so what's the verdict on this?
I figure /o/ should be creaming itself over a rebadged miata with an abarth engine
>>14466150
I like it.
>>14466150
One of only a handful of cars that I'm legitimately interested in buying within the next few years.
If they make the Abarth look even half way decent, I will pick up a used one about a year after they come out
Kinda reminds me of a little mustang.
it's neat, it looks less angry than most new cars which is nice.
and again, an abarth turbo engine on an ND is really REALLY a good combo, especially once tuners get a hold of it and give it a shitload more power. it could be the turbo ND everyone wants
>>14466165
>>14466177
This. If it can easily get in the 4.6-4.8 sec 0-60 range it may wind up in my garage some day.
>>14466177
And it's super easy to get more power out of those engines. You can easily pull well over 200hp out of a 500 Abarth on a very conservative budget. And they sound amazing with a decent exhaust
>>14466185
OH FUCK I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE EXHAUST
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY6TYmdLrcc#t=6m25s
imagine that on a 200whp NS miata, god damn this is shaping up to be one hell of an all-rounder

but i like everyday driver
How much does it weigh.
>>14466272
3800
>>14466272
>Fiat: 2,436 pounds (manual) / 2,476 pounds (automatic)
so just about a hundred pounds heavier than the ND, i suspect the abarth will be a little heavier still with the different engine.
still, that's light as FUCK for a modern car
>>14466282
hot damn what the fuck
>>14466272
>>14466299
2,436 pounds for the manual. which isn't bad at all
Also, I know it's a long shot at this point, but I sssssseriously hope car & Driver turns out to be correct about the Abarth version. This was from Autoblog a while back:
"Although Mazda is still on the fence about turbocharging the ND Miata, Fiat has confirmed it will launch an Abarth-branded version of the roadster designed with an unrestrained focus on performance.
Car & Driver reports it will be fitted with an evolution of the 240-horsepower, 1.7-liter turbo four currently mounted transversally behind the Alfa 4C‘s passenger compartment, though other sources — notably British magazine Autocar — believe it will simply use a more powerful version of the regular model’s 1.4-liter I4.
>those feels with a 240 hp, 1.7L Abarth 124
>>14466150
I want to like it, but it's just not that good looking.
>>14466300
the post below that one says 2436 lbs
I love the hints of E-Type in the lines. Looks a hell of a lot better than the new Miata. I'm looking forward to seeing these get LS-swapped.
>>14466305
>240hp in a 2500lb car
>WITHOUT a tune
oh sweet baby jesus this is gunna be some shit
Any pics of the hardtop model out there?
>>14466150
looks like shit

