What is the most *important* car made in the last 10 years? Whether that means setting design trends, predicting the future, advancing technology, etc, what "important" means is up to you.

I elect pic related, because it brought back a genre of cars that went dead for almost a decade, the small, cheap, RWD sports coupe. It also has more manual sales than automatic despite being sold in a country where only <5% of sales are manual, proving that driving enthusiasts are still a viable market.
>>
>>14272067
86 or miata ND, because it showed you can lose weight if you try. Camaro is already following suit.
>>
Tesla Model S or the Nissan Leaf
>>
>>14272079

As much as everyone is going to bitch about this

it's the prius

It popularized a lot of the features we have now, engine/stop starts

multiple engines in car (i.e one elec, one motor)

What we will see in the future of cars was made viable by the success of the Prius

I'd say for a sportscar it would be GT-R.
>>
>>14273902
Why? Because it favors technology over weight?
>>
>>14273945
The GTR was a hell of a step for production cars, really. It brought performance DCTs and performance-tuned AWD to an entirely different price bracket. It's also a car that's incredibly fast but still very confidence-inspiring to drive.

Unfortunately, benchracing fanbois ruined its existence.

Different anon, but I think it's because it so masterfully works with the technology it's given. The gtr's ATTESA I think it is, is in my opinion the greatest awd system made

Both have been posted but yeah, going with the 86/BRZ or the Model S.

The twins showed that car manufacturers can still make 'drivers cars' in the form of fun sports coupes if they try and the Model S is a huge benchmark for EVs.

BRZ or FRS will definitely fulfill that criteria. It's essentially a hardtop, slightly more oversteer-prone Miata.

Pretty polarizing on this board, although maybe it's just shitposting rather than actual distaste. Otherwise, it's pretty widely loved. The only thing most reviewers want out of it is a turbocharged version, since it's a bit underpowered and has a dead spot between 3000-4000 RPM.

They're pretty fun. Get one before they're all crashed or modded into stance garbage/drift missiles/weebmobiles.

I couldn't disagree more about the 86.

If anything, it's proven that its style of car is NOT viable. It came in under performing and over budget, sales have been well below Toyota's hopes, and the majority of owners are not the people who wanted them in the first place. I'm in SoCal, which should be this car's ideal market, and yet I'm not seeing them in the canyons, I'm not seeing them at the track, I'm not seeing many at autocross, but I'm seeing tons of them, totally done up like race cars with widebody and wings and graphics, struggling to make it up driveways and then hard parking at car meets. I also see a lot being driven by young girls.

The real enthusiasts have shunned the car, and it's totally been bought up by non-enthusiasts who think it's cute and by people who use it as a fashion accessory.

It's not an 86 at all, it's the new Celica.

I knew what to expect and its really an enjoyable car. People who ride in it are really impressed. And let's not forget that the supra started as a celica. It's more like an a70 supra than an ae86 in weight, power and silhouette.

Could be, it might be that on the EC where weather is worse more people are willing to choose it over Miatas or S2000s because it has a real roof.

Still, it hasn't sold anywhere near as well as Toyota hoped, and the majority of buyers wouldn't really care if it were FWD. I'm afraid that it sets a bad example that will discourage manufacturers from trying something like it again.

I really don't want to be the contrarian faggot here, but I'd say the most important is the 2016 Viper ACR. In an age of unprecedented technology in sports cars - where the three biggest names on Earth are hybrids - an old school, straight out of Detroit track weapon crushed every record set before it. It proved that the old ways aren't dead yet. It means that there is still a place for what used to be.
>>
>>14274697

As awesome as the Viper is, I think a lot of it comes down to the completely fucking insane tires. 200 treadwear.

By real enthusiast you mean people on /o/? Every review on it, both professional and amateur have said its a fun car to drive. Sales don't mean anything either, just because people rather buy crossovers and pigfat muscle cars doesn't make it a bad car.

Maybe toyota or subraru should actually try to market the car, Lots of normies don't even now they exist.

>>14274228
The real enthusiasts in the market just proved why no car company actually listens to real enthusiasts. Because they'd rather buy X 5 year old sports car used after 50% depreciation from its original MSRP than a new GT86. Why else do you think Honda doesn't waste time on fun cars? Because HRVs/CRVs sell and S2000s don't.

>>14275064
>By real enthusiast you mean people on /o/?

No. I work at a track-oriented performance shop, and because of that I'm at track days almost every weekend. I also go to some of the most popular canyon roads around, and have friends who are big into autocross. FR-Ses are rare at all three, and when I see one at the track it's generally a new owner, doing his first ever trackday, and they don't come back again. (Aside from a few shop or aftermarket manufacturer demo cars that are modded to hell.)

