>constantly browsing listings of cars I'm not even close to affording
>can only realistically afford to finance a boring, sub-$20k econo-box
How do I wasting my time looking at nice cars? I even go through the process of estimating the monthly payment to figure out how much of a down payment I would need to afford it. Anyone else do this weird shit?

You could get something interesting if you bought used.
Just saying.
>browsing listings for classics for hours
>most above my budget
>no garage to put them in the first place
>>14224091
Yeah I know, but I'm more talking about being addicted to looking at things I can't afford. How do I stop?
>always on the lookout for sub-$1000 shitboxes
>already own two shitboxes, one under $1000 one under $10,000
>don't even have a reason to own a car, live within walking distance of work and school
>>14224109
Don't. It can be a nice way to spend time. So long as you're thoughts are more along the lines of "Gee it'd sure be nice to own one of these. Maybe I will one day, if I play my cards right" rather than "ZOMFG I will never own one of these I'm so inadequate", there's no harm in it whatsoever.

I know dat feel OP.

Just stop fantasizing about unrealistic shit. It's a waste of time like you said. Live in reality, you'll be more productive and eventually get where you want.
>look at Japanese, and occasionally European automotive car classifieds online
>know that even if they're old enough to import, they're impossible to register in California due to smog requirements

yet another "california compromise" as i call it. shit sucks for you guys.
here in wisconsin, everything from 1996 and before is exempt, so we're pretty set for the next few years.

I just accept it, especially when I'm directly affected by the air quality.

Here is how you stop browsing cars you can not afford.
>Be me
>Be 25
>Keep looking at cars way out of my league.
>Love of cars is taking me places my finance can't go.
>Eventually get a new job.
>Decide to treat myself.
>Searching car ads.
>Searching cars way out of my league, but convince myself I could afford something nice if I go second hand.
>Completely convinced I can pull this off.
>Then suddenly.
>Porsche 996, 93k on the clock. In budget.
>OHFUCKIGOTTHIS.jpg
>Go to view.
>Break all the rules and buy with my heart not my head.
>Be driving 10 year old Porsche for 6 months. Never been happier.
>Then one day. Engine cuts out.
>wtf
>Drive belt snapped.
>Tensioner destroyed
>Cams sheared.
>Cry
>Take it to garage
>"Well son that'll be around a 10k repair bill job."
>Nope
>Scrap car
>Now driving a Dacia.
>Never browse expensive cars again.
>>14224309
I had a rather similar experience recently, actually, except with a Saxo VTR. As you might expect it was a far less expensive mistake, but not one I'll be making again.
>>14224083
All of the cars I wanted were 30k+ new and I knew that it would be an irresponsible move on my part. I'm currently leasing a 2015 impreza (sub 20k, total of 7200 for 3 years full coverage)
I'm in my first job after college. A better car will come in time, I just try to look the other way when wrx's ride past.

ladies and gents, the foolish willfully ignorant people who gave up once it didn't work out, and will later stop their children from buying "cool" first cars because "its unreliable anonskid i made that mistake and now you wont have to."
future fun killer dads
>>14224083
I personally would never finance a nice car unless I was making at least six figures. Just a bad investment.

Stop projecting

I know this feel.
