It's got to be asked. Why the fuck do you guys love MX-5s/Miatas so much?? They're absolute trash. they're oddly weight proportioned, slow, ugly, too small to be of any use, and really don't drift that well? Are you all just ricey cucks or am I missing something?

They're about as close to a road-legal gokart as you can get. Great chassis to build off of. Stock they're fun but nothing special, but they can be weapons with a bit of tightening up and some power added to them.

You can't very easily change the fundamentals of a car. The chassis/platform is like its genetic code. Without tons of expensive custom one-off fabrication, you can't necessarily have, say, a 300zx be as light as a Miata, or have as nice of suspension geometry. You can, however, work with what you have, akin to getting /fit/. If an ugly fatass and an ugly fatass with decent facial genetics both get /fit/, the guy with the nice face is better off in the looks department. See what I'm getting at?

So you aren't allowed to have fun on public roads, and track days are next to impossible, just get whatever you think looks cool. In America Miatas have a huge community and support network of amateur racers, so they are an easy in to a competitive racing series, that's the appeal.

I owned one and learner a ton about driving from it but I agree with OP. A Miata is a beginner car, even if you throw a ton of mods at it, it will always be limited by the short suspension arms and floppy chassis. It makes no sense to mod one beyond basics, or to drive one past learning basics.
