Cool looking cars but they are pretty shitty. There is a reason you don't see them anymore. The G60 supercharger is fucking terrible and will need new seals or replaced for sure. VR6 is a much better choice but makes the car very imbalanced. Even with the four banger this thing lifts its back tire on turns. Probably not a good car choice for someone poor like you.

They're universally regarded as one of the most problematic "modern" cars besides the BMW 8-series. Electrical gremlins are everywhere - forget about using the sunroof, windows, or power locks. Or heater. The transmissions are noisy and the reverse gear has grinding and popout issues. Coolant leaks, valve cover leaks, 02 and EGR issues... In no way would I count on one as a daily. Probably not even a weekend car. Dig around on GRM, Jalopnik, TTAC, Hemmings, etc and you'll hear horror stories about these.
About 5-8 years ago, these were all over /o/. They are still considered one of the best handling FWD cars, ever, plus a decent aftermarket and yes that VR6. But one by one people abandoned them because the repair costs and frequency were just too high.
Also, the most expensive Porsche is a cheap Porsche. And a Prelude Si is in no way "settling." They're great cars.

944's are a 5K car, you either buy one that is in good working order with receipts and all that jazz for 5K or you spend the difference fixing it.
You can mitigate a lot of the issues by buying high quality parts, for example, My last 3 timing belts were done with Kevlar Belts, They last a little under double the stock belts and don't snap. The Clutches are retardedly expensive, not much you can do about that.
They are fun cars don't get me wrong, just buyer beware.
The money would be better spent on a Miata + Hardtop. As someone said before, yes the 944 needs autism levels of maintenance if you do it yourself, it comes with the cars being old.
