Purolator is the first oil filter, they have a long legacy.
No super fancy shit, just the lineage and typical advances as they become economical. They are cheap, they aren't heinously restrictive and hold up under typical year round conditions through their life-cycle.
They are the best bang-buck oil filters.

What do you guys think about using bottom shelf oil? I'm talking about the cheapest off brand oil that there is at the store. A lot of times the cheapest synthetic is cheaper than name brand natural or partial-synthetic. Oil manufacturers are ALL required to satisfy some specifications, right?

I'm wondering if it is wise to buy synthetic off-brand oil and change it every 5000 miles instead of buying Valvoline or some other name brand conventional oil and change at 5000 miles.
>>
>>14445496
Why not just kill yourself for being such a cheap piece of shit? I mean Jesus Christ how poor are you to not even afford decent motor oil?
>>
>>14442873

Super Tech always does well in the analysis. I run some low level circle track. Most of the guys run Super Tech in sustained high revving circle track engines. Their thin full synthetic makes good power and shows good wear between refreshes. We change the oil based on a hours meter and number of laps. Sometimes that means twice in one weekend if we practice, qualify, run a race, and then a main. Saves a lot of money gets good results.
>>
>>14445496
Motul is actually really good oil. Also, do a quick google search on the study of lubricants, there's a pdf file with all manufacturers be tested under the same scientifically controlled conditions. Mind you its gear oil but it's an eye opener as to why you don't want bottom shelf poorfag brands.
>>
>>14442748
Meh, if i am going to go conventional ill just grab a jug of Motorcraft, but usually ill get some Pennzoil Plat. I got Quaker Stater full synth in my car bow and it has made it noticibly louder.

Engine flush if you're been doing it properly
And the cost of disposing of the old oil

Yes, that is all single purchase items (aside from the oil disposal), but normies would take literally half a saturday to do it making those costs combined with the lost time not worth the fucking $40, especially if they fuck up and the engine goes bang, the shop is liable not the owner.

We send our Super Tech oil off every 3-5 changes for analysis. Always checks out just as well as guys who pay 4-5x as much.

>>14445795

I've seen up to 5 hp average difference over 3-5 dyno pulls depending on oil weight. Brand doesn't really seem to matter, but weight does. We can't really get away with 0w-20 in most of our race engines long term, but on the dyno it's worth power. Think about it. When you pour out 0w-20 it's noticeably thin more like ATF. Compare that to 20w-50 which finds it's way into many of our engines.

Where I live each fire department building has a used oil collection container. You just dump your old oil into the tank, toss your old filter into the filter recycling bin and you're done. Buy a sealing drain pan with a pour spout on one end at Walmart for less than $15 and you're all set.

Like oil changes matter anymore. The difference between good products and shit-tier products is the difference between needing an engine rebuild at 300k or 350k and chances are something else will render it useless before than or it will get sold before then, so who gives a shit?

Most dealerships, in my experience, aren't as inflated as people like to pretend. I work at a walmart TLE, we'll do an oil change for $19.88. That gets you quaker state 10w30, 5w30, or 5w20 conventional and a fram core filter that's basically shredded newspaper in a cup, even worse than the fram extra guard. You can opt for a better filter if you want but 99% of people don't.

>>14442787
It could be worse. I started at $9/hr and am getting bumped up to $10.20/hr next week.

>>14446075
Anywhere that sells oil, at least in Texas, is legally required to take used oil. Walmart will take it for free, I don't know where the used oil fee BS came from.

>>14446352
Ours is $40 for high mileage oil and $50 for synthetic. That includes fluid top offs, vacuuming, windshield washing, tire pressure fill, etc. That is a ripoff though since you could get a 5 quart jug of Castrol GTX high mileage for $17 and a wix filter for $7, totalling a whopping $24 if you do it yourself. People still come in and pay $30-60 for oil changes here anyway, just so they don't have to do it.

Because the auto industry overprices things that take fifteen minutes for a mechanic to do. It's very easy to overcharge when your customer knows jack shit about what you're doing and how you're doing it.

Also the mechanics here in America are the worst I've seen on the planet, and I've seen as far as Turkey. People have a bad work ethic here already, it gets even worse when their customers are clueless.

supertech oil is fine. ive seen the tests and content breakdown. it's better than some name brands and equal to a lot of the mid shelf brands. it's low on zinc but all cheap oils are.

supertech affords you the ability to change your oil 30% more and still save money especially when they do ridiculous rollback deals like OP.

It's a portable ramp for £23.

You can place it in your car park bay, secure the ramp and then change the oil yourself.
>>
I changed my oil for the first time the other day, taught my dad how to do it at the same time.

Cost me $60 in total, including all of the stuff I didn't have like an oil filter wrench, drain pan, funnel and some shop cloths. I could have gotten everything a lot cheaper if I shopped around, but I went to the parts store across the street which also happens to be the most expensive in town.

It took me almost two hours, cost me more than it should have and my dad got oil all the garage floor, but it was still completely worth it. I love cars, I love my cars, and this was an opportunity to do even the littlest wrenching project and spend some time getting closer to my cars. Everyone should change their own oil, even if it's your more expensive option.
>>

why not? do you have extremely long ramps? I built mine and they step up 6',4 1/2',3',1 1/2' they work fine and a tow truck driver even said "did you build those?" "yes, i did" "you did a fine job" they work on all mine and my friends vehicles
