So when will the Chinese start building good, fun cars?

And when will they be on sale in the west?
>>
>>14425917
never. china doesn't know or care about making fun driving cars, and it's all about status for them these days.
also they don't really have the roads
>>
Chinese are all about either practicality or for the more wealthy its a bit of a thing having something expensive. You can pretty much guarantee that something like a Bentley or high end Merc would always be more highly regarded than anything the same they made locally. Even if the local product was a better car, same price or lower and all it'd still be considered lower on the social hierarchy.
They're fairly much yellow niggers.
>>
>>14425924
>they don't really have the roads

huh?

>>14425937
The Chinese are kind of in the spot 1950s Japan was in as far as car industry goes. Most of their cars are built solely for practicality, and there's some small peeks that a few brands are experimenting with the cars, making some that are slightly fun to drive.

I think in 20 years you might see a more well defined Chinese Sports Car market, and maybe it will even have the following Japan once had.
>>
Chinese don't care about actual sports cars. Only status symbols. I've heard multiple Chinese look at the Lotus Elise and then complain how "a car of this price range" shouldn't have plastic interiors.

THEY DON'T REALLY HAVE THE ROADS

Shit they can't hardly have a day without brown outs and most of the country doesn't even have electricity. Where did people get the idea China was a fully developed country?
>>
I'm more interested in the cars global brands are building just for the Chinese market.

This is a fucking Dodge Dart. We'll never see this in America because FCA just decided that they're only going to build SUVs. Cucks.
>>
>>14425917
>never. china doesn't know or care about making fun driving cars
Same could be said about Korea. Up until now every "sports car" hey have released has been uninspired. With shitty handling.
It's something they haven't been able to get right yet. Hoping they are able to get it right in time for Kia's 3 series competitor.

They've been saying they'll surpass the west since the late 80s. If you look at the rest of their products, itll probably never happen soon.
>>
>>14425970
>I've heard multiple Chinese look at the Lotus Elise and then complain how "a car of this price range" shouldn't have plastic interiors.

So basically they're becoming european in their attitude towards cars?

>european sees corvette
>"why does a car of this price range have an interior like this? its too expensive"
>>
>>14426043
I've actually had that happen to my vette. By a chink who was too afraid to drive their base 7 series, as they were afraid of "devaluing" it
>>
>>14425954
>The Chinese are kind of in the spot 1950s Japan was in as far as car industry goes.
I was sort of thinking they're a little around where the Koreans where back in the 90's in a lot of ways, mostly because JP had to drag their arses out of the devastation of WW2 and that did sort of have a bit of a bearing on their materials, construction and other various weirdness.

>huh?
it's not like western countries where even small country roads are tar.
99% either it's a highway or dirt.
>>
>>14425994
>>14426137
Thats actually a bit of a surprise, considering China builds roads for other countries and many Chinese already have access to stuff like smartphones.

Plus, I see a lot about how China has the world's largest highway system, so it would be reasonable to think that they've at least built quite a few country roads or mountain passes.

Like I said though, give it maybe a decade or two and there will probably be some fun cars coming out of China.
>>
>>14425917
Who gives an honest fuck?
>>
Chinese companies blatantly spy copy, and reproduce with shitty quality standards, most of their cars, and have no laws or reason to do anything other than those things, why would you ever expect them to do otherwise?
>>
>>
99.999% of car parts originate from china/taiwan

They can build better cars but dont feel the need
>>
>>14425954
Except postwar Japan was crazy, China lacks the insanity to produce something that may be junk but is so out there people want it.

China will start making sporty cars when there is a military use for them. Otherwise, no.

Japan was doing sports cars since the 50s. Plus all of the Chinese manufacturers are government owned and only appoint people who are of the party.

Not people who can innovate or have any passion for cars.

Dailyfail, I know, but this is the first article that came up.

Ultimately, I think it would come down to price. If you could buy a Chinky sports car for $10,000 that will blow the doors off more expensive cars, why wouldn't you buy it?

I don't give a fuck about brand names.

What's the motorsport scene like?
>>

unless you're way out in some africa tier poverty town. China has decent roads. They tend to ignore infrastructure in poorer areas. I'm in the richest city in the country and some parts I walked through earlier today look like a fucking warzone.

The highways are very, very good. So are the mountain roads. They just have speed cameras everywhere that kill the fun.
>>
>>14432435
Since the 30s*

>>14432449
It exists but it's nothing really inspirational.
Everyone takes everything to a shop where they drop loads of money on a 700hp LSx powered Silvia drift car or some track day VW Polo, Swift, Lancer etc. You don't see or hear of people building track cars in the garage or some ingenious homebrew build like in other countries. They just throw money at everything.

I'd say offroading in china is alot more diverse and you see people build their own projects.

What carmakers are considered good in China?

Luxgen is the only one I would say is comparable to your average western car. Mostly because it's a Taiwanese company.

BYD is okay. Overall they've been improving but no one really buys Chinese cars around here

Is there a possibility that someone outside the government-controlled manufacturers could open a small supercar firm or coachbuilder like the group in Dubai did? Or is the whole industry under strict regulations?
>>
>>14432482
I'm in Shanghai. Every second car is at minimum a VW/Skoda or Audi. Porsches and Range rovers everywhere. Only poor people have chinese cars. You'll see alot of them out in other lower tier cities but not much here.

Even the chick who I was taking chinese lessons from had a new turbo Chevy Malibu
>>
>>14432482
Chinese cars have a really shitty reputation even in China itself. The foreign cars, especially stuff from Germany, is considered far more reliable and desirable because it won't fall to pieces after 2-3 years and is actually comfortable to drive. Even GM cars like Buick have a better image in China for their higher quality over the domestic stuff from bigger groups like Great Wall.
>>
>>14432486
If someone with the money and connection decides to anything possible.
Emissions is the only real strict regulation. In fact i'd say regulations affect the foreign car companies a lot more than chinese ones

Everyone in China and everyone in Taiwan agree that they're a single country. The only disagreement is over whose government is in control of the whole thing.