If they're not at the track, the canyons, or dodging cones, I don't know where enthusiasts are taking them. Standing around next to one with a vape while other parking lot denizens complement your fake Rocket Bunny kit doesn't make you an enthusiast in my book.

>>14275197
>The real enthusiasts in the market just proved why no car company actually listens to real enthusiasts.

I actually totally agree, which is why I say that it sets a bad trend, if anything. It's in a bad price bracket for the current economy, the people who can afford one as a second car and would otherwise be interested are wealthy enough to buy a faster, more expensive car, and people who want a brand new car but can only have one car are gravitating to more practical sporty cars like the WRX or the Ford STs.

As much as /o/ likes to argue over the Fiesta ST, I think it's a real sign of the future in the US, and isn't news at all in the UK and Europe. Take a practical, affordable daily driver, and add sportiness, and you end up with something that people will buy, because it's justifiable for them.

That's called a hot hatch and it's been around for a while m8
>>
>>14275498

Hot hatches are pretty much new to the US, the GTI is the only proper one that's ever been successful in the US. (Unless you count the MINI.)

It's a mediocre performance car with "sporty" styling and is mostly bought by teenage girls and 20-something guys who want to look like they drive a sports car but don't actually do anything with it, and a tiny minority of people who actually mod them up and use them for sporting purposes.

The Celica was always a standalone model, it was always a coupe, and it was always more expensive than a Corolla. It always performed better than your average daily driver, but worse than a real sports car. Early Celicas were RWD, too.

The FR-S is pretty much exactly a modern Celica. The tC is just a worthless shitpile that has no performance credibility at all and is a disgrace to the Celica line.

if yurop bankrupts, we just stop buying new stuff for a while and stick with old ones.
if US&A bankrupt, you're fucked cause you haven't even pay for stuff you own now
>>
>>14277175
>you're fucked cause you haven't even pay for stuff you own now
If you buy something on a personal loan there's nothing that can be taken by the bank.
>>
>>14277180
>money that bank gave me is mine cause they gave it to me. They wouldn't give me if they wanted it back, right? I dunno nothin
>>
>>14277192
The money loaned on a personal loan isn't conditional, you can buy whatever you want with it in cash. The bank officially can't take anything back because it doesn't know what you bought. They just wipe out your credit score. Please learn how debt works.

Here's another classic
>China owns America from all the debt lol
No, most of the US debt is owed back to US Citizens in the form of social benefits.
>>
>>14277173
Why don't all americans do it if it's so proffitable?
>>
>>14277180
only if its unsecured and unsecured loans have higher interests rates

>get a car with an unsecured personal loan
>cant pay it because high interests
>has default

congrats

this is why america has AA credit rating instead of AAA
>>
>>14277197
>No, most of the US debt is owed back to US Citizens in the form of social benefits
thats literally irrelevant because the amount of debt china holds is still fucking massive
>>
>>14277202
because
>I DON'T NEED NO $7 A MONTH EXTRA ON THIS CAR
>I'LL NEVER GET INTO AN ACCIDENT
>AMERICAN CARS ALWAYS WORK LOL

I love my country but some people are too blind.

>>14277204
>only if its unsecured and unsecured loans have higher interests rates
true and banks also don;t give you that much.
>wanted $5k personal loan
>here's $3500 fuck you

>>14277207
>fucking massive
Not really. 1.2 trillion isn't even half of all the debt owed to all foreign countries.
>>
>>14275197
The A70 was a decent car for its time and was under appreciated because of its price. It's technology was ahead of its time and is still a popular car. Decent examples with a turbo have been increasing in value while others are a decent choice for amateur driftang.
>>
>>14277215
Also it should be said China owes the US about $750 billion, close to what the US owes China.
People need to stop falling for leftist memes.

China has like $1.2 Trillion in US debt it's not that much considering Japan has nearly a trillion in US debt as well. Brazil and even Hong Kong have US debt in the hundreds of billions

all vipers should come with liability contracts for the drivers that'll crash em

infact make that the standard for all sport cars and maybe we can lose some of these stupid regulations and have fun again
>>
>>14277162
You may want to look at international Debt, per capita, by GDP, by taxable income or time to repay, the USA is far higher than any country in the world bar Japan in all of these stats.

It's the best selling electric car in the US and the only affordable fully electric car on the market (along with its sister the Zoe)
>>
>>14275197
>The real enthusiasts in the market just proved why no car company actually listens to real enthusiasts. Because they'd rather buy X 5 year old sports car used after 50% depreciation from its original MSRP than a new GT86. Why else do you think Honda doesn't waste time on fun cars? Because HRVs/CRVs sell and S2000s don't.

