>decide you want your pleb brand to be luxury
>"we want the random letters and numbers = luxury car crowd"
>take an existing car and give it a new brand name
>sometimes just use the fucking car's own name for your entire brand
>maybe some old rich fuck will forget about our old, cheap brand
>the random letters and numbers further serve to confuse consumers and make them believe it's a Mercedes because good stuff always uses lotsa numbers in the name
>GENESIS G90
>MUH LETTERS AND NUMBERS
Is there any modern luxury (not supercar) brand that hasn't used that fucking formula?
>>14546364
You wouldn't believe how many people thought genesis was a seperate brand already
>>14546404
Did Hyundai dealers downplay the Hyundai part of Genesis?
>>14546415
Most of them don't come with the Hyundai logo on them, they have the Genesis wings.
>>14546364
>Genesis G90
who would buy a 90hp luxury car
that car is actually super comfy and has some real nice features. and the other "luxury" brands arent setting the bar high on reliability. whats wrong with their attempt to make to make a nice car?
>it wont please a bunch of autism stricken auto enthusiasts so we shouldnt even try.
>>14546508
Im just waiting for the V6TT to appear in the Genesis coupe.
>>14546508
implying anyone on /o/ has ever driven a car
>>14546364
I don't understand, OP.
Is your big hangup the fact that more car makers are using alphanumeric designations or that exotic brands don't?
>muh soil
you have to pretty much not give a fuck about cars to not understand what the bmw and mb numbers and letters mean. It's quite straightforward for the most part.
>>14546550
Explain how S550, or S63 get there name.
>>14546550
>It's quite straightforward for the most part.
Not anymore. It hasn't been consistent or straight forward for years.
>>14546579
This
It use to be Engine displacement x 100 or Displacement x 10 for amg models.
>>14546579
>the higher the number the more expensive it is
how is this not straightforward?
>>14546572
S550 = S Class, 5.5L V8
S63 = S Class, 6.3L V12
>>14546622
S550 = S class 4.7L Bi turbo
S63= S Class 5.5L Biturbo v8
>>14546622
S550 = 4.6TT
S63 = 5.5TT
Ftfy
>>14546622
Retards blown the fuck out.
BMW numbers get slightly confusing because their numbers don't always represent the displacement anymore, the turbo models have larger numbers because they have the performance of a larger engine.
Basically,
>first number
the series, which denotes how big the car is e.g the 1 series is a little 2 door and the 7 series is a landbarge
>second two
how fast the car is, in more relative numbers than actual displacements if considering turbo models in the lineup
>last letter/s
i = gasoline, d= diesel, xi = gasoline with xdrive
>>14546635
>>14546633
The number after the letter is the displacement in MB and BMW engines on NA models. If it has a turbo they overstate the number so it doesn't seem like the turbo version is slower than one of the lower end models.
>>14546622
>>14546633
fugg
>>14546644
>tfw your dreem Beem is a '90s 7 series IL
>>14546644
Aka, Once turbos get included BMW goes full retard and just Tosses out a larger number with no reason to it. >>14546654
Same to mb, there no real reason to the numbers. If they wanted to they could rename the S63 to S69 or the S550 to S598
>>14546677
Do you have a better system?
>>14546684
Idk
Maybe If its bi turbo add 200 to the number
4.7L bi turbo becomes S670
5.5L Bi turbo amg becomes S75 amg
>>14546704
>yeah bro, the turbos on my merc each add 100hp. yeah, it's right there in the number man.
Oh hai! I heard you want to get into the luxury car game :^)
>T-the germans are d-dead!
>The next Cadillac STD w-will kill the germans!
>Seriously, believe me! N-nobody will want an S-Class o-once the L-lincoln Thunderfart cooooooooop hits the market
>>14546709
Well Bi means two
So It would make sense to add 2 into the number, and since Turbos make the engine punch above there displacement weight, add then to the First number.
It makes more sense then just creating random numbers
>>14546677
>316i

>320d (163 PS)
>320d (218 PS)

>330d (258 PS)
>330d (313 PS)
implying this is a better/less confusing system
>>14546718
Was watching some youtube where guys checked out the interiors of the S90, Continental, E-class, CT6, and the big Genesis (what is it called?)
They seemed to think the Genesis was a class above in terms of features and finish.
>>14546364
Lincoln has a proper model name with the new Continental. Would be nice if they extended that back to the whole range.
>>14546776
If Hyundai ever wants it to succeed, they need to make a luxury subbrand. Doesn't matter how good it is, nobody will buy it.
>>14546776
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teL4t9UTJKo
This video here.
>>14546787
They have.
The Equus, Genesis coupe and Genesis Sedan are no longer going to be Hyundai.
