For those who own or know more on the rally cars, how much of the things said and done here are actually truth?

https://youtu.be/kM1nkR8pkX4?t=1m57s

In the end the Fiesta ST is like a rally car using stock engine and the stock turbo and is capable of at least keep up with an actually rally car.

Stop shilling ur shit tier Ford.

Get a Falcon Cunt.
>>
Entirely depends on the course and the driver.

A MKII Golf won 6th overall in the Canadian Rally Championship 2015.

"an actual rally car" doesn't mean really anything. They would need to specify what class and what modifications each car is using.

There's nothing special about the Fiesta that makes it better than any other FF car.

There are quite a few manufacturers in Canada who will make rally dampers for your application. It will be cheaper if you own a more popular car due to economies of scale.
>>
>>14267011
Just to elaborate some popular North American rally suspensions are Hot Bits, Ohlins, JVAB (for custom applications), Drummond Motor Sport, etc.

Setting aside safety gear a good driver, suspension, gravel tires, and skid plates make a rally car a rally car.
>>
I DD a rally car and pretend I'm the takumi of rally
>>

>>
>>14267011
by popular car I mean popular rally car... like a 1g focus or 1g/2g impreza or fiesta

The biggest issue on your average stage rally is finding a car that will have suspension components, axles, and a differential that will hold up to the wheels spinning quite a bit.

It's certainly harder to be fast with a traditional gearbox versus the sequential dog boxes used in professional rally vehicles.
>>
>>14266971
I don't know much about American rallying, but that rally car sounds like it is in a 'production' class ie it is only allowed very limited performance modifications. It is not unlikely that a road car could almost keep up with a rally car that is kept close to stock by regulations. The biggest difference is going to be durability, the stock fiesta's suspension (dampers and bushes in particular) would not last a whole rally being driven hard.

God damn this feel sucks m8. I initially was set on a cobalt ss, then all these threads about ff being shit and for cucks made me insecure about my tastes. I started watching initial d and then I wanted a 240sx as a touge car. But then the other day I was watching some wrc stuff where a guy was getting hektik in an ff.

I live in California bay area though. There's some nice hills around here, but nowhere to pretend I'm a rally driver. So right now I'm leaning towards a 240sx.

How about you anon?

Those were made by benchracers and no-car bus cucks to begin with. The average shitposter will never notice a difference till he either understeers or oversteers into a tree.

I live in western Washington and have been going to drift events for the past 6 years. I was really hyped to start drifting, then I found out I really didn't fit into the scene. Too expensive, extreme RWD tax, and uber cunts everywhere.

Then I went to the Olympus Rally/Oregon Rallyx and saw hordes of shitboxes ripping asshole on the dirt. There's so many dirt roads up here it's ridiculous.

Everyone I know that rally's is very passionate and actually gives a shit about driving technique. I'm leaning towards building a rally DD and hooning like a mad cunt in the woods yo.
>>
>>14268594
Shouldn't you
>>
>>14266971

I've sat in this exact car. Rallying isn't about high horsepower, it's about getting up to speed and maintaining it. ACP was clearly giving the other driver an easy time keeping up, but even then the principal difference between the two cars is longevity. The rally version is running 46mm+ inverted dampers with extended travel, skid plates under the engine, gas tank, and rear suspension, and more robust wheel hubs/bearings. Lacking these, the street car loses any chance of taking crests at high speed or deeply rutted apexes without risking serious damage.

>>14268352

Sorry to burst your bubble, but FF has long been proven to be the superior 2WD platform for rally.
>>
>>14268648

The thing is, understeer is unavoidable
4 reasons why you can't togue fwd
4 reasons why initial D and Wangan mostly used rwd
4 reasons most super cars and sports cars are rwd

1. FF can't handle HP above 350
2. FF loses traction on acceleration
3 FF can't pull off time saving corner attack techniques like drift
4 FF just doesn't handle well with drive wheels as the turning wheels with an engine on top

I'll probably get a 240sx to hoon for a couple years. I plan on moving out of commiefornia in a few years anyway, I'll see where I'm at then.

I don't think he was talking about really though. But you're right, and that's why I have a dilemma. I'm too poor for a decent used awd car, so it's either fwd our rwd. So I can either go to the touge or to the backroads but not both because no money. If I could find a good lancer evo for 5k I could probably make it into a good on road car and also have it ready for off road.

Fun is subjective. I used to feel that way too, until I rode in the back of a FiST at Team O'Neil and then learned all of the rally driving techniques for FWD. You can't hold as big of slides unless you're on a downhill corner, but I personally can say initiating oversteer with the brakes or deceleration is just as fun as doing it by mashing the gas.
>>
most of these fwd cars are factory backed design spec cars.
no rwd car has that backing, so it's stupid to compare an R2 spec fiesta to some random amateur's old foxbody

The Toyota GT86 CS-R3 is trying to change that in global rallying, but it's proving to be completely noncompetitive except for on tarmac.

Over here in the US, Nameless has an FRS that's been heavily modified to contend 2WD. Again though, it's proving to be hit or miss and seems to only have an edge in the stages with higher top speeds where it can use the 100hp edge it's got over the most powerful FWD competition. The same story could be said for Will Order's old S13 twins that were pushing over 400 at the wheels.
>>
>>14269048
Why can't an ff car just have more power
>>
>>14269060

They could, but it seems most would rather retain the reliability of a mostly stock engine and make up for the power difference with the benefits of the drivetrain. Back in the 90's, the F2 kit-car class was full of featherweight hatches with 270-300hp. Cars like this Ibiza Evo 2 would regularly contend top-10 positions on gravel WRC events such as the Safari rally, and in 1999 a pair of Xsara kit cars scored two 1st's and one second at two consecutive WRC events--beating McRae, Makkinen, Burns, Seinz, etc. in their AWD top-level WRC cars.

However, these were international factory-backed cars that cost probably 80% of what it did to run a pure WRC car, so they were in a class of their own compared to the much cheaper and underfunded cars in question here.

Do you have any clue what you're talking about? WRC today is the fastest and most competitive in terms of driver times that it's ever been. Group B stage records were already being beat by 300hp Group A cars more than 20 years ago.
