AWD will give you more control but it requires more speed/power. RWD can get sideways fairly easily but you can't get away with quite as much.

They're just different.
If you try to skid an AWD like a RWD you'll lose it and "spin".
If you try to skid a RWD like an AWD you'll spin or go wide.