>>14466393
roadsters are the shit dude
>>14466407
concur. it looks like it is already a decade old. i really hope they reconsider the styling. hopefully the abarth will look better
>>14466417
It has been rumored to be a thing. fuck verts in canadian winters
>>14466430
why would a soft top be bad?
>>14466150
I love it. Fixes all the negatives about the Miata. Now we'll finally have a well rounded car with a nice balance between power and weight - handling and acceleration.
Fyi the Abarth 1.4 turbo only needs a flash tune to reach 200hp. And I haven't heard of any reliability issues with the engine.
>Abarth
What a fucking ugly name
>>14466470
roodypoos
>>14466751
But their logo is a scorpion.
>>14466770
>Miata; cute name, cute car, soft logo
>Abarth; a barf name, not even cute car, "we want the muscle audience" logo
>>14466319
That some godamn Bugatti territory, HP-Weight ratio wise.
>>14466781
The whole scorpion thing was a tongue in cheek joke when it came out. Abarth was a DIY performance kit for your shitty little 500 that made it compete with the MINI.
>>14466150
FIX
looks like it could of come out in 95
>>14466150
I'll definitely give it a try, it's right in budget for my next car. I just hope it's a bit more spacious than the miata
>>14466150
If you're going to make a Miata and pretend it isn't a Miata along with giving it an engine of questionable reliability, you could at least badge it as an Alfa Spider.
>>14466751
It's a fucking awesome name.
Now here's something sounds ugly
>>14466305
>pic fucking related
>>14467496
Still sounds better than repair bill ;^)
>>14466305
>>14466319
>those feels with a 240 hp, 1.7L Abarth 124
They'll detune it to about 200hp, otherwise it'd spank the 4C for half the price.
Novitec is already pulling 300hp out of those 1.7T engines, but it's the 4C's DCT transmission that keeps breaking at about 300Nm of torque. They're pretty sure it can take more - and that's without E85. At that point it's going to be the Fiata transmission and rear end that's going to be the limiting factor.
>>14466165
>i am totally interested in this car
>i know, i can buy a used one
>why don't they make cars i like??
>>14467649
TOP KEK
and also true
>>14466781
So are you a girl or are you gay?
Just wondering because there's no way in hell that you're a straight male.
>>14467247
The Abarth engine has already been around for several years and hasn't had any significant issues. Meanwhile the Miata has a weird, unproven skyactive engine. I think the Miata engine is actually more questionable.
>>14467723
That must be why Mazda is consistently ranked top 10 for reliability and dependability and Fiat is dead last.
>>14467728
Oh okay, so by that logic that must mean the RX-8 is reliable.
Oh wait...
>>14467740
No, because the RX-8 is not a current model.
>>14467649
In the UK at least, something like 1/3rd of the cost of a car is in taxes, wheras there's no tax on private sales
>>14467752
You missed the point.
>>14467745
You said consistently and the RX-8 was made as recent as 2012.
Also, you realize that the 124 will have Mazda electronics and will be built in Japan alongside the Miata, right? So if you love Mazda so much then I don't see why you'd have such a problem with the 124.
>>14467760
The point being that I need to pay significantly more for a car new to show that I'm interested in it?
No I get that, I'm just pointing out that buying a car new is financially retarded and there's currently about 2 cars I'm interested in that aren't completely out of my reach. I'm not buying either new though, fuck wasting that kind of money
>>14467774
Buying new isn't financially retarded. Buying new is financially retarded for YOU. Because you're poor.
>>14467769
Mazda was still rated as top 10 when the RX-8 was made but that doesn't tell us that it will be reliable now. Because it is not a current model. Like I said.
I never said that the Fiat 124 will be unreliable I simply pointed out how absurd it is to call the Skyactiv motor into question over the Fiat motor when every objective measure shows the opposite of what you are saying.
>>14467774
You don't have to buy a new car but don't complain when car makers cater to the people who do.
>>14467781
>Pay £20,000 for a car
>Or buy an identical car used for £15,000
Oh noes, it has 2,000 miles on the clock, however will I live with myself
>Hurr if u dun overpay ur pooor
Do you own an iPhone and a BMW by any chance?
>>14467784
I don't I typically buy cars with proven track records as opposed to taking a chance on a new POS
>>14467792
You still don't get it. This was not about the merits of a new or used car.
>>14467795
No I'm well aware the point is I need to show interest in the model for the company to make more like it
However, I'm also very much aware that I'm a drop in the pan and for every ND or FiST I buy, there's 40,000 other people buying Hyundai i20s and Honda Jazzes
>>14467803
You are well aware of the point yet you keep bringing up irrelevant side points as rebuttals?
>>14467817
>New cars costing significantly more for no good reason is irrelevant
>>14467740
RX8 is dead reliable after they fixed their first production mishap.
>>14467723
Mazda actually has some of the best engine designers in the industry right now. You can take their leftovers scraps, call them Ecoboost, and still be highly competetive in the current marketplace.
>>14467820
Yeah.
>>14467782
So what objective measure do you have that the Abarth engine is unreliable?
What objective measure do you have that the new Miata skyactive engine is reliable?
>>14467833
>>14467833
He heard "fix it again Tony" joke and watched all episodes of Initial D
>>14467838
and this...
I'm not exactly creaming myself, but I certainly would be upset if I ever wound up in one. I certainly find it much better looking than the Mazda. I maybe have a slight concern that I'd miss having a larger (relatively) NA engine, but I've never driven a modern turbo so that might be unfounded.
>>14467792
Good luck buying old abused shit heaps for the rest of your life while I enjoy my modern technology and complete reliability.
>>14467855
>complete reliability.
Oh god I think he's serious
>>14467851
Modern tarbos are fine. Very little lag due to variable geometry.
Too bad they don't need wastegates anymore. I miss that whistle.
>>14466150
I'm excited, looks better than the new mx5 fd imo. Anyone know how it sounds (like vid links etc)??
>>14467838
>>14467843
Neither of those pertain to the ND engine nor the Abarth engine.
The ND engine is brand new. You can't prove its reliability because it has no track record yet.
Meanwhile there have been no recalls regarding the Abarth engine.
Also, like I said earlier, the 124 will be assembled by Mazda and have their electronics. So if the 124 does have issues, it'll probably be their fault.
>>14467838
>predicted reliability
Yes, purely objective facts taken from the future after these cars have been on the road for a few years and all the bugs have been discovered and solved/claimed as a feature
>>14467838
>>14467843
Most "reliability problems" in those surveys are things like Bluetooth connectivity and infotainment glitches, why not use more serious references?

Sorry but "people who bought a warranty" is not a representative sample and I can just as easily dismiss your source as you did mine.
