And how long did it take to get it?

>tfw had to pay ~€1800 even with average practice drives and passing the test on the first run
>>
>>14421423
$15 for a learners for six months, and $15 dollars for the license. No fee paper and practical test.
>>
I don't even remember, did I even have to pay?
I took the permit test, sat on it for about 6 months. Then got my Driver's License by going up to the DMV and taking it there.

I'm sure I'm overpaying for insurance, compared to a european. Maybe not so much since my car is a 5.4L, but. You know. Yeah, probably didn't pay anything.
>>
20$ for my learners, 100$ for a 5 year subscription to a drivers licence
>>
1000€, my courses ended up spread out a bit across a couple of months and I had to retake the test.
>>
>>14421448

where?
>>

Germany the better part of a decade ago, I think it's 7 years now.

Like $25 for the test, another $20 for the license. All at 16.
>>

Holy fuck, that was a fucking Schnäppsche.
Or was it somewhere in the Bavarian no-where? I heard it's quite cheap there.

It was free through school.

I did have to pay a $40 registration fee though.
>>
$32 for the license. It's good for eight years.

I think in NY it was 35 for the learners, 20 for a safety class and the test was free. When I renewed my license I got the "enhanced" license to go between America and Canada for 70$
>>
$700 dollar bribe
>>
I payed around $40 for mine. Having lived in Germany and knowing how expensive and hard it is to get a license there, I felt happy until I started driving here.

Nobody fucking knows how to drive here, honestly the government should mandate classes. It's made worse by the fact that American roads are much wider and easier to navigate, there's no excuse for this.

I've met a few decent drivers, but it's far from regular.
>>
>>14422563
I always thought eurofags getting assraped in license fees was a joke.
>>
>>14423898
It's real alright. Lots of driving lessons involved, which is where most of the cost comes from.
>>
I think 200 for the class I took at 15, got my license for 35 dollars almost exactly 6 months later

Europeans really hate themselves. All vehicles are 1.5% times more expensive, gas is more expensive, licenses and insurance is more expensive and you're importing in millions of muslims. It's like the goal of Europe is to ride the bus with sand people.

Paid Nothing.

Passed the written test and driver's test same day.

Both were easy considering that they give a license to anyone in hamburger land.

Drove a 2006 Infinity G35 Sedan for my license.

Missed one point because I didn't signal to go around a parked car in a suburban area(who actually does this)

Watched some dumb blonde attempt to parallel park for ten minutes straight while nearly bashing the guard pole behind her.

They still passed her anyhow.

This, then you have like 300€ to buy and upkeep a car unless you drive your parents car, oh wait you move away to study... Realistically as a normal student you can own a car at like 25yo. Earlier is for blue collar workers who just work from teens. And it's tradition that every 18yo goes to driving school though him/her may not even drive his own car but like until 25yo and finished with school. That money could be spent better.

Driving schools are a fucking cartel.

And don't even get me started about the almost 50% car tax (every option like air conditioning, etc you buy is also taxed separately) and fuel prices...

It's not a fee, it's payment for schooling. Because in Europe getting a license is actually connected to learning to drive, not just to turning 16.

>>14428730
Are you scared that someone without German skills or any working experience in Germany might take your job away? Then you should maybe think about whether you're the right person for that job in the first place. What crap have you gotten into because of immigrants?

Also this: >>14428800
>>
>>14428801
Perhaps I was unclear.
At least 2000€ gives me lessons in theory and practice, and thus less idiots on the road. But it's expensive as fuck, because driving schools behave like cartels here when it comes to pricing, not to mention bullshit bureaucratic charges like paying 50€ for the actual license card.

This means there's no 16 year old kids texting behind the wheel of an automatic. Yes, skill should be the deciding factor, but I can't understand why you're proud of letting hazardous people drive. There's pros and cons to this shit. Our con is cost, yours is over easy license acquiring.

>>14428843
Don't know why you're assuming I've never been or are going to be there.
>>
>>14421423
Original drivers license application in california is $45, at which point they give you 1 year to complete the written test and the driving test.
Both tests let you retake it 3 times, but the driving test forces you to wait a few weeks between retrys, and they're all by appointment.
You don't have to make appointments to take the written test tho.
I hear they do it on an automated kiosk now.

In New York, the fee varies by age. It's as much as $90 for a sixteen year old to get a permit (non-truck/motorcycle) but those 21 or older pay $73-$77.
Then you have to take either driver's ed (hundreds of dollars) or a five hour pre-licensing course before getting your license (about $50).

Then you apply for a drivers license. This costs $10, and includes two road tests. If you fail more than twice, you have to pay $10 for another two road tests (again, non-commercial drivers license).

If you do all that, you'll get a driver's license that is valid either until your twenty first birthday, or eight years after the date of issue. New York gives you a super shitty interim license that's a piece of barcode with typewriter style letters and a barcode on it until your real one comes in the mail with photos, holograms, yaddayadda.

tl;dr the cost for me was $90 for my learner's permit, $50 for a pre-licensing course, and $10 to apply for a driver's license = $150 USD. Insurance costs far far more (think $3K for a sedan for six months at age sixteen in new york).
>>
>>14435255 here
Oh, and new york is just generally shitty on auto insurance rates. Not as bad as parts of canada from what I hear, but still shitty.

I pay $600/mo as a single unmarried white guy who is 25 years old, no accidents, no traffic violations, with $1,000 deductibles on a newer non-luxury non-sport sedan.
>>
>>14435264
>$600/mo
Meant $600/6 months ($100/mo).
Apparently new york makes it super easy to claim whiplash after an accident and sue for $50k-$150K, which leads to insurers making ridiculous rates for liability. Liability is 85% of my premium.
Sage to avoid a triple bump.
>>
>>14423641
>I think in NY it was 35 for the learners, 20 for a safety class and the test was free.
How long ago was that? It's a hundred bucks just for the learner's test now.

Fuck Jew York.
>>
Driving ED was given free in Highschool. Passed my permit test on the first try. Couldn't have been more than $20. In my state you need to take a 7 day, 2 hours per day course where you drive on public roads. $200
>Only went one day because muh experience
