>RWD is just a meme edition

A thread for our beloved econobox pocket rockets. Talk experiences, ask for advice and questions and generally shitpost about the Fiesta ST.

Previous Thread: >>14375304
Which would you buy for £30K? 86 or FK2?

>What is a "Hot Hatch"?
A Hot Hatch is a manufacturer produced, performance oriented variant of a standard hatchback, designed for improved handling, increased top speed, acceleration and generally enhance the driving experience.

>Are all Hot Hatches FWD?
No. Whilst most Hot Hatches are FWD, some are AWD or even RWD.

>Isn't FWD shit?
No. Just because you can't get the arse out by stamping on the accelerator doesn't mean you can't have fun.

>Aren't Hot Hatches just for Europoors?
No; with the launch of the Fiesta and Focus ST in the US, it seems like the Hot Hatch is beginning to take of on the other side of the Atlantic, but Europoors definitely have more choice.

>Is the Fiesta ST actually good?
The Fiesta ST is one of the best small hot hatches on offer at the minute; so yeah they're pretty good.
>>
>>14440250
>Which would you buy for £30K? 86 or FK2?
Out of those two? FK2, but only because the 86 sucks.

I'd rather get a Peugeot 205 GTI, an S13 and an AWD Volvo 850 estate and have a good selection of all drivetrains with money left over to put into them.

Rear torsion beam.
If you're planning to crash it, roll cage because that car is a deathbox.
>>
>>14440384

>roll cage

As much as I'd like to, this is Portugal. Literally everything outside factory settings is illegal without paying heavy legalizing sums (I'm talking something like twice this car's value).
>>
>>14440334
UMC better sell them for a couple grand each, because that's one of the few reasons I'd buy a bunch of older used cars.
>>
>>14440360
pretty good, cant remember if the xsi has the 1.6 sohc but dont get one with the smaller engines, they're shite. unless its the 1.3 rallyee. this is back when france made reaosnable reliable cars, but when they start dying it all happends at once
>>
>>14440409
Torsion beams tend to wear and you have to replace whole unit. In poland there are shops who regenerate them by replacing all bars and bushings, but dunno about western europe.
Also rustproofing on these pugs was really great.
>>
>>14440419

It's a late spec, so it uses the rallye's 1.3.
Biggest worry is a large gash on the passenger seat, oh and while the mods are small, neither of them is tasteful. Going to be restored save for minor details here and here, as it will be a semi-daily with an occasional funride in mind. Definitely not boyracing it, this chassis handles corners very well, but not going 200+. Fags in civics and ibiza tdi's will certainly be an annoyance though.
>>
>>14440423

Yeah I think I remember some talk about the torsion beam. As long as it's little more than bushings I don't see much of a problem in replacing them.
What I do remember is head gasket issues with the earlier 1.4 engines, but IIRC it was fixed by using the rallye's engine afterwards.

this car, as well as a citroen CX, XM and BX4TC absolutely can not have any torque steer no matter how much power you put in the wheels (look up DIRAVI). Not that torque steer is even bad on difficult to deal with; I mean, if even 60's GM could do it, you only can't if your not trying.

Ok went to check the 106, and the deal is off. The dealership told me the mark I saw in the hood's photo was a "small scratch". When I checked in person, it was more than a scratch.
They used silicon rubber to hide a literal puncture through the hood's. Closely, it looked like a small caliber bullet hole. Didn't even bother checking the rest of the car.

I doubt those fake trays are anymore street legal than real trays

How do you even control the rear end when there's no power going there? They're just swinging it into a slide and that's it, I doubt you can keep a slide going in a FWD

>>14454170
true, who the fuck mods cars for drifting lol?!?!
>>
>>14454175
There's a difference between straight up performance increases and then just simply running completely bald scrap tires on your rear so that you can 'drift'.

You're effectively doing the same as running with a handbrake on through different means.

It's fine to do either as a means of learning.
>>
>>14454175
Well, you can mod an RWD for more power, thus easier drifting and shit like that, but I've never had any problems getting my RWD cars sideways, even my Benz with barely 80hp goes sideways in the summer too if need be.
>>
>>14454186
well you can also get a 60 hp corsa sideways without mods in the summer.

>>14454182
>running with a handbrake
except you're not.
you can keep on powering the car and accelerating and not going slower (what you'd have to do with a handbrake, since it brakes obviously) while wiht the tires you don't slow down
>>
>>14440250
>not awd
we at subarux.com all laughing
>>
>>14454190
You will never get the car fast though because its inherently unstable

>60hp corsa sideways

Funnily enough I drove one of those and it is not a nice car to get going sideways, it's unstable and I could only do it because one of the rear tires was basically scrap.
>>
>>14454195
>it is not a nice car to get going sideways
but it is fucking easy to control
>>
>>14454209
I don't know about you familia, I had a Corsa C not a modern shitheap like that one - which all have ESP so good luck sliding one of those safely.

Car has poor suspension imho and is massively biased towards understeer rather than over.
>>
>>14454227
>is massively biased towards understeer
that's true, but the corsa D is more modern than the corsa C m8 so I don't get what you is saying.

still easy with jamdbreake lamooo
>>
>>14454253
Corsa D is slower and has the required safety functions built in as standard (Stability control)

Corsa C is faster at the same displacement, lighter and more controllable.
>>
>>14454263
ahh now I get it, I thought you meant that the Corsa C was harder to slide because of that it is more modern lel

the base model corsa doesn't even have a radio, that thing is absolute shit so I don't feel bad for raping it, it does actually not even make shit when sliding it with the handbrake, so far nothing uncontrollable has happened.
actually doing slides with that shit every drive i take. so every day.
>>
>>14454300
I was talking about drifting it without using the handbrake

>Doing handbrake turns in me mams corsa innit bruv
>should call me english tsuchiya mayte

>>
>>14454310
>tfw not even british
le born in le wrong country

if you were talking bout lift off oversteer or scandinavian flick than you are right, you can forget that with this car

I'd say that it is actually more easy in FWD with these easy drift thing tires at least, because you can just keep on goin forward even if you spin because you just have to point wheels into the direction you want to go an press da gas peda
>>
>>14454322
None of these things are drifting though, this is like the stuff you train on to git gud at drifting - if that.

I'm using british talk because a Corsa is the gold standard car for scummy teenagers on British council estates that mod them out with fartcannon exhausts and rip handbrake turns around Tesco's every night.
>>
>>14454337
>with fartcannon exhausts and rip handbrake turns around Tesco's every night
that's exactly what we're also doing
only that we're about 6 jounglings (20-26 years old)
shit's fun, you should try it.

it's even more fun when you have to U turn and you just go full throttle and then rip the handbrake in the middle of the road to do a 180 and go into the other direction with smoking tires

>>
Drivetrain really doesn't matter much. I'll admit that FWD is at a disadvantage once you start getting up to around 400+whp, and it is inferior when used in professional racing.
However, having owned two rwd cars (G35 coupe and NA miata) and now owning a FWD 2012 Civic Si. I can assure you it is just as fast and fun on side streets, and touges, Honestly the G35 coupe understeered way more than my Si. After some modding this car handles fantastically.
