Didn't see a thread, but what does /o/ think of the Focus RS?

It seems to be getting rave reviews. I'm considering buying one. While buying new isn't the best idea it seems like production will be limited which should help it maintain value over the years.
>>
I'm hyped for it but I'm going to wait a bit to see how its reliability looks like. The AWD system seems pretty complex

40k for a focus is ridiculous. Why not buy an alpha camaro?

Why not buy 2 base focuses and spend the 6 thousand you have left over for a pizza party
>>

Does a base Focus have 350hp and AWD with a drift mode?
Didn't think so.
>>
isn't the first batch totally sold out by now?
>>
>$35,000 MSRP

You can buy a good used Corvette for that. Or a new base Focus plus a used Miata plus a used Firebird V8.

35k? i thought it started at 42, for what all you get 35k is pretty damn good

Ford fucking nailed it again.
>>
>>14312709

I'll admit they've been doing well so far, the GT350/R engine is fucking nuts and incredible sounding for a factory engine. The ST's are nice, but otherwise I don't think they've been doing well. Their fodder cars are all kinda... eh in most respects.
Except the TTv6, that's cool as fuck.
>>
>>14312681
35k british pounds, 42k US Dollars.

The shills may be right... Ford is GITTING GUD
>>
>>14312396
The RS is nice but its price puts it in a very competitive place for sports cars and most those people aren't like for a hot hatch.

It starts at what.. 35k? Then it's so incredibly limited in its first year that it's getting +10 attached to it right out the gate and then you have to factor in all of the extras you'll want and you're looking at 60k or more once taxes and shit is all done and said.

Great car, but not when you compare it to what you can get for that dosh.
>>
>>14312746

The 2016 Ford Focus RS starts at $35,730, which puts it just above the Subaru WRX STI in price, but right in line with the Volkswagen Golf R. (Availability in the UK and Australia hasn't yet been revealed, but the US price works out to £23,484 and AU$50,247.) Expect to see it in dealers in the spring of next year.
>>
>>14312759
Woah no shit, I'm happy to be wrong. Fuck the STI's in comparison. It'll break as soon as you bolt on your "sik turbo off valve bruh" you bought with the difference.
>>
I just can't get over paying 40 grand for a Focus. That money would buy you a new FRS and a used SUV/pickup.
>>

>>
I can understand how they reached that price point if you look at the price of the Focus ST - but for that much money you could get an M3.

Sure an M3 doesn't have drift mode, but I would imagine both are expensive to run and maintain.

The Focus RS is the only true competition against the Civic Type R.
>>
Dealer markup plus options will put easily put it past 45 thousand american dollaridoos, which would be much better spent on an actual performance car, rather than a 350 hp Haldex mememachine.

Saying it's better than the current STi isn't really saying much, considering the Subaru was obsolete eight years ago and has a revamp in the works.

Let the mouth breathers from Jalopnik have the Focus RS, because for that kind of money you really should be looking at Caymans and M2/3s and Corvettes and IS350 F-Sports, not a fucking Focus.

It's nothing more than a decent halo vehicle shat out by Ford in small quantities so idiots in base model Focuses and Fiestas can pretend their cars have some performance heritage.

a m2/3 is likely going to be ridiculously marked up too, and a fucking is350?

seriously dude? not even in fucking comparison.
>>
>>14312565
I did this and don't regret it. RS is cool but they're hard to find under 40k and even if you do you're reminded by the interior you're driving a 40k econobox with some soft touch and silver accents.
>>
>>14313426

You're right, an IS350 would actually be a good daily driver, unlike a shitcan Focus. And Ford has stated that their AWD system has an electronic center differential that sends power reactively when the computers think you will need it, or when it detects slip. That's Haldex, bud. A spade is a spade is a spade.
>>
>>14312756
Are you high, no dealer is marking it up by 10k, and with maxed options it just breaks 40k. In my state with tax and even a 5k markup you couldn't event get it to 50k.
>>
>>14314904
No it isn't Haldex, Haldex is a company that makes AWD systems like the one in the Bugatti.
This is one made by Twinstar like in the Evoque.
>>
>>14312746
It's $35,730 on the US Ford website.
>>
>>14312396
You're gonna need to shill harder than that to convince me to pay 40k for what is essentially a glorified econobox.
>>
>>14312966

Flaccid response, triggered.

>>
>>14315262
Plenty of people pay 30k for a S13... your compliance isn't necessary.
>>
>>14315282
Jesus, the fact that it doesn't use Haldex is one of the things every article states. It uses a Twinstar system.

They've gone overboard with this euro hot hatch thing
>>
>>14315310
But does it behave like a Haldex? Once you have driven a mechanical center like a Torsen there is no going back.
>>
>>14315347
exactly. Eurocucks eat that shit up but here in merica we have reasonably priced V8s
>>
>>14315357
One don't you try reading one or two of the road tests and figure it out. While I bet its good I doubt its up to par with the AWD on a Evo or a STI, but that doesn't mean the rest of it doesn't make up for the fact.
>>
>>14315359
> reasonably priced V8s

>>14312879
Yeah, and the M3 would be ten years old.

Seriously, comparing used cars to new is ridiculous, and somebody has to buy cars new for there to be used cars in the first place. A brand new M3 costs 70k+ now, and that's for one that's not very well equipped. (My friend's loaded one was 97k OTD.)

That's actually a pretty good price for a '12 with only 36k on it.

The RS is 35k though, and it's worth pointing out that financing is much harder to get and much more expensive on a used car than a new one, especially a high-risk car like an M3. If the same guy with decent credit and the same down payment finances both cars, the RS is likely to cost around 42k, while the M3 could easily top 55-60k after interest. The M3 is also likely to be much more expensive to insure and has a higher cost of ownership thanks to maintenance and repair costs. (I used to work at an M3 specialty shop, so I know very well what keeping an E92 running takes.)