They will be the Genesis G90 ( equus ) which is what is in the picture. The G80 (genesis Sedan) and g60 (gen coupe)
>>14546508
Not saying anything about the quality of the car.
>>14546533
Big hangup is that American, Jap and Korean luxury just keep copying the German numbers trend. It's like a luxury car can't have a normal model name to market itself as luxury anymore.
I guess Maserati is the exception.
>>14546780
Now if only they had a proper car and not just a tarted up chinese taurus.
>>14546364
since when is genesis a luxury brand you pleb?
>>14546947
Since starting this year, its breaking off from hyundai
>>14546939
I really don't get why people get worked about about the platform a luxury car is on. If it brings the price down what's the problem?
If you're in that segment, what you care about is interior comfort / appointment / finish. That's really it.
>>14546919
>copying the German numbers trend
Please...Just stop acting like the Germans invented the alphanumeric naming scheme. It's hardly a new thing nor has it ever been exclusively German. American, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and British have all used alphanumeric nameplates. there probably isn't of a single car company that's been around for at least 30 years that has never used an alphanumeric name.
>>14547010
If anything alphanumerc nameplates make sense on luxury cars, to help differentiate which is more expensive and more luxury.
Like if someone came up and said, Which is more expensive Ghibli, Gran Tursimo or Quettroporte i wouldn't have any idea.
>>14546364
>babys first brand loyality
If i had the money for a newer car and would see the genesis and it would be significantly cheaper, with similar options on trim and features, i would get the genesis.
If the gen wold be reliable, comfy, with good mpg's, i wouldn't give a flying dick about brands.
I never heard of any person that recieved criticism for driving a luxury model of a cheap car brand. The only criticism is usually the autism on /o/.
Also, the guy that compliments your benz will not give you money when in need for expensive service.
Only dumb people keep sucking brand cock. If you buy from different brands, you are setting pressure on the corporations to attract you with better features. But if you throw your money at the same stuff, oligopolies is the result.
>>14546971
Because when a car is built to a $20,000 price point, sacrifices are made. Adding leather and steering wheel buttons doesn't erase those sacrifices.
There was a time when lincoln aspired to be rolls royce. Now they aspire to be acura.
>>14546971
People have no experience with these cars and always asume things they heard or seen somewhere. And since o is full of angsty teenagers that are afraid their virginity will never come to an end, if they pick up jack in a toyota, they sperg out on anything that goes against their known brands.
>>14547133
>sacrifices are made
Yes, those sacrifices are expensive gimmicky shit that is stuffed into cars to somehow justify the crazy prices.
The standard stuff like noise damping, leather, comfy suspension is nothing crazy expensive.
The car market is stagnating with innovations for a long time. And people are realizing it slowly.
>>14546404
>>14546415
Genesis was already a luxury sub-brand in Asia. It's now being fully spun off globally.
>>14546718
Mercedes is the only good German automakers atm.
Jaguar and Cadillac are blowing out BMW in driving dynamics now and new Audi are fucking offensively ugly.
>>14546919
Maserati makes a car named the ghibli. Fucking ugliest name in the world for car. Their opinion is invalid.
>>14547227
I really like the new A7 and tt not to mention the masturbation-worthy R8
Saw one on the road yesterday for the first time. It has quite a bit of presence. It looks quite nice.
I wish the badge didnt look so much like Aston Martins'. That was really confusing me as i drove up to it before i could make out "Genesis"
>>14547405
Ghibli is a fucking awesome name. You must be the guy who hates Abarth as a name
>>14547227
>jaguar and cadillac are blowing out BMW in driving dynmaics
If american magazines just stopped comparing everything to the pre facelift F30 already.
Worked great for the Phaeton, nobody thought it was just another shitty VW and they held their value really well
>>14546622
You forgot S63 is AMG, because it only has 2 numbers not 3. Noob.
>>14548657
Phaeton was under the VW logo.
The Genesis is getting its own brand now like Lexus, Infinity and Acura.
Because most americans are to stupid to realize these are related to Toyota, Nissan and honda.
>>14546364
You prefer they name it after some animal?
>>14548693
>Because most americans are to stupid to realize these are related to Toyota, Nissan and honda.
>to stupid
Also Toyota and Honda are actually good, and Nissan is not bad. What has Hyundai done to merit the same trust?
>>14546684
Why not engine displacement x 100 with a "t" or "tt" suffix?
330i = 3 series with 3.0L NA enigne
330t = 3 series with 3.0L turbo engine
330tt = 3 series with 3.0L twin turbo engine
S550 = S class with 5.5L NA engine
S550t = S class with 5.5L turbo engine
S550tt = S class with 5.5L twin turbo engine
etc.
>>14549071
Basically Lexus is the only one being truthful with this scheme.
>IS200T = 2L Turbo
>IS350 = 3.5L NA V6
>ISF = muh AMG/M
