
Yea, it's the one in Lancaster. It's pretty far from me, so I'm wondering if I should just wait and see what I can get closer to me. I've seen them go for 10k in restored condition, so I guess I'll give it a little time.
>>
>>14546876
I think that we,re getting to that point in time that AE86s are becoming quite rare. If you want one, better get one quick. But who knows, a lot of people might be waiting for spring or summer to sell.
>>
I passed on an $8k, 60,000 mile 08 Volvo S60R and a new $22k FRS for an AE86. Felt like I would've kicked myself in the balls if they went up in price in 5 years. Picked it up for $6700. Don't regret it, but it is a maintenance hassle at times. Probably less so than many other 30 year old cars, but I have put probably $1500 in upgrades and maintenance over 2 years.

$12k should get you something in great condition. That's about right for a full restoration.
>>
>>14546889
>enance hassle at times. Probably less so than many other 30 year old cars, but I have put probably $1500 in upgrades and maintenance over 2 years.
Yea that's another thing I was considering. Winter's ending, so I might see more pop up. Maybe more restored ones.
>>14546906
That's one of the reasons why I want an ae86 so much. It feels like the last reasonable chance to get my dream car for a relatively affordable price.
>>
>>14546921
East Coast is iffy for 86s. Not a whole lot of them left out there compared to the west. Don't wait too long in hopes of something better, or you might end up shopping in California.
>>
>>14546921
Hop to it bro. Offer him as low as possible, maybe if you're qt3.14 you can offer him some ass for a lower price. Seize the day, fggt.
>>
Well, at the very least if you don't end up enjoying it they hold their value pretty damn well. I'd spring for it if you really do want the 86 experience. The risk isn't as bad as most cars.
>>
>>14546816
10k for an ae86 is just ridiculous

if you want it for a legit collector car then alright, but if you just want to do skid or race around in then buying something like that for that price is stupid

they're alright cars but they're not great compared to other cars (with both 20v and 16v 4age). especially at 10k that you're spending on one

here in australia it's the same because there's not that many. people try to sell for 15k and stuff. while you can buy a skyline or silvia for 3-5k, or a civic or integra for 2-3k, or even for something to just do skids in then a commodore/falcon for 1-2k

>>14546816

I see AE86's for sale occasionally in scattered parts of the country. They're either pristine and cost about what the current one you have listed are going for or are skidded to hell and back rollers, some with s13 motors in them.

Best of luck getting one.

I miss GA so much. Nearly every person I've met from MD is a straight up entitled asshole.
>oh I live in Maryland, I'm the jewel of the east
No, you're an entitled fucking bitch, your government is shit, your infrastructure is shit, Baltimore is Detroit 2.0 and your rednecks are fucking astoundingly stupid. I hope this whole state overdoses on cheap heroin.

The 86 you want never came out in the states, unless it's an imported car you're talking about

Is that a game? If so i love the art style

>>14551079
Go away, RCR. The only difference is an AFM sensor vs MAP, emissions equipment and LHD. In every other way, the US corolla gts is a GT Apex trim sprinter trueno.

You can go out and buy one for about 8k€ right now, there's at least 15 Corolla GTI for sale right now for varying prices (8 - 20k€).

>>14552375
And about five of them are in Portugal. Almost splurged for one of them, it looks like pure sex, but decided against it, since I most definitely want a red panda trueno. It's pristine too, but I want at least some stuff to fix on it.
>>
>tfw you can get a rust free clean ae86 for $5500 CAD ($4000 US) http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/pml/cto/5434819211.html

Also, 1uzs are nice, but taking out the 4age kind of kills the car imo.
>>
>>14565082
That's how I feel about my supra. All of my friends keep telling me to go 7m/1j/2j/1uz etc but I like the idea of keeping the 5m.

>It's pristine too, but I want at least some stuff to fix on it.

Yeah, nah, don't worry about that. You'll always have some shit to fix on them. Wouldn't get that black one though. That red reupholstered interior is kind of gross.

Where is the price listed?

Great link. It requires an account, and the previous listings show nothing for AE86s

I bought one two years ago. They are very slow. Even on the stock suspension auto Trans and 4ac, they are still immensely fun to drive. I've taken mine ice racing and through a time/distance/speed rally on gravel, and even to a few drift practices. I bought mine for 3000 and it came with a 5 speed trans and two 4age's, one in fair condition that hasn't run in a while and one pulled out running fine. It's a lot of money to not really make that much power. You could put another engine in it and make more power, but imo if you're going to do that you'd be off buying a car with more power in the first place. All that being said. Patience and elbow grease might yield you a better deal down the road. I'm about 4000 into mods in mine, so 7k all told. And I might make 130hp. Just be sure you know what you're getting yourself into. Are there any engine mods or suspension mods to the one you're looking at?

>spending 5 figures on a 30 year old Corolla shit box just because it was in a Chinese cartoon
>>
>>14556179
Auction starting prices are usually absolutely no indicator of how much they end up going for. Good Truenos are starting to nudge the $18k US mark, Levins go for a little bit less and the hatches go for more than notchbacks. One with about 25,000km on it, sat in storage for years upon years in Japan, went for $37,800 AUD (probably about $30k US) at auction. The only place they are cheap is the United States these days.
>>
>>14546816
What shitbox you got OP?
>>
>>14566208
I know, right?
Saw one in amazing condition, but I just can't bring myself to spend 18k€ including shipping for one. 12k would be a good price for it.
>>
>>14566187
>5 figures
the most expensive 86 around me (europe) is 7500€.
>>
>>14566208
That's really stupid. Look around the Pacific Northwest, especially Seattle and Vancouver BC, and there are a few for sale. Only problem there is serious rust, so keep an eye out.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/mob/5471041547.html
Kind of ugly imo, but seems to be OK condishun
>>
>>14546816
One recently sold on craigslist near me for 5k USD that only needed a new coat of paint basically, tons of surface rust but engine frame and panels were all in good shape.

theres a restored AE86 here near toronto for 16k canadabucks so like 10k US. its a replica of takumis 86.

OP here. Should I be willing to bring 12,000 dollars cash with me on a 5 hour drive? He said he'd really prefer cash, but I just don't feel safe doing it. He seems pretty reluctant to take a check from me.
