>>
>India
>'flood damage'

You do sort of realise what goes into Indian rivers?
Hell it'd be a mass of poo, half a dead nigger and enough toxins to kill a rhino
>>
Anyone ever worked on a flood car (one that was really underwater)? I got one in at a dealership but we just said it would be more practical to replace the car, it was a Solara or something like that, nothing desirable. You have to pull the engine apart, it's not worth risking hydrolocking it, as well as finding a whole new interior, not just the fabrics, everything, liner of the glove box, AC blend doors, etc. would probably cost $30k to properly fix a $10k car
>>
good for them i guess, but its not a luxury car if the interior is shitted out from water damage, require a totally new engine, re hauled electronics and fucked exterior finishes + long term damage

fuck. that.
>>
>>14451751
>You have to pull the engine apart, it's not worth risking hydrolocking it
Uh, no, there is no reason you would have to do that.
>>
>>14451776
>there is no reason you would have to do that
>on an engine that was underwater
>that has water in every nook and cranny of the oil passages, intake, and in the cylinders themselves
What would you do, blast it out with air? Good luck, but when you have to guarantee your work flood car = engine rebuild
>>
I know a guy who bought a used 2011 Audi, but after some minor electrical glitches he found dead water bugs under the floor mat. Got rid of the car as soon as possible
in Europe btw
>>
>>14451800
>but when you have to guarantee your work flood car
??? This is clearly not a situation where there is some sort of warranty provided with the car. People are probably buying these and trying to fix them themselves. There is NO reason to take apart the engine. Replace the oil and pull plugs off the cylinder and there you go. I do this shit all of the time. Provided the water hasn't already evaporated like it has most likely done in the case of these Indian cars.

Best thing for them is to rip them down to spare parts as they're mostly just a complete overhaul
Anything interior or electronic though as to get binned, panels, engine, driveline, suspension and stuff like that is generally ok provided it doesn't have a tree sticking out of it
>>
>>14451754
I would buy flood cars to rip out the interior and use them as derby cars or run them in the 24 hours of lemons
>>
>>14451822
>I do this shit all of the time
You rebuild flood cars all the time? Hmmmm. Has nothing to do with warranty, I was talking about fixing a car as a professional. It's 100% impossible to get all the oil (or oil/water mix in the case of a flood car) out of the engine without tearing it down, same goes for getting whatever is sitting in the cylinders, intake, etc. It's not going to evaporate while it's sitting around. Can you post a picture of one of the flood cars you saved?
>>
Quality BigBlackCock report again.

Those cars are literally encrusted in shit. Even a couple thousands are too much for these piles and they act like those are "bargains".

Seeing as this is India, I bet they will make do with whatever they can, probably will replace the engine and other parts with them ancient taxicabs they drive around in, replace rusty metal with whatever scrap they find, not sure about the electronics and interior though but im guessing they will probably throw the electronics out and rip out the interior and rig something up

Everything but the intake and coolant lines will not let water in.

So pump the water out of the engine by running the starter. If there is no water then there will probably be rust on the engine walls. But if its aluminum then no. I would fill each cylinder up with water. Let soak. Then run the starter and blast it out the spark plug holes. Then fresh oil. Let it run for 20 minutes with intermittent revs. Then drain the oil and put fresh in. That should clean the internals. Water cannot make it into the valve cover area that is air tight.

Electrical wires are covered with a rubber coating which stop water from entering. Water can only harm the components at the end of the wires. If everything has dried out it should be ok. I suggest taking apart all electrical systems for a clean regardless. But things like radio, speedometer, hvac and car computer Ecu etc all need to be replaced but that isn't hard because all connections are there ready to go. Simple plug and play.

So really all the concerneds in this thread are not warrented except for mould. Mould is bad. But find a new used interior and that is easily replace.
>>
>>14451852
Not that guy but know something about flooded engines. In particular boat engines that have been unfortunate enough to be in boat that sunk. While a boat engine is a little different they quite often based on auto engines.

So what do you do when you lift an engine from the sea? Drain oil and coolant. Fill with oil. Remove plugs and turn over to remove water. Put a water displacement ouk in cylinders and turn over

All electronics are replaced. Generally the engine is o.k. if treated quickly after being removed from the sea. The oil in the crankcase will keep that fine.. Biggest area of concern is the combustion chambers.

Removing all water isn't difficult.. The biggest issue is retaining compression. You are either lucky or you arnt.

These are of course iron block/ iron head engines, and less refined than car engines, but much of the same applies. If compression was o.k. I would be fine with a water salvaged vortec.. Doubt I would feel the same about a new Benz or BMW engine.
>>
>>14455928

Just soak that shit in electric contact cleaner spray, don't even bother cleaning the excess, it eventually dries and level a protective layer.

>Ask me how I know that works.
>>
>>14455928
>Water cannot make it into the valve cover area that is air tight.
Crankcases are ventilated.. So the are neither airtight or watertight... The valve cover has passages to the crankcase so that will fill with water.
>>
>>14456283
Who care put oil in it. Oil cleans everything. Cars are stupid and do not know what water is. The engine will think it is brand new at that point.

People posting are stupid. If someone turns a flood locked motor they basically brick the car.
>>
>>14459293
You may think that but, no, it isn't.
>>
>>14451800
You pull the plug then crank the starter. It takes a certain amount of water to lock an engine. Your biggest concern is the water mixing with the oil and removing the lubricant in tight spaces. Rings etc. Once you push the water out with the starter drain the oil, use compressed air to blow out what you can from the plug holes, refill oil, and put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder, plugs back in then start it. If it starts then let it run to operating temperature, then idle for a bit, then change the oil again.
Done
>>
>>14451709
If you know a thing or two about cars, it isn't that bad of a deal. Although I wouldn't buy a flood damaged car for anything other than a race car.

Mold will always come back to the fabric. So you will need to strip the interior and go full race car. So many people think "omg water and electronic it will never work again." The truth is, you can soak electronics in water, and it wont harm them. Assuming that the battery is disconnected and nothing shorts out. Just make sure everything is dry so it doesn't short out, and you are good. Clean the engine, make sure there is no water, oil change. And you have a good car for a fraction of the price.

Granted, the electronics may have shorted. Especially on modern cars. So replace some computers which is super easy (albeit expensive) and you are good.
