Is that window wing on the NSX made for any other car?
Have other cars ever used it? i dont think iv ever seen it on another car. what is it? or is it a air vent for the engine
Sorry not familiar with it /o/
>>14419224
Air intake for the engine, you see them on some MR2s as well.
Tall airboxes were pretty common on racing cars in the 70's
>>14419247
doesnt look like it would be an air intake, it doesnt lead anywhere if you look closely
>>14419468
it's functional on the race car
>>14419468
It is a air intake and it does lead through to the top of the ITB's.
>>14419520
I'm pretty sure it's functional on the the street car as well even though there is no direct tubing. Pic related appears to be a modified NSX with its mesh engine cover taken off and an after market snorkel applied but the NSX-R GT works the same.
>>14419224
x19 has them as well
>>14419224
>Have other cars ever used it?
A few...
>>14419547
and the europa
>>14419549
>>14419554
I think he was implying road cars
>>14419554
the horizontal box is where the dual barrel carburettors sit
>>14419468
>>14419538
it was never functional.
that car only existed to homologate parts for the superGT car which were completely different mechanically
>>14419564
road legal cars that seem to come with them
Saleen S7
McLaren f1
Bugatti Veyron
Lamborghini Diablo GT-R
Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR
I never liked that intake, it looks like it belongs on a submarine. I thought it was even stupider when I found out it wasn't even functional on the road car
>>14419564
It has plates, registration, and insurance; it's road legal.
>>14419527
I don't think the NSX had ITBs.
'Course, I never owned an NSX or worked on one, so what do I know?
You can them aftermarket in two different styles for Fieros.

This. Back in the day half the Fieros you'd see would have these but I guess all those Fieros got wrecked by now.
Get on my level. Shark fins on the top.
Rear diffuser down below.
>>14420036
According to my calculations, these are use to cut the air like cheese there fore the flatulence boosts the car along.
Get it? Cut the cheese?
The McLaren F1 scoop is the best looking.
In standard form on the road car it does nothing, but it's not hard to modify shit.

>forgetting file
Fuck, I've become a normie
>window wing
I believe OP just coined a new automotive term.
>>14419224
>>14421589
Veyron has two, because as this car has proven many times, more=better
>>14420850
what
>>14421607
They're recessed on the SS version, I believe this style of intake is called a NACA duct? But not entirely sure.
>>14421605
Someone probably called this a window wing once before.
>>14421623
those type of intakes are the ones used on aircraft because they can let air in without disturbing the flow of air around the rest of the body relative to a flat surface with no duct.
though I'm fairly sure it makes essentially no difference until you start approaching mach speeds. I think the F40 had them too, but it's mostly just for looks.
>>14421671
It's not just for looks, NACA ducts actually stop working approaching mach, they excel at low speed air control with minimum drag.
The only challenge with them is position them correctly in relation to other airflow so they don't end up becoming low pressure zones themselves. The yellowbird suffered from this problem, they actually sucked air out of the engine bay rather than sending it through.
Hence why on later cars they removed it before customers called bullshit, and eventually resorted to putting on fake ones for the look.
>>14421607
More is indeed better.
Which is why the veyron gets absolutely destroyed by an agera with half the cylinders, half the turbos, half the driven wheels and half the fuel consumption (kek)
>>14421748
>agera
I agree, I was trying to be sarcastic but I realize that doesn't translate well over the interwebs.
I've visited the Koenigsegg factory actually, used to live like 30 min drive away from it. Awesome to see it in person, pictures don't do it justice.
This was a couple of years ago before /drive and before the One:1 and the Regera so they weren't as well known, they probably get flooded with phonecalls from neckbeards who just want to touch carbon fiber once in their life these days. But when I called they were happy for me to swing by and take a tour.
TL;DR I agree, Koenigsegg>Bugatti
>tfw you'll never have an Agera in green tinted carbon

>>14421290
>noone mentioning the Ford RS200
:(
>>14419247
>MR2
Yup, though were they for air intake for the engine or for cooling the intercooler?
>>14421833
I puke every time I see F50. Good lord what was Ferrari thinking, every 8yo wet dream.
>>14422060
Air intake if they're on that side, intercooler is over on the right generally.
Doing an SW20 properly means water-to-air intercooler anyway so you can just throw it wherever, cool intake air is pretty important especially in such a small+cramped bay.
>>14422080
Thanks for the info MR-Doc!
>>14421610
No one ever understands
>>14420029
Fieros tend to wreck themselves, too.
>>14419554
Louts Elite hardone.
Seriously though, I have a hate-love relationship with these things.
>>14421971
A car no one has seen in real life on the road and no one even owns.
Yeah fuck anything this car has.
>>14419224
doesn't this ruin the purpose of being aerodynamically efficient? I mean sure it would grab more air than usual, but at the cost of wind resistance? Even if its by a little?
>>14421589
The roadster , 10/10
>>14424004
An engine creates vacuum pressure, lessening the force of the wind by giving it a place to go.
so not so bad, plus 300hp lol
>>14424074
Alright, anon. It makes a little more sense when you explain it. Thanks, mate.
>>14420036
"diffuser"
>>14422748
They actually are much less to snap oversteer than the MR2. That's counting both 88s and pre 88s.
>>14420029
>wrecked
and burned
>>14422060
air intake, but most of the people with them don't have the part that actually connects to the intake manifold, so it's just fucking up the aerodynamics and cooling (the air is supposed to flow in through the side vents and out through the vents on the engine cover)
>>14420036
>Shark fins
They're called vortex generators.
