What was the best SUV and why don't you believe it's the Land Rover Defender 90?
>>
that is one expensive wrangler you got there and you can get a 19 yr old one for only $40k! what a deal!
>>
>>14219086
>wrangler
Wrangler? You must be a pedestrian.
>>
>not buying the god machine, Isuzu Trooper

It's like you want to try so hard to convince people you have offroad capabilities, you're willing to spend all your money on a status symbol that can't offroad any better than an amc eagle.
>>

>americant's
>>
>>14219208
Everything you say is stupid. Also the best SUV is a Land Cruiser or Pajero.

the only area where the trooper is better is side tilt angle
>>
>>14219282
can't find any info about the entry and departure angles after a minute of googling, so I just youtube'd amc eagle + moab and lo and behold.

ah, you were comparing the trooper to the land rover...but I think you're listing the rodeo, not the trooper.
>>
>>14219326
The Rodeo was sold as an Opel in Europe and that's not a Rodeo

how did the older years fair against this new look? The entry, exit and possibly clearance seem a little lower than the older body style.
>>
>>14219037
If you're talking swb 4x4s then bronco, blazer, g-wagen or landcruiser for me.
>>
>>14219372
both the Rodeo and the Mju where sold as Vauxhall Frontera and Frontera Sport
>>
You guys are not talking about the what really matters. Which are true off-road abilities.

Offroad wise.
Yota 4runner with Solid front axle is pretty good. But a JK with the 3.6L will give you more offroad capability because of the shorter wheel base and angles.
>>
>>14219037
all the ones I see are going for 55000 freedombucks...I could easily buy a decent jeep or isuzu or toyota and have the suspension and lift reworked and still have enough left over to buy 20 corollas.
>>
>>14219780
Lol I was on the phone with my dad and this was replaying over and over again for like 20 minutes in front of my face

Also the Samurai was top tier / best in its class by far dont deny it

From a guy who has driven Land Rovers day in day out for many hears, towing heavy trailers and rigs, and how operates his own company, and buys pick ups in fleet numbers.

Don't waste your money on Land Rover.

They're hideously uncomfortable, on and off road.
While they're easy to fix, they break a lot more than they should, and for a business, that's a huge issue.
They're getting damned expensive for what they are too. Again for a business that's a biggie.

We've ditched the Land Rovers in favour of Mitsubishi L200.
They're cheaper, they're simpler, they last longer (never had an engine problem yet over 8 years and with over 15 vehicles, even though the diesel lump is from VW.) They can carry more, they handle heavy loads better, and they're a lot more comfortable.

I don't mean to say they're the best out there, no. But they're better than Land Rovers. In recent years I have also been looking at getting Ford Rangers, and when the time comes for a new addition. I think I'll get one.

Also, if we go specifically SUV. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Because I'm British and that shit over here is never seen.

Well if you want a factory solid axle 4runner then 1984 get it with the 22R-E. Otherwise you'll have to swap to solid axle which requires a lot of fab. 96-02 with the 3.4L is nice, but the 02-09 4.0 V8 is sweet. Also depends if you like manual or auto trans. If manual the 3.4L w/ its companion manual is a very nice set up and will go the distance along with good aftermarket support for the engine itself e.g. supercharger. After that its all about features which you'd like to go with most.

What about the defective timing chain tensioner on these things? Does he really want the risk of having to change his engine?
>>
>>14220402

I'm partial to 3rd gens (96-02), as I own one. Good mix of reasonable power for daily highway driving, fuel economy (consistent 20 mpg in my v6 auto), comfort, and very serious capability. Factory rear diff lock isn't too hard to find, although a 5spd+ diff lock is rare and expensive when you do find one most of the time.

I've really liked owning mine, the only real downsides are a somewhat cramped front cabin with a legs-forward seating position. The windshield is super close to your head, and the interior is actually quite narrow. Think compact pickup truck cab and you'll get the idea.

If I were doing it all over again, I think I'd get a 2nd gen Montero or Isuzu Trooper, just for the same of doing something different, and for a roomier driving position. That's not to say I regret getting the 'Yota.

The newest 178hp diesels in these aren't very reliable anymore though. Same for its non-pickup version.

Simple as that OP.
And they have less than half a Landcruiser engine.

Like I said we've never had engine problems with them. But we'v had some reservations about future engines, which has made us look at other brand for the first time.

Hence the possible switch to Ford Rangers. VW Amarok is also on the card.
>>

I know it's not really relevant to anything currently going on, but why would an 'army' youtube review use an H3? I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the military uses a different setup (though I'm not sure if it would have handled better or worse) and I was genuinely curious as to how it would stack up.
>>
>>14223559
Who cares?
>>14223541
The 4N15 is better, though.
