Can anyone recommend a good timing chain kit for a dual can KA? I've seen various ones ranging from 150-400. Would it be best to piece together my own via oem parts or would a cheaper kit suffice?

I went the OEM route, I ordered at the dealership I work at and the parts counter guy had been there a long time so he knew exactly what I needed which worked out awesome. He knew of all the small shit I didn't think about replacing when you pull the covers off.

Precisely, I don't remember spending northwards of $300 then again it was employee pricing. For regular retail I'm guessing it's going to be just a hair more.

nice

mines looks like shit overall and was thinking of doing this and just rattle canning the whole car

did you remove the rubbers?
>>
>>14254051
Alot of it's in the prep work. If you can take your time to sand a car back and get all the low spots/dents out and stuff it would look to bad.. but then again if you want to spend that much time and effort on it just get yourself a compressor and a spray gun then go for it. I just sanded them back to bare metal, primered them up sprayed them.

Didn't paint the wiper blades haha. Thought about it but I couldn't be bothered sanding them all up only to replace them every year.

I have a similar problem. It leaks in through the hatch and the water gathers inside the seatbelt housing. When I get in the car and start moving it splashes all over the back of the car lol. It didn't stop when I changed my entire hatch, so I guess I need to replace the weather stripping (even though it appears to be fine). Luckily I'm in dry-ass california so I don't have to worry about it for most of the year

It'l likely the bolt where the hatch struts bolt to, water can wick into there and drain into the rear seat belt trim area.

Got the same damn problem on my hatch.

I'm still in school so just a lot porter would be fine for me. I worked at a vw dealership For a while and loved it. Dealer trades were the tits, I loved getting paid to drive across the state in a new golf R and then pick up a wagon. Like it was my whole shift just to go on one trade. As for the car I'll get suspension situated once I do some more maintenance.
>>
>>14256341
Hatch struts? You mean the pressurized struts that hold up the hatch when you lift/open it?That would possibly make sense, I remember having to remove them and one of the rubber washers was completely torn up.

I just bought a digital cluster to replace my normal analog one. now I finally get to sell my nx1600 cluster that I have been too lazy to install
>>
>>14255216
Whiskey, I figured out the problem. The source is from the hatch liftgate struts as some anon pointed out here. The strut is held by a 10-12mm bolt, a flat washer, a split lock washer, and some sort of sticky round rubber gasket washer.

I remember when I was working on my car and had to unbolt it, that rubber gasket just disintegrated. So, during heavy rain and the water falls down through that channel, it gets caught in between the bolt and falls through inside to the seat belt assembly. What a stupid fucking design.
>>
>>14257917
>nx1600 cluster
how much do you want for it?

I've posted it for 100 on local 240 groups but I have 2 people who are interested in buying it and want to see it tonight so hopefully I can get a bidding war going

thanks anons, I'll check that out. I took those shocks/dampers/struts off when I changed my hatch but I never paid any attention to the rubber washers on them

>>
>>14261552
Lol yeah I get it. Its nothing more than a daily right now. I have the manual pedal assembly and some clutch parts but money ran tight during holidays and now my money is in school and rent.
