lost my miata in a car accident (not my fault) waiting now for other's party insurance to pay me ( it is totaled). I always wanted a rotary, but thought I am not mature enough/financially able to take good care of rx. Ideally, I would like to get 2nd gen RX-8 or 06-08 RX8 or if I am lucky FC Turbo, do you think less than 10k would be enough for unmolested example?
>>
>>14282950
Yeah that should do it, make sure you save plenty of money because things will break. FCs are old cars, and RX8's have been beaten on my normies.

10k is mosdef enough for a clean rx7, but you gotta watchout for the repair costs. Avoid the rx8 because it's a totally different type of car than the rx7's

Thanks, I know that Renesis is the highest maintenance one, early ones are also somewhat problematic even when maintained propely ( reason why I am avoiding 04-05) but I am ready to take good care of it and be ready for repairs too, although it is more like an alternative because I really want a rx-7 but can't seem to find a turbo fc, let alone a clean example.

if you can't find one on craigslist or used car dealerships, try talking to a rotary mechanic in your area. For better or worse, they'll know who's trying to sell their cars
>>
>>14283053
Renesis Is the highest maintenance na rotary
Far less maintenance than the turbos
>>
>>14283107
I thought earlier 13Bs and REWs were pretty much bulletproof compared to Renesis?
>>
>>14282252
>implying it hasn't been done
New Zealand has a few off the top of my head. I've seen a couple on trademe (NZs craigslist).
>>
>>14282914
sooo based
>>
>>14283135
In comparison, sure. But the 13B's definitely need more maintenance than the average car. The rats nest of vacuum hoses alone is a mechanical nightmare
>>
>>14283207
I understand that and I am totally fine with that

it's not entirely untrue, rotary's are more sensitive than a normal four stroke piston engine

>>
>>14283256
Stop.
>>
>>14282950
If you can deal with having an old car, the 12a engine in the FB is bulletproof as far as rotary engines go. The 12a is rated at 100hp from the factory, but the FB makes up for low power with low weight. Plus, if 10k is your budget, you'll have anywhere from 5k to 8k left over because of how cheap they are.
>>
>>14283296
I don't really want another miata-tier car in term of performance, and really compared to my rip NB8C, SA22 has less power, worse suspension set up, body rigidity e.t.c and it is older
See zero reasons to buy it, I don't care about reliability that much to buy 12a car
>>
>>14283135
older non-turbo rotaries are what you want if you're looking for reliability. The twin-turbo REW is at least partly responsible for the "rotaries need a rebuild after every 40k miles" meme
>>
>>14283341
I never said I am looking for reliability, if so I wouldn't even consider a rotary. All I said is that Renesis is objectively less reliable than other 13Bs, and again I am fine with that.
>>
>>14283359
That is not 100% true, though. Some of the later renesis engines, after mazda got shit figured out, are probably more reliable than the 13B-REW. I may be talking out my ass; I've never owned an RX-8, but the way I understand it from what I've read and heard is that there were specific issues with the first few iterations of the renesis engine that were corrected in later models and probably fixed on most still-running RX-8s. The issues with boost pressure and complexity of the twin-turbo setup on the REW is something that is not really amenable in the same way.
>>
>>14283007
>Avoid the rx8 because it's a totally different type of car than the rx7's
Whether you like it or not, the RX-8 IS a sports car. It just happens to have 2 extra little doors and back seats that can actually seat an adult.

If they were light as my balls the car wouldn't move at all hehe
>>
A renesis regardless of series will easily go over 200k miles with nothing but spark plugs oil changes and non shit ignition coils and cat thrown in the bin.
renesis is very light on maintenance and bullet proof bevause of that

8 gets a bad rep Because of idiot owners, mainly women
and rotary apologists are quick to pin all the bullshit on the renesis instead of attempting to educate the fools talking shit. That isn't cool lads dojt do this
>>
>>14283374
I know that, thats why I mentioned that I would avoid 04-05 RX8s and would really like a second gen RX8 (they improved renesis added third oil injector e.t.c) So I know that later renesises are good, but I though earlier 13Bs were still less high maintenance, idk

Own an fc. Fds look great but are out of my price range atm. Plus an fc with a turbo II hood is very sexy.
>>
>>14283528
They do. Rx7 club is a good place to look for info. Also rotary airplane engine forums. Im gonna do that mod on mine when i get around to doing a baseline check on the omp and vac lines.
>>
>>14283389
Hard to find the post 2008 models for dirt cheap right now. Maybe in a couple years, they have enought hp to be adequate as a sports car which is nice. But NA FCs range from 1k to 5k for something reasonable where im at.

How would yall feel about an fc for 2700, perfect interior and exterior looks ok (couple nicks, but still shines)? Owner said basically nothing has beem replaced which kind of worries me at 180k miles. Feeling like its too high really.
