Yes.

first gen tacomas
early nissan frontiers and hardbodys

A truck should be a tool, not a fashion statement. Therefore a new one is dumb because you'll beat it up.

While Ford is shitting down everyone's throat with EcoBoost bullshit, Chevy is meeting fuel economy standards without drastic changes.

Adding an airdam that increases MPG to make the Feds happy, but everyone can remove.
Adding AFM on the 5.3L V8 that again makes the Feds happy, but can be turned off by a tuner.

As far as 2016 trucks go that aren't huge, I'd go with the new Tacoma. Not overly fond of the front end, but otherwise it appears to be a solid truck.

I don't mind the new Colorado, but there is something about the shape of it that rubs me wrong whenever I see one. I think it's the back of the cab.

If you actually go off-road, it's useful to remove it.

Who gives a shit about gas mileage? A Colorado is a truck, it's going to get shitty gas mileage regardless.

People buy a Colorado for the size not the MPG. If you want MPG, buy a DD.

You cannot be serious. First off, every truck was new at some point. Second, just because you don't think new trucks are 'real' trucks, that doesn't mean everyone who buys one does. I have no doubts there will be plenty of offroading with new trucks. Hell, Toyota is pushing the offroad capability of their new Taco pretty heavily.

My uncle had a Dakota. Very dependable truck. And I'm a bit jelly of it being a smaller truck offered with a V8.

>6 cylinder diesel

Wat
>>
>>14317815
That thing seriously contributes to fuel economy?!
>>
>>14317994

Supposedly. The idea is that it redirects air below the underbody of the truck, where there are a lot of parts that aren't smooth and therefore restrict the airflow and thus the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Seems like some negligible bs to me, but it must work if it's satisfying CAFE or whoever needs to be satisfied.
>>
>>14318004
What is CAFE? What does it stand for?
>>
>>14317865
No, only the gas colorado gets bad mileage.
>>
>>14318010
Corporate Average Fuel Economy

Basically each manufacturer has to maintain a certain average mpg across their fleet.
>>
>>14317815
turning up the boost on my ecoboost made me pretty happy. can you do that with a stock 5.3?
>>
>>14318019
The diesel may get better mileage, but it will take about ten years to break even.

>$3,730 option
>Diesel is more expensive in 80% of the US
>DEF
>More expensive oil changes
>>
>>14318010
US fuel economy standards that say automakers have to have a fuel economy average of 54.5 MPG across their vehicle lineup by 2025.

Which is an extreme value that they can't meet as the average is about 20.

That's why vehicles are getting wider and longer. They have to adhere to less stringent requirements. That's why there is no regular cab midsized truck anymore.

>>14317994
Auto manufacturers are stretching every single percent of fuel economy. That's why most cars no longer have even a donut, but a tire inflation kit. That air dam helps with about +1 MPG.

I don't know what shitty part of the usa you live in. But where I live diesel is cheaper then premium. By the way you only have to add def every 7500 miles.
And if you worry about the cost of a oil change you should ride a bicycle.
So what about the diesel upgrade price. Most people keep their trucks for a while.

I'll never understand the obsession car fags who've never owned trucks have with hating on crew cabs. I've DD'd a regular cab Tacoma for 8 years and let me tell you it gets fucking old. With a crew cab duramax I was able to haul 5 people with their luggage, and a trailer with our race car, tools, parts, etc. You're never going to do that with a reg. cab.
>>
>>14318425
This is false.
Premium fuel has additives that keep the gas from going bad when stored. If you live anywhere seasonal, and you store small engine powered machines you should be running premium. A representative for Stihl showed me a carb stored empty for 3 months versus one that was kept full with premium. The dry carb had several problems from sitting dry all that time, the other was completely fine.

5mpg saved at 15MPG is a whole lot more fuel saved compared to going from 25-30 say. Thanks to the non linear scale of MPG you don't realise how the number you spew compares to actual economy.

While I can't honestly say I don't relate to this feeling, you gotta let it go when it comes to new vehicles. If a vehicle is good, it's good. Also, just remember that so many fucking people who buy any new vehicle will destroy it within a relatively short amount of time. Even classic cars that were best sellers at the time are now uncommon or rare. Taking it care of it so you have it in 30, 40+ years is how you get the best kind of hipster cred.
