Is anyone else getting sick of the "gigantic luxury box on wheels" phase that truck design has been sticking to for the past ten years?

Yes, MARY.
>>
>>14515795
This is 100x worse than Roush.

I KNOW WHAT WE NEED

I have never been a fan of pick up trucks.
I feel like you should have to have a special permit/license to drive anything bigger than a Ranger.
The F150s/Rams/(insert shitty GM product here) have become road hazards with overly bright lights that sit exactly in a normal cars back window.
They are also so obnoxiously loud they take up too much space on public roads if people do not actually need the functionality of a truck for work.
>>
>>14515821

I'm with ya. First car was an 01 Ram 1500. Hated it, especially in retospect. But now I got an old Toyota pickup that is smaller than a modern Corolla and I couldn't be happier. 2wd vs 4x4 too, so it fucking goessss for a little eighties minitruck.
>>
>>14515821
I bought a light 4x4 truck last year. Was sorta hoping I could avoid the headlights in my back window.... Nope... New trucks that aren't even much taller than me still blind the fuck outta me.

Funny thing is I probably haul more shit in my truck than most full size owners
>>
>>14515806
Why wasn't this made?
This could be cheap, usable, 4WD, and a modern utilitarian truck that isn't fuckhuge.
>>
>>14515891
Because Fiat/Chrysler is retarded.

they should move the headlamps onto the bumper so there's room for more chrome

Boomer mobile trucks are by far the most aesthetic trucks. Just look at this apache hood!
>>
I hate that all new fullsize SUV's are luxury. What if I just want a shitty base model for work? And they all have plastic bumpers. No more thick metal bumpers. Pretty depressing honestly.
>>
>>14515891
>>14515914
But it is getting made
There are plans to bring a Jeep pickup based on the Wrangler out in 2017

>>
>>14515789
The option to get a much more luxurious trim is definitely a newer trend with trucks. But even today WT trucks can be pretty bare.

So why the demand for more luxury trucks? Why not? People want to haul/tow things in comfort. And when they're not towing/hauling why make that experience any worse? Driving that truck is the same as driving a mid level economy car-upper level luxury car in all ways except handling/suspension.
>>
>>14515821
>can't drive apparently, blames everything on someone else's truck.
>>
>>14515789
yes. trucks used to be a working vehicle, now they're bloated luxury yachts used as status symbols by rednecks with too much money. I guarantee that 95% of the beds of these ridiculous trucks have never seen a speck of dirt

nope. I like mine and look forward to buying another. just because it has the capability to do work doesn't mean it has to be a piece of shit with a vinyl bench seat and manual windows.
>>
IS there a picture of a person standing infront of such a truck?
I always thought vehicles get more and more pedestrian safe

this one does not look like it would help alot in a crash

here's a cute little gawker for you
>>
arent there still some bare-bones fleet trucks available for work purposes only?
but yes, would be cool to have something unpretentious and practical. just need a work truck dont need to be nothing fancy
>>
>>14516221
yes, of course there are. you can still get your bench seat, regular cab, 8' bed manual everything truck but everyone on here seems to like acting there is no such thing just for the sake of being butthurt about something.
>>
>>14516236
though I should clarify, when I say manual everything I mean in terms of options like windows and locks. there aren't many out there that still offer manual transmissions and I can't imagine there's anything without power steering these days.
>>
>>14516246
i know what you mean, power steering is fine, kinda the same with power brakes. no point going back to stone age.

and me personally why would i go for a truck thats clearly worse / cheaper? because i know its gonna get dinged / banged up pretty good. I wouldnt want to buy anything too nice for that. just something solid and reliable that gets the jerb done.

I've done what I can to protect the paint on mine but I still drive it pretty much anywhere I'd drive my 200k mile Grand Cherokee and don't really have any significant dings or scratches or anything. I mean I'm obviously not going to take it rock crawling but I've made my way to some fairly remote campsites without causing any real harm.
>>
Ford Ranger looks cute. All it needs are some proper 7.5R16 MT tires.
>>
>>14516467

And what is really interesting is rear suspension.

Not only it's coiled but is also watts linked, really nice.

I love and need my big boy trucks to haul my big boy toys. If u want more govt legislation and want to be surrounded by other sheeple, europe is your utopia. Don't let the freedom door hit ya in the ass on the way out sucka.

I've never liked the appearance of Ford trucks in general. I never liked GM trucks up until the newest models that just came out. Dodges were my favorite, but the current Ram is getting a bit stale.
>>
>>14516716

I do like the new Ridgeline too, and it has some very useful features that the competition doesn't offer.
>>
>>14515957

>move headlamps on to the bumper

Now every accident is more expensive for no reason.

>>14516467

7.5R16. A few mm short of the truly agricultural 205R16

>>14516478

>really nice

While I enjoyed driving the nissan D23 with coils I would still choose leaf springs as they only have 4 bushings, the leaf springs and that is it for maintenance. We normally carry 125% of MGVW to stay competetive and the roads even ruin regular vehicle suspensions within 5 years so we rebuild suspensions often.

>>14516501
>I love and need my big boy trucks to haul my big boy toys.
No you definitely do not.

What you want and what you need are completely different things.

Shhhhh

If the American's start requesting them the utilitarian design will be ruined.

I've driven newer higher model trucks. It's a pretty comfy feel to see over everyone and basically be sitting on a couch. Best imo is the new F-150 platinums. The luxuriousness you get in them is pretty crazy, and I can understand why some people would be attracted to it.

But I could not imagine doing it for daily use. Like it is such a pain to park in most cases. The rearview cameras are nice, but weird when first using them.

I live in south tho so like more than half of any given parking lot is trucks and big suvs. A lot of people who buy them think they need them for those 2-3 times a year that they load up something big. Meanwhile the fucking mexican gardener with a T100 has a truck full of scrap towing his lawn care shit in a trailer.
>>
>>14517090
Yeah man, my friends dad has the new platinum its fucking nice as shit inside. He uses it for work which is mainly towing and for pullling his boat in the summer. I get why people get them but i persnally miss cheap small trucks ju know
>>
>>14515789
>getting sick of the "gigantic luxury box on wheels"
I wouldn't know OP, every truck I've owned since I've started driving has been a base model work truck. Mainly because I use them for its intended purpose, work.

you can still get barebones work only trucks. Where is this notion that you can't coming from?

20s 30s 40s 51, 52, 53, 66-86 F series all looked beautiful in my opinion. 83-88, 05-11 rangers look good too.

There's a longbed too. It's about the size of a longbed defender