I guess that would make things kinda cyclic: "real enthusiasts" will buy used as much as they can, and firms won't cater to them because of that, until the used market runs dry, and then you get a renaissance of affordable enthusiast cars which will fuel the used market for another 20 years or so. Like how the 90s golden age of nip cars really set in when the well of cheap old muscle and British roadsters was starting to dry up.

Or at least, that would be a neat way of thinking about it. In reality, there's never really been a time when there haven't been at least a few very good, fun cars available new for relatively affordable prices. This one included.
>>
>>14275323
The 86 is still a relatively new car. Wait a couple more years for people to really start racing them.

I've taken mine to the track, but I'm still making payments. I'm not going to modify mine until it's paid off.
>>
>>14274042
I think the frs will be in production long enough to become cheap. Just like the miata.
>>
>>14277045

It didnt really start til '01 ;)
I still think we should go by production not introduction. Since cars can change quite a bit in their lifetimes anyways.

Easily the Tesla Model S, not only because it demonstrated a viable electric-only drivetrain for the first time while outperforming many ICE vehicles, but also because of its groundbreaking capabilities in terms of post-release hardware and software upgrades, Tesla's efforts in creating practical charging technology and Tesla's willingness to operate in the public domain. Yes, it required a lot of public funding, but that doesn't change anything about its innovation.
>>
>>14277397
If what he said was true then no one would buy ANY sports car brand new which is a retarded sentiment
>>
Hopefully they keep making the FRS for the next five years, I'll wait to get one until I move out of the city and buy a truck. I don't wanna settle for some used boy raced beat to shit one.
>>
>>14277443
Paid cash for mine but I'm not going to do anything to impact on the 5 year warrantee as that's a major part of buying a new car.
>>
Prius was the most important of the past 15yrs. Proved that hybrids could be profitable and attractive to the masses.

Tesla is becoming most important by pushing electric tech in cars while still being sexy. If they can make it slightly more affordable to get it to the everyday middle class it is golden. The name recognition gives it the advantage over the leaf.

Everybody's favorite celebs drive Teslas, the Leaf/Volt are good cars but just aren't as desirable or recognizable
>>
Prius

in another 10 years itll be Tesla

no other car even comes close to being "important"

>>14274708
ACR is a dedicated borderline racecar

its not even impressive that it can beat hypercars with luxuries

its just the swan song of some outdated garbage
>>
>>14278160
Got a good head on your shoulders. These are the correct answer.

Additionally the FRS/BRZ is not the "savior" it will be discontinued in the next 6 years and become the new 240sx. The Miata will be fine because Miatas gonna Miat.

Also the new NSX won't have a production run longer than 7 years.

I'm not justifying it however some people need to get off their fat lazy asses and find a job instead of collecting government money.

That's all US foreign debt is: memes.

>>14277357
>the USA is far higher than any country in the world bar Japan in all of these stats.
Yes and? Once again, over half the debt is owed to American citizens.
>>
>>14279450
>Once again, over half the debt is owed to American citizens.

If you include that debt the USA has bigger debts than even Japan. Face the fact your nation is living on money borrowed from stronger economies like China, Spain and Greece.
>>
>>14276924
It's pushing BEV's limits harder than any other car on the market in terms of market share, efficiency, reliability and affordability. Basically it is doing everything Tesla claim to be trying to do, but successfully and without spending 95% of the budget on PR.
>>
>>14279562
>Face the fact your nation is living on money borrowed from stronger economies like China, Spain and Greece.
Actually not really.

>If you include that debt the USA has bigger debts than even Japan.
Still waiting for you to try and figure out why this is or is actually not a problem.
>>
>>14279597
Yes it is a reality, are you a bad troll or very stupid? If the latter I'll explain google to you and you can look up the economic problems of high levels of debt with low GDP growth.

>>

No, you look at a number and think you know what it means. You clearly don't from what you've posted so far.

>If the latter I'll explain google
>muh google
>muh GDP
What you don't understand is that national, not personal, debt is a tool used by literally every country. A country that has a balanced budget is a country that isn't actually working.
Here's a good readup from an actual economist in case you don't get it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/21/opinion/paul-krugman-debt-is-good-for-the-economy.html

Finally, even if we did owe Choina 14 trillion dollars (we don't), they can't call us on it anyway.

Lists economies controlled by the US and bankrupt countries. You forgot to mention Italian economy is stronger tha. The US. That's an important one
>>

Us isn't communist so the US government doesn't control any economy.

Gunna need a citation on that one buddy.
