I've been looking at a second car, I currently have a dismal 1.6 Vauxhall/Opel Astra. Looking to upgrade to a sub 8 second 0-60 so I had my eye on a 2.0 turbo sport Subaru Impreza but the insuarance is £4k! Does anyone know how to bring insurance down to a reasonable level or any good car suggestions?

Solihull near Birmingham why would you not..?
>>
>>14286892
Oh man those prezza's are sexy.

Fuck the insurance and get it anyway
>>
>>14286911
here in nz most people my age dont even bother.

the cost is too high and drivers here arent completely terrible.

Police check insurance on the regular here with ANPR get pulled over in a week and banned.

>Impreza in the UK

of course insurance is awful, it's associated with bad drivers and boy racers. As a second car they'll charge you through the roof, how old are you? If you are sub-20 don't even bother.

>Birmingham

There's your problem, considering there's loads of paki lads there thinking they're Paul Walker tearing up the streets it shit cars and they like imprezas.

Insurance for decently fast sports cars for me is £400-600 fully comp, sub-6 second stored in garage, 10k miles a year aged 22.
>>
>>14286806
Only thing you can do. Until you get older your insurance is going to be fucking crazy.Whats your budget?

Will be 19

3k max on car then I'd like 2.5-3k on insurance

Good luck friendo

I literally made this the best possible quote you could get at 19 years of age, assuming you got your license the moment you could, you keep it in a safe place (in my home address which is one of the safest in Britain) working one of the best rated jobs with an older father with 25 years plus experience and no claims.

You just aren't going to insure an impreza at 19 as a male in your area for anything short of 4k, sorry but you're literally ticking all the boxes an insurance company doesn't want ticked.

Get another faster car that is less associated with douchebags like a Mazda or a Honda or something.
>>
>>14287281
Thanks for the effort time to go and drown my tears in YouTube Impreza videos
>>
>>14287327
Honestly why get an Impreza, they are nice cars but at your budget you're gonna get a beat up one and pay through your ass for insurance.

Just a hot hatch or something with a 7-8 0-60 and you'll avoid crashing when your balls get to big for your wheels and you'll probably be able to sell it on at a dec price when you're older and get a Subaru then.
>>
>>14287215
I own a 2003 Toyota Celica T sport. I got it roughly when I was your age and the insurance was about £1600 with 2 non fault accidents (most companies will charge extra for non fault shit). It's claimed 0-60 is 7.2 seconds but I'm managing it in about 6.2. Can also be found for less that 2k. Only downside is its FWD. Still a very nice fun car to drive til you're older.
>>
Simple, don't get a Subaru.
>>
>>14286797

Don't get one.

Asscociation alone is enough for insurers to overcharge you, the police to harass you, and for people trying to initiate races with you - which in turn, gives the police even more of a reason to harass you.

In a few years, look into one - and make sure you can put it in a garage (that brings prices down). A few years NCB do you justice too.
>>
>>14287056
It's cheaper to insure a 92 r32 gtr than a 2002 wrx wagon here. Full cover rah rah rah.

My 25de skidline was $60 a month for full cover with an at fault under my name.

Mx5 is $41.
>>
>>14287234
This

OP, your time hasnt come for a faster car yet, dont bother stick with your shitbox
>>
>>14286797
Maybe you should look at a Forester STI
Insurance may be cheaper, plus it's 99.9% an STI an you won't look like a chav in it
>>
>>14290089
>and make sure you can put it in a garage (that brings prices down).
This is usually false. Me, and many others have found that declaring your car on the road at home instead of a locked garage is cheaper for insurance. My premium went down £200 when I made this change

24 years old, 05 widetrack DCCD sti. Insurance is about 600quid (European cover, no excess and all mods declared). There's a few really good company's around for scoobys, just gotta ask around the forums and clubs. (Sioc is a good one if you're the type of person who has facebook). I use sky, they're a brokers. Well worth a call. Hope that helps bro

Mk1 or 2 Octavia vRS.

>Cheap
>Under 8 secs
>Dirt cheap insurance because "muh taxi"
>Loads of modding potential for the 2.0 TSI and 1.8 TSI
>Basically a Golf GTi but cheaper and more practical.
>Gold R32 parts neigh on bolt straight on.
>A lot of Porsche parts bolt straight on.
>Doesn't need a remap with every mod.

