Got a new DD and my 02 Catfish SS 6-speed is getting retired to track. Already has Kooks longtube headers, free mods, LS6 intake came stock 01-02.... Cam, springs, pushrods kit will get me to 450HP, but I really want 500HP NA. Will ported heads get me there?
If I was gonna do forced induction I would do it on a junkyard 5.3, so no supercharger or turbo suggestions please.

When people say "cam only" do they mean literally only the cam, or do they mean a full kit with springs and pushrods? I've heard stock springs aren't strong/stiff enough and stock rods will bend.

Depends, a milder cam should work with the stock springs and rockers. The more aggressive you go the more shit you need to change.
