for the rear suspension, I want something where I have options, not some one-off weird suspension that was used once and dropped. I don't want to lower it to an unusable level, I just want to make it a bit more sporty
and with the engine, 150kw really isn't much in a big 4-door saloon/wagon. 176kw like in an 850r would be ideal but swapping the engines is more cost and work than i'd like

Personal preference. The 740 is basically a 240 with more straight lines and a few more amenities (like cupholders). It's still a FR brick on wheels with a redblock four-banger in the front and your choice of slushbox or 4/5 speed manual tranny.

Morning Volvbr/o/s!
Picked up a set of like new Blizzak WS60s for $100. Only think is they're 14s and I don't have a set of steelies around. I have one at my parents house but that wont help since we're supposed to get slammed with 6-8" of snow this weekend on the east coast. So I'm going to try and snag a set at the yard this week and hope to have them mounted before the snow hits. Wish me luck!

The 740 was supposed to replace the 240 but it ceased production before the 240. They're virtually the same mechanically.

Same engine but with the distributor mounted at the back of the head; the suspension is also pretty different and the interior is completely different.
The only few things that will swap between the two are wheels, motor/trans, its accessories and the fuel/spark ecu's.
740/940 are pretty much the same, just different body panels.
The 960 was pretty much a facelift of the 940 but with an inline 6 instead.
S90 was a facelift of the 960 and last of the RWD's.

volvos toyotas and hondas have reliability tax where i live, so the same may be true for anon. some casuals sold a '92 "volve" 240 for $1200 on craigslist with a broken odometer that had been broken since the owner before the p/o, and vin check showed multiple electrical problems that it was shopped for (but they never bothered to fix the odo). It was pretty clean on the inside but worth maybe $500 tops. I gave them two days to stew on their bad CL ad and terrible price but when i called they had sold it to some fool and were just too retarded to take the post down.
Lessons:
*casuals will buy anything for any price if they heard it's good
*240s can be driven into the ground just like any other car, it just takes more time and will be less apparent.

240 T5 swap my man; well-documented, cheap and easy to find 850s for cheap in junkyards and on the street, and while it is intensive it's relatively straightforward (except switching sides for the distributor and finding all the necessary parts) and pretty easy for a novice that's properly equipped.
you could just throw a turbo on there tho, i'm sure the aftermarket has some sort of setup for you.

having owned both, (240 NA and 740 Turbo) the 740 is the better car honestly. Nicer interior, easy to find in turbo, fixed most of the small problems the 240 had. The 240 feels more "retro European" and has a solid headliner, other than that its worse in every way.

I never thought about getting used tires before, good call. A little while back I asked you how you plugged the holes that held the rocker trim in place but I lost your response at some point. Does any water get in your doors without the trim there? The only thing keeping me from ripping mine off are fears of even more rusting.