Great car if you just want something to hoon the fuck out of.
>>
>>14287234
Yeah, this. If you're dead set on changing cars, about the best you'll reasonably be able to do is some sort of warm hatch. Look for Saxo VTRs, Fiesta Zetec S-es and such. You should be able to get a good one for 3k.

If you aren't bothered about how you look, the Sportka could be a good choice - decent handling and feel, and considerably better acceleration than your Astra with low insurance because boy racers don't buy them because they're camp as shit.

Really, though, you should just stick with the Astra till your premiums go down a bit.
>>
>>14290360
Oh, and Jesus Christ, don't get a fucking Impreza Turbo for 3k unless you really know what you're doing. At that price it's almost certainly a high-miler that's been beat to shit from new.
>>
>>14286797
move out of the mudslim shithole that is brum, and look at cars that dont have the image of a faggot associated with them.
had an mx5 1.8 at 19 paying £900
had a bmw 328 at 20 paying £750
paid more for a saxo vtr at 22 it was like £1000 with 3 claims agaisnt me
fully comp is cheaper too
also got all of the cars sub £1000
>>
>>14286797
Will they fuck your shit up if they find you've swapped a WRX engine into a base tier subaru? insurance on non-turbo subarus is a lot lower
>>
>>14290364
3k is alot for a turbo impreza, this is england here not the us
>>
>>14287281
>eight grand
>have to have a black box

UWOTM8. OP needs a sleeper.

Also arent mk1 Impreza's total shitters and will ravage your wallet far more than any insurance company will.

>>14290150
Also this. Cars are getting stolen these days by having the keys stolen from the house, so parking away from your house (so pikeys don't know where the keys are) can lower your quotes
>>
>>14287466
>4
>Celica
>Good
>>
>>14290347

OP do this!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510117719714?page=1&radius=20&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&model=octavia&search-target=usedcars&sort=default&postcode=B29%207HG&make=skoda&price-to=3000&aggregatedTrim=vRS&logcode=p

With the money left over, buy a Miltek exhaust or get a remap or something. Or put it towards insurance.
>>
>>14290378
Just because you can get some horribly modified shitheap for £1500 doesn't mean the cleanish high-milers you can get for £3000 are good. No-one buys these cars to drive them gently.
>>
OP here found a possibilty since I really like the look of the Impreza's 2.0 GX non turbo
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201601059814163?sort=default&keywords=GX%20sport&radius=1500&model=impreza&search-target=usedcars&page=1&make=subaru&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&postcode=b913jt&body-type=saloon&logcode=p

But its not a performance car what so ever can't decide between performance or SUBAROO

A friend at work with a forester suggester trying his car but that came out at 3k insurance.
He also thinks I would be a faggot to have a fake subaru so I dunno have a fake subaru for a bit then get a real shit STI?
>>
>>14290435
Insurance on that is 1.9k Forgot to add
>>
>>14290377
>Will they fuck your shit up if they find you've swapped a WRX engine into a base tier subaru?
if you didn't declare it, yes
>>
>>14290438
That's a lot to pay for what, ultimately, isn't a particularly interesting car.

Seriously, I know it's frustrating that we have to wait so long to get a car that isn't shit. Believe me, I've been there. But we do, that's just the way it goes in this country.
>>
>>14290435
Honestly OP. Unless you up your budget to around 6k buying a Subaru at 19 isn't a smart move.

There are a ton of other cars out there you can buy for now and enjoy in that price range, and when you get a few years NCB then get a Subaru. Seriously. Subaru's and Evos are minefields for young drivers. Because not only are the insurance and prices a chew on, but you have no idea of the real state of the car. You'd need to take a mechanic mate with you to be absolutely certain you're getting a decent Subaru, because of their reputation people seriously seriously give them some thrashing. Yes they can take it, but it takes it's toll and as a buyer you could be walking into an absolute nightmare.

there's some really cheap decent mx5s on driftworks forum. obviously some have seen abuse but still good value usually with some decent mods
