Safety inspections are necessary in some states. Some places don't even let the car back onto the road if it has a severe problem that needs to be fixed immediately.

Thoughts on the Holden Astra VXR? I haven't seen any advertising for this thing at all, and yet it doesn't look that bad. This should be butting heads with the Focus ST, and yet its receiving no attention what-so ever.

I've posted before about changing oil on a falcon, now the car is unused so I'm giving my self the challange of trying to fix it, the car was in an accident so it's a bit fucked

So far:
Leak from the bellhousing
Suspension clunk
Front end shudders badly when braking
Bumper and skirts fucked
Not sure what else but most likely many suspension parts have been damaged

Checked what was dripping from the bellhousing and I'm pretty sure it's oil, is that the main seal on the engine?
>>
>>14467038
I know about anime. That's about it.
>>
>>14467038
bikes, dont forget bikes
>>
>>14467043
Rear main seal could be fucked.

Also is the car a sedan? Since fords diff bushes are literal garbage tier and fuck out all the time which could explain the "clunk".
>>
>>14467054
Yes it's a sedan, clunk is definitely in the front end around the drivers side.

What's involved in changing the seal?, I know the transmission has to come out, but it isn't an engine out job is it?

Aren't tie rods usually what cause clunking too?
>>
>>14467068
I think the passenger strut or something around that snapped and was welded up, so that will have to go too
>>
>>14467068
suspension bushes cause clunks
so does fucked struts
rear main seal is engine in, but transmission out
shudder under brakes is very likely warped brake rotors, cheap as fuck, do pads at the same time or I'll laugh at you
>>
>>14467068
Falcon parts are everywhere and cheap as fuck so you won't have a problem getting them.

Engine in but tranny out for rear main seal.
Have this vid to help:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYFntUfmuys
>>
>>14467080
Cool, keen as to give this a go as a long term project

Going to be a struggle seeing as the most advanced thing I've done is a transmission filter, you can see if bushes are worn without removing them right?
>>
>>14467043
>leak from bellhousing
probably rear main seal, gearbox out job
>suspension clunk
could be anything suspension wise, look for fucked out ball joints, if the car has been lowered check the strut tops too
>shuddering front end
warped rotors, need new rotors and pads
>bumper and skirts fucked
find a wreck hopefully the same colour

Unless its a cool old ford (pre XE) i daresay its not worth the effort, you can pick up running shitheap EA falcons for like $500 so unless you're just wanting to kill time i'd move on and get something else.

for 5k you should be able to find a 320 or 325. i only really see 318 two doors and not many 325s, so if you want the two door you'll probably end up with a 318.
which isnt bad, its just not incredibly powerful.

>How long until we get some doriftu videos?
Dunno man, depends on how long it takes me to get a block and bottom end internals here and prepped for a quick build. That and work plays a part unfortunately. I have to create some sort of electronics and communications focused project so I can pass my course. Was thinking of building a quadcopter from scratch, as in doing all the programming, building of ESC's and frame on my end of things rather than just buying a kit. Would also have to develop my own RF transmitter and receiver to control it too. Starting to stress a little about it to be honest.

That and I've been hit with a mountain load of bills all at once. Tyres, 2 car regos, CTP, home and contents insurance, pretty sure there's more but I can't remember at the moment. Feel like I'm getting royally ass fucked and the corporations aren't using lube at the moment.

Leaning towards calling b8, friendos.

To clarify, in case I'm just talking to an idiot instead of a troll, I'm saying a roll cage is unnecessary for a sub 3k shitbox. You will literally not find anything worth putting a roll cage in. Fucking pull your head in, and think about it. How many people would spend far, far more than the cars value in modifying it for actual track use, and THEN sell it at the same price as the stock pieces of shit that is within your price range. FUCKING NONE.
There are no modified, track ready cars in your budget, and there never will be.

>>14468771
lol, nah i just got tired of you being a retard.

i still plan to get something, gonna look at an FX Corolla 'soon' (found one gonna call seller tomoro) "3k Shitbox" theres a few FX corolla racecars out there thanks to the 4age being well known and widely supported.

Another option was a bluebird with the 3SGE engine, but sedan (heavy) and fwd really didnt interest me. i dont mind the lighter weight peugeots but i dont know anyone who knows anything about those and >french car >australia nice aftermarket.

Early starlets can be had for cheap, as can just about anything in the pic i posted (thats all 2L NA, no type R's) about half of those are caged for production series racing.

as for "ready to run" cars i found a datsun 120y and a subaru leone both with cages, seats and harnesses homologated/certed and ready to race for $3500
Theres always going for a falcodore but i havent see any for sale for cheap.
>>

From what little I know about them, the Focus is a much better sorted out car in terms of being able to get its power down effectively with some tricked out suspension and diff. Whereas the Astra scrabbles around like a dog on lino trying to hook up

The smaller Fords always where nicely put together cars over the years. Festi's, Focuses and the like just sort of always kept on trucking, maybe not the nicest of buzzboxes at the lower specs, but they just did what they say on the can.

Went to go see this today, I sent this guy a low ball offer over a week ago and he got back to me after I bought the Subaru.
After taking it for a test drive I asked how much he wanted for it, he said $2800. I told him I only have $1,500. He told me that he's got some other people interested in it but to let him know if I can get some more funds.
So I said goodbye and drove home (Awesome drive along Greenhill Road btw)
By the time I get home I've got a message from him.
